Just out of curiosity what color light setups do you guys use? All blue, blue/red or what? I just switched from red/blue to all blue.

I used Red-White for a while, as a part of my NYPD setup. Now I switched to Blue/Red. Next step will probably be all blue once I get bored. (or maybe all red)

Yea I used a NYPD setup for a few days but I didnt like it. I used red/blue since i started playing FR. Now recently I switched to all blue and I'm liking it alot

I have several different versions of my games with different departments in them, but one of my favorite ones was with Lt. Caines CVPI with solely the MX7000 on top for police1 and police2, with one car having red/blue and the other having red/red to give it a mid-2000's feel of New Jersey. But for my other ones I use red/blue and sometimes Blue/blue.

Sticks and stones may break bones, but 5.56 fragments on impact.

Where I grew up, Police use blue lights, fire/ems use red lights. Maybe it's just because that's what I grew up with but I definitely prefer all blue lights on my police cars.

I'm a fan of the classic Californian Red and Blue. However, I prefer my Vector bars to have Red, White and Blue (Vector would be the V-shaped ones in the original)

Where's the "however"?

My local PD uses almost all blue (2 red lights in front and rear, rest is blue). However, I just prefer the classic California setup (which is also what the DC Police use; I use the same lightbar and colors).

Red and Blue - Aussie style

Same here: Red/White lights.

Don't mean to derail the thread but I have a question.

How do you change the colour of the lights ? Surely it's not as simple as changing the ELS .ini (pretty sure I tried that ages ago)

Was thinking you prob' have to change the lense colours, is that right ? And if so is that done with photo shop or something ?

I don't have Photoshop or anything like that so hopeing it's something simple, but I suspect as I said the lenses need to change. Would appreciate someone setting me straight.

Sorry for the nub questions but it would be nice to be able to use all blue with x2 red on certain cars I have :)

@Molten:

The colors of the lights are set in the texture files, look for "emerglights.png" and/or "emerglights_emis.png". Modifying them might even work with Paint, I'm using Gimp for it.

But 2 red lights and all other blue might doesn't work, as often more than one light is mapped to the light in the texture. Just try it, maybe it works.

Cheers, if gimp works then I'll give it a shot with that.

Thx for the advice.

....Back to topic..... :)

emerglights.png has transparency, so Paint won't work. Make sure to keep the transparency (I think Paint.NET has it so pasting translucent over translucent will just replace, not combine, which is nice here).

I second the suggestion about GIMP. From what I've seen, it's as fully featured as Photoshop, but about $700 more free.

Just came back to this thread after experimenting. Hadn't seen your post cp702 but I downloaded Gimp and indeed it worked a treat :)

@ Cj24 you were right about the x2 red. It came out all blue. But that is fine. I have learnt something and just need to experiment a bit more with my lights.

Also: now taken part in the poll = All Blue :)

It takes a while to figure out how some cars are mapped. I've figured out a lot already and have light textures made up for a lot of cars. If you want help with anything let me know. Ill be more than happy to help. I'm really picky out my els light setups so I like them to be perfect.

how do u change it? i see alot of all blue lights on police mods like the sheriff pack by bugs, u can change the colors from all blue to whatever u want? :O

Edited by raynolds

Yes, you can. Just edit emerglights_emis to change the color they flash, and emerglights to change the color of the glass. Or, copy either file from a car whose setup you like.

I find that an increasing number of departments are using all blue to differentiate themselves from other emergency vehicles, but not all department are embracing it. Police lights where I used to live were all blue, and I liked the look of them that way. So thats why my overheads on my cars are all blue.
