So now people are firing a teacher for defending an african-american kid? Are we going back in time? To the DeLorean!

Really though, that's stupid. She took the defense of a poor kid that was getting bullied by five others (always easier to act tough when you are superior in number, but a behavior of coward), and she gets fired? I mean, what next, someone will end behind bars for stopping a teen to rape a girl because their behavior was judged "threatening"?

Besides the fact that those bullies should have been punished for their behavior, their parents are as much guilty as their kids. They are seemingly bad at parenting, and should be punished as well for giving such a bad education to their kid.

how many people won't even respond to this post. First sign of racism

What do you expect us to say? We're sorry? We don't think it should happen? We don't have to respond to all posts that involve bullying or racism. How is it the 'first sign of racism' when we don't post? Just because we don't post, that doesn't automatically mean we are racist, it just means that we don't have an opinion on the matter or we don't want to share our opinion.

awful. And watch how many people won't even respond to this post. First sign of racism

What kind of logic is that? Just because someone does not want to leave a comment has nothing to do with racism. Sounds like you are just trying to incite something here.

On topic,

Of course in the true media fashion they have dissected a story and only shown the parts they want to use to get ratings with. I read the 11 page report from the hearing officer who conducted the investigation and submitted the recommendation and included in that document was the teacher's own responses to those findings. In the report the teacher makes some very good points and I almost thought that she was wrongfully fired, but in the end she did violate at least one district policy and possibly one or two more. The hearing officer who wrote this report did seem to claim certain things as facts without any reliable evidence however even with that in consideration it is indisputable that the teacher violated a district policy that clearly states a violation of said policy could result in termination.

My personal opinion is that the teacher had good intentions and what she said was misinterpreted and blown out of context. However, even with that in mind she still violated a district policy which, when violated, could result in termination.

What you are doing here, is judging people on something completely irrelevant. You are calling them racists without any good reason to do so, as you do not know a lot, if anything at all about most of those 142.000+ members. Calling them racists based on the fact someone doesn't post does not make a lot of sense, nor is it actually a valid argument.

However the saying goes "if you take a brick and herd it at a pack of dogs only the dog that gets hit yelps" looks like some dogs are yelping at me :)

Wow, I'm truly in awe of your special skill to up and diagnose people to be racist by something irrelevant.

Please, tell me your ways, supreme being.

On topic though, that's horrible. Always a shame seeing people get burnt for doing the right thing.

On topic:

It is safe to say the teachers words were taken out of context but come on man we were all little. Little kids and children are cruel in school my daughter goes through it pretty regular and she is actually a popular child, at least to the teachers I honestly dont know if she is, any way I was bullied in school and bulled some my self. DIdnt feel great to be bulled and I am ashamed of my bulling and have fixed those wrongs. Good for that teacher to do the right thing instead of sitting back and watching. If more people would stand up for what is right the world would be different, more or less.

I am not even going to acknowledge some of the stupidity and ignorance that has been typed.

Let the good times roll

Wow.

After reading that 11-page report, it's so shameful that it seems even the Principal does some very wrong things.

Anyway, time will tell how this plays out, & I hope she (the teacher) is reinstated.

If my post made you laugh (or giggle) in any way, smash that blue grey "Like this" button & like it

:) well Im trying to take the heat off of me,and put focus on something a bit more serious. What think isn't the topic. I have a right to give my opinions without having to be jumped on. And if I am going to to be jumped on at least give me the right to defend myself. What I was simply trying to convey was that the first sign of racism is when one ignores it. "If it doesn't apply he/she should let it fly". Right? Or maybe it does. heehehe.

An opinion is not stating that someone who does not reply is racist. Not everyone can do what you say when you say it. No one here is ignoring it, maybe they just don't have a say or don't want to post.

Furthermore, I think this topic should be closed. That is an opinion.

First we're all racists and bigots, now we're dogs?

Also, going back to what Crossfire said, Not replying makes us racist? Really? Maybe we just don't feel like replying. That's like saying, Oh look, a white cop had to shoot a black person, he's obviously a racist pig no matter what. Let's tell him so he feels bad about himself.

Wow, I create a topic on an interesting news story, go to school for 12 hours only to come back to ignorant responses and someone suggesting the topic be closed, *sigh* why?

On topic

I do hope that the teacher is reinstated I don't think she deserved to be fired, and yes I did read the report.

"I'm a marked man, so I'm getting out of here"

Ray Machowski

*Sigh* Seems contradicting that parents expect their children to be safe at school and when a teacher finally stands up for a child, she gets fired because a parent didn't like the way she spoke to her kid? Instead of reprimanding the teacher, how about disciplining your own kid? By them firing the teacher, it encourages the children to be an asswipe because they know their douchebag parents will do their dirty work for them and make the problem go away when something does not go their way.

Really? This topic had been posted for only 4 hours.... Members of the community have a life outside of LCPDFR with school, work social, ect. People aren't able to sit on the forums all day and watch every topic that has been posted on the site. Regardless of the topic, people would of commented and gave their 2 cents. It's ridiculous that you drew a very big conclusion like that in a short amount of time of 4 hours. Look at that, in just 12 hours this topic has received 16 replies.

I agree with you. You DO have a right to state your opinion, no matter what it may be.

Now let me put the your shoe on my foot for a second here. You said the following in the above quoted post:

What I was simply trying to convey was that the first sign of racism is when one ignores it. "If it doesn't apply he/she should let it fly". Right? Or maybe it does. heehehe.

I'd like to share with you that although this topic caught my attention and I opened it, I initially had no intention on replying. With your theory, I am a racist. It doesn't apply to me, and frankly I don't want to bother wasting my time saying "oh, so sad", because it's redundant. Plenty of other people know so, plenty of other people will say it. And don't get me wrong, the fact of the matter is that this is sad, it is wrong on so many levels and if I were the teacher I would file a lawsuit against the school system for wrongful termination. I'd even go as far as finding a lawyer to intimidate the school into enacting strict anti-bullying policies.

It applies to me and many others. But here's where your little "let it fly" charm falls into play. Now that you've proved your own bigotry by assuming at least 140,000 people on this site are racist and then accusing us of being racist for not posting, you're getting way more attention than you originally expected. And it's pretty negative attention. Then, you turn around and say this:

:) well Im trying to take the heat off of me,and put focus on something a bit more serious.

First, you smile. Then, you say that none of these posts should apply to you because it's not directly referencing the original post.

or, in other words, you're saying "well, it's not applying to me, and you should all let it fly. I can't stand by my own words, and therefore, I will deflect."

You're wrong.

Very, very wrong.

The original post was designed to spark a conversation between members related to the subject matter at hand - racism and bigotry in society today.

The only thing you did was bring bigotry to everyone's attention when you called me, and everyone else a racist, because you thought we wouldn't post. Don't believe me? check the last time I posted something on LCPDFR. It was over three months ago.
