Happy Veterans Day!

Featured Replies

For those of you residing in the United States, it's that time of year again. On Veterans day we honor and thank those that have served our country, some that may have even lost their lives. Not only is Veterans Day approaching, but the United States Marine Corps birthday is Monday, November 11th. Thank a Veteran for their service, and do a good deed for them; Such as hold the door open. For those who don't know anything about America's Veterans Day, I've posted the Wikipedia explanation below.

Veterans Day is an official United States holiday that honors people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, also known as veterans. It is a federal holiday that is observed on November 11. It coincides with other holidays such as Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which are celebrated in other parts of the world and also mark the anniversary of the end of World War I (major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when theArmistice with Germany went into effect). The United States also originally observed Armistice Day; it then evolved into the current Veterans Day holiday in 1954.

Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day; Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving.[1]

And on that note, have a great Veterans Day! :)

Yeah, I'm just going to say thanks or hold the door open if I see a veteran, to be honest I really don't pay much attention to days like this,I respect the military, but I don't really pay attention to this day.

Oh and hey, I don't like that picture, where is the coast guard, they don't deserve the recognition that other branches get?

Let's not play that game, okay?

They technically are a part of the Department of the Navy, as well as DHS and a myriad of other departments.

well a few years ago I spent it playing Skyrim, but I think I might go visit a local war museum (thought it might be very crowded )

From what I know, technically the are under the Dep. of Homeland Security and during time of war the  can be transferred to the Dep. of Navy, so during non-wartime times, they are not  part of the Navy.

((But correct me if I'm wrong))

I will thank my Grandfather who became an Army Medic, 1 year just after WWII ended, had he had been born just one year earlier, he would have been deployed.

Thank You to all Military Men for keeping our country safe,

Thanks,

TMG

Tribute:

( I would write the navy seal ballad but it is quite inappropriate)

I will be sitting in school waiting to go home. Granted the History Club at my school is having a panel of Veterans come in and talk about things. I'm not sure what about, but I do know that my grandfather will be there! So I will be thanking my grandfather for his service as an Air Force Medic during Vietnam; even though he signed up to be a Military Police officer, not a medic. lol.

I don't quite understand the logic in that. You respect our Veterans and demonstrate common courtesy towards them, but you don't recognize a day that they've earned and deserve?

As a United States Marine who served two tours of deployment overseas in Operation Iraqi Freedom, I ask all of you to remember America's service members both veteran and retired not just today, but every day.  For veterans and servicemen and women, the greatest fear we have is being forgotten.  To my brothers and sisters in arms who have made the ultimate sacrifice, you may be gone, but you will never be forgotten.  Freedom isn't free.  We paid for it.  And some of us paid the ultimate price.  Semper Fidelis.
