GTA V on next-gen. Opinions?

Featured Replies

So last night I picked up my copy of GTA V for my Xbox One. First thoughts, there is nothing different than the first release. However, after I completed the first mission and was able to free-roam a bit, that changed. There is a great amount of new content added; all of the DLC cars for online are now available to steal in singleplayer; there is much more traffic than before, which makes it harder to do 1,000,000 mph everywhere (lol); the police lights...they are actually red and blue now! They look amazing as well; and I saw another thread here that said the different cars have different siren, but I haven't tried to find out yet. I love that your GTA:O character can carry over too. The graphics are a tad bit better than before, but I can't see a noticeable difference. Also, if you're a member of the RGSC, there are some cool perks like hidden cars and a few other things as well. I haven't gotten to explore the wilderness very much yet, so I'm not a hundred percent sure about the added wildlife. The first-person view is really cool too; if you're wearing any type of mask or glasses, you can tell, especially the glasses as there is some tint on the screen. It does take some getting used to though.

With that said, I am kinda bummed that your story mode data didn't transfer over. But I understand that it is because that data is stored on your hard drive. I don't really want to replay the story mode all over again, but I will do it if I have to.

All in all I'd say that R* did a great job in bringing GTA V to the next-gen consoles, and I hope this bodes well for the eventual port to PC.

What are your opinions of GTA V on the next-gens? Do you like it? Or hate it? Leave your thoughts below!!

Invenio, Investigatio, Imperium

I haven't played it yet because I'm waiting for the PC release. But from the little snippets I've seen it looks good.

I think (if I'm not mistaken by his mass of tweets) NerdCubed is doing a livestream of the PS4 version soon on twitch, so I'll be watching that to see what it's like.

For anyone who is disappointed, try to remember this is not GTA VI (6) exclusive to next-gen and PC, it's no good sitting there expecting a brand new super-ultra high definition mega realistic game because you're obviously going to be let down when you play it then. Rockstar are re-releasing a 2 month old game on next-gen and PC and adding some extra things for us to play with. People expect too much these days.

the only reason im gonna get GTA V for PC is for first person mode and besides im getting a gamepad for the jets so it will be easier to fly.

i played it on ps4 and it looks amazing definitely big upgrade from the old consoles. First person mode I really like even though for some people it may feel weird and increased traffic and peds which is noticeably a bit better, but rockstar can't say enough for the police cars since they seemed to removed the computer and replaced it with some radio. I know people here waiting for pc but hopefully its runable on most pcs but of course we don't know the specs yet anyways thats my opinion on the next gen.

So this is something i heard very early on at the original release last year.  There are no free-roaming AI police.  They only show up when you are wanted status.

Was this true?  and if so did they add it on next-gen since there are so many more things spawning.

There always has been, they patrol the streets of Los Santos the highways of Blaine County!

I like the game. my favorite is the loading when you pop the game in. menu loading is a lot faster than last gen one which would take 3 minutes of loading.

Game is still the same as last gen but with new stuff in it. All DLC cars are available from the start and added into traffic which is neat. I lost it when i saw a Zentorno driving around downtown. The first person view looks amazing. feels a bit wonky but no biggie. I havent been to the wild yet but might just do that now. I love the police cars especially the interior. Only the dashboard is detailed though, everything else is textures (atleast ive seen in some cars.) Would love to see a conversion of this cars with interior into IV. Ambulance and Firetruck have separate sirens. I have not checked out the fbi cars yet.

There are some things I don't like and some bugs I'm experiencing though:

  • AI car path is bugged in some parts in the city. Sometimes AI would drive on the wrong side of the street into oncoming traffic or bust U-turns out or nowhere. Kind of how Saints Row AI are while driving.
  • Handling is different than ps3.360 IMO. Its more loose and feels like im playing midnight club or something.
  • in FPV, going at high speed feels like I'm going 20. A little motion blur or controller shaking would of been nice.
  • In FPV, player auto runs instead of walking unlike 3rd person view. I prefer walking and pressing a different button instead for the running.
  • In online I cant connect to other players even with or without a crew. I logged in several times and always find myself in an empty lobby. When I do find other players to play with, I loose connection to them and get a connection error. When in an empty lobby I dont experience any connection errors. My internet is good. I'm able to play other games fine without any issues.
  • Civilian Grangers have police lighting equipment on them but are not functional. I guess rockstar forgot to remove the inner lights. I thought we had new fbi peds but turns out to be a group of girls on a girls night out.

Overall its great. I'm enjoying the game and look forward to more content from Rockstar. Game release went great unlike the ps3/360 disaster.

I expected it to look as nice as the trailers made it out to be :P

Ha ha but didn't you hear? Rockstar said that the first trailer shown was an early PC version. No worries, and yes it was a reliable source, it came from Rockstar themselves on their website when asked what system the first trailer was shown on.

I was actually watching a stream the other day and the game looked sublime and very detailed, however every video in youtube tends to make it look washed out.

Oh I agree, even on PS4 and Xbox One I think it looks amazing! Personally, I'll pass on any ENB made for GTA V. I think the standard version looks just fine. Also looks like we won't really need ELS, or a tazer either. I won't need sirens because they already changed the sirens for different emergency vehicles. All I really need is LSPDFR

Good joke. The only time they spawn is either at one specific spot in the city, random events such as pursuits or at the police stations. Or like the other guy said, if you have a wanted level.

I don't remember playing anything where cops patrol the city apart from GTA4, plus what's it matter, does seeing a police car on the street make you want a game more?

Uh, yeah it makes me want the game more. Having cops patrolling ever since GTA 3 until V it feels like a stupid and a pointless downgrade. I mean, how dumb can you be to manage remove something like that?

Having cops around makes the game a lot more immersive, not to mention fun from a gameplay perspective. There's a bigger chance gunfights are going to break out between crooks and cops and it sets for interesting three way fights. Maybe giving you time to slip away. Now you have to always call for 911 and even then you get one squad on scene only to see them die instantly.

Speaking of emergency services, paramedics can't even revive people anymore.

Just when I went to this thread to ask if R* got police patrols back. So we have to use an extra mod to bring back this basic element of the GTA...

I heard they can if they arrive in time to catch the vic struggling for life. I always wanted to run over a person in front of paramedics just to check it, but had no time

It's really weird how public services are treated here. So we have buses on streets but no chance to use them or drive them. We have a subway tram, but it's even less useful than in GTA IV. There are cabs and a cab depot but only one model and company present. Police has good officer models and lightning equipment but poor liveries, no patrols, and only one open station. Paramedics now have different liveries but can't do shit and no hospitals are open.

Our true hope are firefighters. They really do something now.

So R* has made any services that were useful in GTAIV, not useful in V? That sucks, plus if there were patrols I'd get a better chance of finding a goddamn police buffalo. Got one by chance the other day with Franklin, had a 3 star wanted level and one chased me so I killed the cops and took it to his garage, but it disappeared when I left. Been looking for one in that area all weekend but no luck. I hear its livery is more like the interceptor on next gen, is that true?

Fire Department pretty much, they recieved some improvements. Also, the Buffalo looks like the LSPD 2nd gen Stanier in regards of the livery. God thanks they did that for next-gen.
