  1. 1. Do you think we need the Police?

Recently, I got in a debate with a few people on whether or not we should have Police.  I took the side of the Police, whereas they were arguing against saying that "without Police there would be less crime" and "all Police are pigs".  The usual arguments.  I want to hear the opinion of the LCPDFR community, should we or should we not have Police?

Of course we need the police. You can't expect everyone to play fair. The police departments all over the world are important because they manage to control crime and maintain public order. Police are an essential part of a democratic society.

With less police officers, there would be more crime. As I said, you can't expect everyone to play fair and be able to handle every situation on their own.

Just to note, I don't think you'll get many answers as "no" when you post this on a forum focused on policing. :P

Your friends don't seem to understand human nature very well. As ineseri said, not everyone is going to play fair. There will be someone out there who will want to bend or break the rules that are set to keep the public safe.

Without police, crime would flourish because criminals would know that there would be nothing to stop them from committing crimes.

^ Police are, and always will, be one of the pillars in society. Without police the world as we know it start to break down. Think, no one could arrest and convict dangerous criminals such as child molesters, murderers, drug dealers and if police didn't existed, who would keep up the law enforcement? The army? Civilians? PMC's and security companies? No way. Not all persons are nice. Police are the only way too keep the world a safe place.

And politicians who cut the police budget, do they want the crime to fly sky high, and letting criminals deal weed on the playgrounds? Do they want every person to live in fear?

And if people are scared, then they will get something to protect them. A gun maybe, and if everybody owns a gun, guess what? Here is some simple math.

7 Billion people + twice as many guns = a really bad place.

Not all people think police is good, but there is more that is for police.

It depends in the country. But of course every country need Police. Without police less crime? Without police, everybody would be doing crime cause no one would chase the criminals. Even civilian caught a criminal, who would they call when there is no police?

No Police No Prisoner

Without law enforcement the rule of law and public order would not exist. If there was no police, people would have to defend themselves against crime, and in theory it could even decrease crime after some time, as every criminal would know that people would defend themselves.

Also, police is one of the ways the government stays in power. If you take the police out, then the army would take the policing duties over, as with no institutions tasked with the defense of the (democratic) government, it would be quickly disassembled and the strongest would rule, essentially taking us back to the times of the barbarian tribes.

It depends how you look at things, they are given authority by the government, not the people therefore in my opinion have no room to think they can tell me what to do or dictate to me what is right or wrong, they but their noses into things that don't concern them a lot of the time, people call them for the stupidest of reasons & half the time I see them just sitting in empty parking lots waiting for calls or whatever, they stop people and ticket them hundreds of dollars because of a burnt out tail light, they break the "law" just as everyone does & all these laws were written by self made authority figures, if the police are actually needed, they should only be used for important things that would be considered life or death or things that are meant to be visible such as over size loads province wide, clearing MVA's which all they do is just sit in their cars or direct traffic at MVA's, other then that, why does a cop need to be called to a domestic dispute? can't people solve their own problems? cause once that's on your file, that shit sticks forever, no reason to call them for anything, my mom called the cops on me a few years ago, 6 of them showed up JUST for me.. they do tend to over do it a lot, I refused to do a tire change on a drunk ladies car, so I got my boss to call the police as it was a safety issue, not even 5 minutes later a Crown Vic, 2 Taurus & an Explorer show up & 9 cops got out & I was like really? a lot of them are bullies, over compensators or try to intimidate you to get their own way.

Without police and the Control over the populace they bring, a lot of countries without an effective military that could act as law enforcement would definitely regress back to an almost Victorian society- Highwaymen on motorbikes, armed gangs pillaging and raping like Vikings, Pirate ports, gangs of Fagin-esque pickpockets etc. One only needs to look at the world before effective LEO agencies to get the picture. The rule of Law is one of the things that make Human Beings different from animals- we have control over our actions, and therefore we have a shared sense of right and wrong- a sense of property, therefore stealing should be punished, etc. The world before effective public order, policing and the right to trial with a jury was a rough place- a lot of petty crimes, like stealing an apple for example, were punishable by death. And believe me, should law agencies just stop operating instantly, History will repeat itself- within a week there would essentially be a Real-life version of the movie The Purge on our streets. That is something I think everyone here agrees shouldn't happen.

And that's why Cops are needed, kids. Anyone who says otherwise is probably a whining keyboard warrior hiding behind their 13-year-old false bravado.

Yeah, I was with your reasoning until the last part, I don't get if someone has a difference in opinion, it's wrong, can you kindly explain this to me, I'm DIEING to read it.

Ultimately, we live in a society that would simply crumble without any form of law enforcement- there is no doubt in my mind that without police countries would to be able to run.

However, I think you're right to ask this question. It keeps our higher-ups in check in a way that we simply can't.

There will always be those cop haters, whether they are mad they got pulled over, or some other reason. We cant fail to realize that without cops, things would go crazy. Obviously we need police, who ever started that argument is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

I don't hate cops at all, but I feel we only need them to a certain extent, a lot of times they butt into things that are none of their business, ask questions they have no business asking or people get them involved for the dumbest of reasons "Oh yeah, you wanna sear at me? I'm calling the Po-lice"

I had a cab driver run into me this morning, smart thing to do is to call the Police, sometimes, as long as they stay within their boundaries of questioning, I have no problem cooperating with them at all.

As far as people calling for nonsense, LEO's have a responsibility to investigate every call for service regardless of what it is. So basically what would happen in the case you gave is that the cop would tell everyone it's a civil matter and leave. And as long as it pertains to their investigation I don't see how a question a cop asks crosses the line. Even so you have the right to not answer them anyway.
