OfficerMonroe reacted to Sam in LSPDFR 0.3 - Downtown Police Station
This is the third part of our LSPDFR 0.3 preview series.  For more information about the background behind 0.3, check out the second installment in this series here: http://www.lcpdfr.com/forums/topic/55363-lspdfr-03-backup-customization
Perhaps one of the hottest talking points about LSPDFR, even way before the modification was released, was the question of if and how LSPDFR would make use of the new police station interior in Downtown Los Santos.  Indeed, while we attempted to incorporate the interior into the earliest versions of the mod - we were only really scratching the surface as to the potential it holds.  Back then, there was also no way of unlocking the expanded version of the interior featuring the locker room, briefing room and downstairs areas, which always acted as a further limit to any plans we had for it.

The exciting news is that with LSPDFR 0.3, the entire interior is unlocked and open for exploration, and this is where the fun really begins.  We've made a big effort to make the station come alive, much like we did the lawyers office in LCPDFR, but on a much larger scale.  Now, while to go into great detail about all of the new scenes and scenarios in the station would be telling, you can take a look at a couple of the screenshots provided to get a mere taste of the sights and sounds of the Downtown Police Station.

The cool stuff we've put in with the Downtown Police Station doesn't end there, though.  To allow for maximum immersion, you can now actually walk into the locker room and directly go on duty from inside, without any loading screens.  By simply approaching the lockers and hitting a key, the camera will seamlessly transition to give a view of the player, with the familiar character selection menu appearing shortly after.
Continuing with this theme, LSPDFR 0.3 also introduces a great deal of new functionality for dealing with arrested perps.  We'll cover most of this in the next installment of this series, but for now be safe in the knowledge that 0.3 lets you actually walk inside and drop-off your prisoners directly inside the cells.  Plus, for those of you looking for the authentic southern Californian law enforcement experience, you can quite literally throw your prisoners down the stairs on the way there!

Of course, on the topic of arresting people, there's so much more that we could show you, but that'd maybe be a little too much awesomeness to take in for one day.  Instead, stay tuned for the next part of this update series - you won't want to miss it!

OfficerMonroe reacted to LMS in 1.1 released
    Hello,

it's time for another update. As stated >here earlier we've decided to release smaller patches but more often. This version is called 1.1 since we've proven ourselves to know the alphabet quite well by now I guess. Among various fixes (detailed changelog at the end of this posting), we also want to share some great news with you.

After a lot of consideration we've decided to make our early netcode, we implemented during development of 1.0 but never finished, available through the API. We've also polished it a little so clients can connect automatically using our master server. Clients can still use net_connect IP[:port] to connect to servers manually in case there are issues with the automatic connection.

    What does it offer?

Very very basic things like syncing blip creation for peds and vehicles (changes to blips except for deleting are not synced btw) and callout messages. Search areas during pursuits are also synced. I hope you aren't disappointed, this is how it is and how far we got back then and we decided it would be better to at least give you basic functionality (which you can extend!) instead of never releasing it at all. Callouts are host only.

    How does it work?

Put simply, we establish a UDP connection between the client and server. This is completely independent of your game session, so yes, in theory you could also connect to a host's IP from another GTA game session. But we don't really encourage you to do so...

So what to do as a host?

If you are hosting the game, LCPDFR will recognize this automatically. Sometimes scripts are loaded in the lobby already and detection of network game might fail, so either check if you get the helpbox stating you are in a network session or simply reload scripts once in-game.

Also make sure to forward UDP port 1337 (or whatever you set it to from the ini file) so clients can actually reach you. If you have a UPnP cabable router, LCPDFR will try to automatically forward ports for you.

So what to do as a client?

Join a game and see if you get a helpbox stating you are in a network game. If not, reload scripts. Once LCPDFR has detected your network session, it will try to retrieve the host's IP and port from our masterserver. If that works, you don't have to do anything, you will be connected automatically. If it fails (you will get notified), you can still use net_connect IP[:port] to connect. Note that port is optional.

I'm an API developer, what can I do?

I will update the GitHub repo with a basic example. Also check the new Networking class which provides access to our functions. You may have to add the LCPDFR.Networking lib to your project. For more questions, please use the dedicated API forums.

    Appendix

On a final note I have to thank LukeD and ineseri for their efforts in helping me testing our networking code.
From the early attempts of just establishing a connection to ironing out issues with the master server the two of you never hesitated to join me for a session when I asked. Thanks for that!

Also big thanks to Cyan for finishing the master server to allow automatic connecting now.

OfficerMonroe reacted to Black Jesus in Portland Police Bureau Pack
Hey guys, so I just wanted to showcase my progress/goals of a PPB pack that I'm working on. Due to the lack of videos showing lighting patterns, this pack might not be 100% accurate, but it will be close enough to PPB's real life patterns. The Portland Police Bureau is one of my favorite agencies, and there is a lack of mods for them. So here is my progress below:
    V1
    - CVPI w/ Whelen Liberty: 100%
    - Unmarked CVPI: 100%
    - Charger w/ Code3 21TR(LEDX):100%
    - Tahoe(Ver.1):100%
    - Tahoe(Ver.2(Older): 100%
    - K9 Tahoe: 100%
    - Caprice: 100%
    - Ford Police Interceptor Utility: 100%

    Possible Version 2 Release:
    - K9 CVPI
    - CVPI w/ MX7000
    - Charger w/ Whelen Liberty
    - Unmarked Tahoe

*10%= I imported the base model... that's it...

Just a SIDE NOTE to anyone using ELS - Make sure the RANGE (in the ELS.ini file) is put up to at least 500.  (Talking about Els_Range_Pl, and Els_Range_Ai).  If the AI one is under 300, and I attempt to spawn a Police Vehicle, ELS will force a clean up and delete that vehicle... :(

0.97 uploaded!  Aim'd at crashes and disregards (no spawns).
Backup Callout is a plugin for LCPDFR 1.0d, which uses LCPDFR API calls to plug in fluidly into your game.
Its currently all about assisting a primary officer, which has called dispatch for a additional unit (YOU), to assist him in a high risk traffic stop.
Be careful.  These felons don't want to go back to jail.

1.18[hotfix] addresses the issues of the callout ending without crashing LCPDFR if it fails to create on your computer.

I'm going to start working on my first callout.  One thing I would love to do is back up a Officer.  Most callouts so far seem linear - in the point that if you get a possible drug call, you know what to expect...
So I'm working on a assist call as the secondary for a traffic stop (for starters, its going to be in a serious degree IE stolen, felony stop, wanted, so forth).

    Completed Features:
Normal Traffic stops added. Low chance of normal out comes going "sour" ;) Traffic requests happen map wide, city and highway. 4 out comes to the traffic stop - all of which can change based on the random statistics given to the felon on creation Assign State or County Police Officers to Highway Traffic stops and assist. Idea pool + planned features
Suspect flees on foot Add to the INI file the ability to set callout ratio types (no normal traffic stops, all, or some) Dialog between primary and secondary officer before and after incident.  Suspect stays in vehicle - non-comply, locks doors (debating about adding)  Suspect throws drugs on ground (player must collect) Improve spawning of city related felon traffic stops (rarely grabs a bad spot)  Add carspawn options (letting players pick which vehicle in a INI spawn as the primary, and officer uniforms.), add stock spawning variety.  Add spawn points for highway traffic stops (current method needs to grow to handle this)  Add non-felon stops, traffic assists for normal infractions, suspected drugs.     To add, have suspect with drugs chance to flee vehicle and drop drugs. Add ability to search vehicle in more detail. Dabble in seeing if I can make a scripted event to assist as a sobriety administering unit for a possible DUI/DWI call

I would gladly name drop, but I'd probably get yet another warning point against me because someone doesn't like my answer.

First off, it should probably be noted that the site isn't a democracy and any concept of freedom of speech people have doesn't legally apply here.
We allow discussion that doesn't violate our Community Guidelines, and we do this quite limitlessly, e.g. topics like this would be removed on a lot of other forums I know.

That being said, people generally take dislikes to power structures. People generally take a dislike to police, governments and teachers. And it's quite common to see dislike or hatred for administrators and moderators of online communities.
For those who disagree with our rules and violate them, we generally engage them and tell them what we took issue with, how it violates our community guidelines and to warn them from doing it again. When they don't improve their behaviour over many warnings, they are shown the door temporarily. If it continues, they are shown the door for a long period of time (a year or more). Bans are not common place, however, as evidented by the people complaining about the team so much.
The great thing about the Open Internet -- there are alternatives to LCPDFR.com. GTAPoliceMods, GTAForums, GTA-PoliceModifications and more. If people have strong disagreements with how the site is run and they would prefer not to follow our rules, it's usually best they go elsewhere.

However, getting back to the "efficency" term, which sounds a bit corporate, there are probably improvments to be made, yes. Sometimes there are conflicting rules - e.g. we previously allowed off-site advertising on certain Showroom forums but not the gallery. This was non-sensical, and therefore we made it consistant.
The Acting Community Team Supervisor, which is currently Iconography, regularly reviews performance and motivates Community Team members.
Regarding working as a team, the Community Team all have each other on Instant Messaging and work as friends.
We try to get on with everyone, although I've not been nearly as active as usual recently.

It should be noted though that at the end of the day -- this is a website. It is not a full time job for anyone.
We could probably slightly improve with 10 or so full-time paid moderators. But where would that money come from?

I honestly think testing like the SAT and all those others you need to get into a collage is a good thing but things like the Riverside and all those should go. I know here in New Mexico when we take the SBA's (Standard Based Assessment or whatever bullshit.), there is a A-F grading system for schools and that has a lot of teachers leaving the schools because I think if your kids fail, you get like disciplined or some shit. I really don't know since I pay attention to Law Enforcement news more than New Mexico Education problems.

Science and Social Studies are still important, just not as much as Mathematics and English. Math and English are used everywhere. Knowing how to work with numbers, and speaking proper English are skills that are needed in every line of work. Things like knowing the reason why WWI broke out, or balancing chemical equations are only useful in certain fields of work. A cashier or a waiter wouldn't need to know that stuff.

Really, there's only one "race", and it's the human race. Skin color doesn't change this. So if anything, the human race is bad, and that, I agree. But saying that race plays a factor is dumb. Location, psychic, education play a role. Not the "race".

I've also added / improved a lot of things such as: more fire related calls and less medical calls for the engine and the battalion chief, i will give a full list of all of these new things when i'll release the version 0.7. However i don't know when I will release this new version (i'm back to school, and therefore don't have much free time to work on the script).
