Last but not least they flat out said that they knew why i wanted to be a fighter pilot which is to bomb the middle east apparently, and called me a fucking infidel after class like really.

Those are the dudes who have nothing else better to do than judge and criticize others. Their ignorance shouldn't even effect you that much, Fighter Pilots is a great job, if thats your dream, follow through with it.

Someone tell me this isn't bad ass all this rich arab kids think is being a "famous public figure" of some sort me i want to do what i love to do Fly fast jets and enjoy defending my country and being part of NORAD and enjoy what i have become from start to finish. I don't need big cars, big house, and big rings all i need is a fighter jet and a standard living standard middle class, like stupid people be stupid geez.

BTW This guys were Arab's with their "swag" and wanting to be some sort of athlete or famous person and in other words they don't me to go bomb their countries when there is a war... Because my teacher asked everyone what they wanted to be and i said Fighter pilot all eyes gazed at me thinking i'm a dumb ass.

Fitness can be arranged, Eyesight can be arranged aswell, education i still don't know which field would be best, lastly i'm scared of the centrifuge the most, mainly cause if you don't pass that you're done.

I like you was told and bullied that I would never be able to join the Army and be a soldier or fighter pilot because I was too fat (I was a fat child), the joke is on them because I joined the Army at 17 and spent the better part of seven years in one of the most psyhically and mentally demanding trade/job in the Canadian Army (Combat Engineer). When I went back for a school reunion, most people didn't recognize me because I had completely changed from being that over-enthuastic 13 year old kid, to a 24 year old Soldier.

Having said that, I spent a little bit of time in Military Recruiting and for the most part being a Fighter Pilot in Canada is as competitive (if not more) as the United States.

First of all being in the Military is no joke, it is NOT a job it is a life style and for some a career.

Secondly, being a fighter pilot is EXTREMELY competitive and exclusive many people try out, few get selected and even fewer earn their wings; They will take into consideration many attributes to include maturity, grades but above all physical and mental fitness.

If you DO NOT meet standard you WILL NOT go on any further, they might give you a second try or they might not. As a Cadet Liaison and Instructor part of my job is to recommend people for training courses to include some of the more "prestige" and "specialized" courses, I have failed or not recommended many people simply because they were not mature enough or did not meet standard.

I highly suggest you converse with an Air Force recruiter and if possible start training to get a civilian flying licence. Start preparing for it now, volunteer, play sports, do extra homework anything to get that competitive edge. I guarantee you the majority of people who you will be up against WILL have an impressive resume and background.

Thirdly always revulate your goals; I finally decided that I couldn't be a pilot because I wasn't very good academically and my eyes were not the greatest. So I decided to do some research and chose a trade/job that I would enjoy.

Fourth start growing a thick skin (this is not a criticism or to poke fun of you, but it is reality of what we face in the Armed Forces), Being a former recruit and having been an Instructor I can tell you that some days get REALLY tough. You will be called names, you will be made fun of and you will be singled out, nature of the game; if you can't shrug that off then you're in for a very long ride. Not only will you take crap from fellow Service personnel or instructors, but the public will single you out in Uniform or if you are wearing anything Military related. I've been called everything from baby killer, mama rap***, murderer, I've been told that people in the Armed Forces were just people who had dropped out of HS or is a last resort career; I've also been called ethnic slurs whilst in Uniform.

Fifth we taught people to Never Give Up. Basic Training can get real tough and real fast, the option of giving up was always their and the temptation ever so present. If you think you can do it, then go for it; nothing is stopping you. The only way you can be stopped is if the President or God comes down and says "No".

Actually being a pilot is looked at as being kick-ass. Take that from a Security Forces guy. We're looked down upon by almost everybody in every branch.....  But it is extremely hard to get into. The excellent physical fitness, perfect eye sight, college degree (for vast majority), rank of officer, etc. It's competitive and exclusive. That's why you're "cool" if you're a fighter pilot.

But a word of advice, if you're insecure about your likes, don't go into the military. And please don't let those be known in basic training (Protip)

Of course you could do this instead:

Also, I suspect the Canadian Forces might be able to help you pay for college (it looks like they require pilots to be officers, who must have a college degree). But definitely talk to a recruiter.

so today a group of people approached me and said that being a fighter pilot is stupid and its really lame... told me i'd never be one ever :C

then they said that i won't be able to be a pilot in general or anything in life cause i like anime and kpop... my feels. Of course i'm generalizing this there was much more involved.

This isn't really the place to post stuff like this, but I guess an exception has been made.

Don't let anybody tell you what you can and cant do. If you always care about what they said or say to you. You will cause (what they said to you) to come true. Make your dreams come true kid. Don't let them crush your dreams because of who you are or what you do. Stand up for what you do, flick them off your shoulder and move on up to make that dream come true. I got a little knocked down today myself (except that was a CVPI skin I made.) I got terrible feedback that just made me want to stop what i'm doing and go back to being bored or boring. Do what you think you were born to do, don't let them dictate to you. Like me, im moving on from the situation, but i'm still doing it. Use their negativity as motivation, do what they can't do, it may sound a little "old fasion", but it works. I suggest you do the same. Hope I was a help.

Well if i don't make it, the airlines are hiring.

That's a really, really bad backup plan - many of the things which would disqualify you from being a fighter pilot disqualify you from being an airline pilot. It works if you fail to convince the RCAF that you're officer material (fighter pilots are officers, not just pilots); if you don't adapt well to the military; and if you don't pass a military flight physical but still pass an ATP physical, but the physical required to fly scheduled commercial passenger service is not "are you physically fit" -- there are a *lot* of medical conditions that would disqualify you. And the airlines would most likely require you to do a lot of flying on your own dime to get the needed experience.

What happens if you can't be a pilot? It's something you need to be prepared for, not because it's particularly likely, but because if you pin all your hopes and dreams on being a pilot and *can't* be one, you're hosed.

Are you or the people talking to you about this subject teenagers or younger? Because that probably has a lot to do with it. I don't know any adults who talk like that. Anyway, so long as you have good hand-eye coordination and you don't have any medical problems, you'd probably be qualified for the Air Force. And if people don't like it, tell them they can shove a joystick up their ass.

Vision has to be uncorrected. No lasik or laser. And depending on what you're flying, no contacts or glasses.

Then the best thing you can do is to become a Fighter Pilot, and be the very best one there is. Hold yourself to the highest standard. Live your life however you want to because at the end of the day, it's YOURS. I'm not joking when I say this, if someone told me they wanted to be a homeless crack addict, I'd attempt to convince them otherwise, but at the end of the day it's really their decision and I wouldn't hound them about it. Just go on about my successful life and allow them to do whatever they wish with theirs, as long as they're not directly harming innocent people in the process. So do your thing!!!!!!

I'm not sure that's right -- sources I find seem to say 20/70 uncorrected and 20/20 corrected, and LASIK being allowed after 2007 (unless you mean it's technically allowed but in practice, with the competitive nature of the job, corrected vision makes you unlikely to get it). It is certainly not correct for the RCAF (which is the relevant one here), though in any case talking to a recruiter would probably get the best info.

Really ?  grow up / man up,             your really gonna let bunch of stranger's say this to you and actually believe it  smh this sounds like wah some1 said something I didn't like

if I was you its called turning away and walking away ignoring what they said  going in your mind as you walk away from them going  Fu I'm gonna prove you wrong

Listen Dude believe in your heart that you can do it and its already done. If you are truly dedicated it shall come true. I am a felon and my dream of being a police officer has been slightly affected. Notice I said "slighty affected" I believe in my heart of hearts I can still be accomplished. So far in my life I have never met an obstacle that I set out to do and haven't accomplished yet.  I still believe It will be done, and its important for you do believe this as well. Use their negative opinions to your advantage let it give you the strength to strive for it.

Good luck buddy you can do it. :)

sorry had to reply to this in this thread

As some1 who is bout  almost hired as Law Enforcement ( Long as I complete the hiring process )  Don't know what you a felon for but as long as you've kept your nose perfectly clean and been an up standing citizen of the community for least 5 year's  ex.  hold a job vol for non profit group's etc then I don't see why not it would show that you've changed and learned from your past and your determined to be better etc

I've seen guys esp when at back ground / medicial for NYPD that have a some long list of offenses  for traffic / arrests, etc and they were still going through the process as far  as I know

I'd also like to warn that you can't be too tall. Fighter pilots can't be taller than 6'5" from what I've been told. Also make sure you have good eyesight, and as Unr3al said, good hand-eye coordination.

You're wrong on so many levels with that comment there. I know this has been discussed in a prior thread and i'm not trying to turn this into the same thing, but you can have traffic offenses and arrest for MINOR crimes to go through the process to become a NYPD Officer. NYPD disqualifies felons who apply.

If you cant become a fighter pilot, you can still be RCAF Pilot, they need pilots for the CC-130's and the CC-177 Globemaster 3's. Your not in a fighter,  but at least you are still flying. Also the Canadian Coast Guard and Search and Rescue needs pilots as well for there missions.

Blue Line Roleplay is currently recruiting command staff and members. If you are interested please send an application! http://blueline-roleplay.enjin.com/

I'm just going on pilots I've talked to. I'll post the official requirements below taken from the USAF site.

Vision:

Normal color vision

Distant visual acuity to be not more than 20/70 each eye correctable to 20/20

Meet refraction, accommodation and astigmatism requirements

Corrective eye surgery could be a disqualifier

Have no history of hay fever, asthma or allergies after age 12

Meet Air Force weight and physical conditioning requirements

Have standing height of 64–77 inches and sitting height of 34–40 inches.

With corrective surgery, blows to the head or sudden pressure changes could jack up your eyesight. That's some PDs disqualify you if you have had it.

Although you are correct about the acuity. However something tells me that due to the competitive nature of the career, they'll prefer candidates with near perfect visual acuity.

Note: I realized we're talking about the RCAF after I posted everything. My Bad.
