Vehicle Accident Call Outs

I have been thinking lately, and decided it would be really cool if we could have a call out that would be to respond to accidents.

As you arrive on scene, you will see anywhere from 1 to say, 3 cars that have collided in some fashion. You may have injured people in the vehicles, or even injured pedestrians from being hit.

And you also may have witnesses who would be marked with some sort of arrow above their head (like currently the red arrow over wanted persons).

After arriving on scene, your job is to block traffic, call for ambulance/coroner or treat injuries by yourself, and speak to witnesses to gain an understanding of who is at fault and who to ticket.

Then you would give any necessary tickets, tow any vehicles, and clear the scene.

Just thought this would add a lot of realism to the game as currently this is a big thing that cops would be responding to.

There is actually a VA callout feature included in Wouter's Callouts (you can find the script >here)

The problem is that this script only includes a collision with a pedestrian and not with other vehicles.

I guess a collision with other vehicles would be pretty hard to script due to the fact that the vehicles have to looked damaged. (I don't know if this is possible to do with scripting) But it would be indeed a nice feature to see.

I think Braveheart's callouts have MVAs...can't remember as it's been awhile since I've used it.  I could be thinking of ver .95 though.

It is out there, and it's two vehicles, usually smoking and inoperable.

To my knowledge making vehicle deformation via a script isn't possible. (but if anyone knows a way feel free to comment)

As has been mentioned WoutersCallouts does include a collision with a pedestrian, and Braveheart's callouts has a traffic collision as well which spawns two vehicles next to each other, smoking and inoperable (read above comment by DrDetroit)

I am looking into other possibilities.

Braveheart's does, but the spawning in that script is bit odd. Half the time I used it, they spawn in the middle of nowhere where there isn't even traffic (sometimes not even a road). Plus it doesn't have the support of LCPDFR's API. I would also like to have an MVA callout using the API.

Edit: I don't really think the vehicle's visible damage is that important.

I don't really care about the API, I highly recommend that you use Bravehearts Policing Script and additionally download vDH Policehelper. With Braveheart you can respond to an MVA/RTA, and with the extras installed with Policehelper you can call for a towtruck and a coroner.

I'm not going to use another source of callouts when LCPDFR already has its own that can have more added to it. And I don't like the other things that Braveheart's does, like the resisting arrest. I know it can be disabled, but the function still causes problems. And the fact that it's almost impossible to kill people by hitting them.

Braveheart might use that/have used that - I think I remember showing up and seeing a car flying.

That's the issue: if you show up too early, you see the car flying.

@LukeD:

wouldn't it be possible to use AddForce() on a car so it crashes to another just before player arrives at the scene? It should work like any other AI car - they have visible damage after hitting objects.

Possibly. Possibly not. Who knows.

Like I said, I am looking at other possibilities ;)

What AdamP said. I usually manually create an accident for screenshots, I crash the car until It has a reasonable amount of damage and then I add steam and smoke via the trainer and set them up and add emergency vehicles and peds etc. if you manually set them up and use scripting, it might be possible?

I also use the Braveheart BECAUSE it is seperate from the API which, for me, causes the game to crash less

Funny thing happened that made me think of this thread.  A spontaneous, high speed, multiple vehicle accident.  I think it was a PH related event.

Was sitting on the side of Middle Park Dr clocking speeders (smoke and coffee break!), and this cab comes hauling past me at 60mph, so I try to catch up and pull over the speeder.  He wasn't running or anything, just going very fast and kinda reckless driving.

As I'm trying to roll up on the taxi, he was still a half a block in front of me when I see him fly through an intersection (was a red light for him) and plows into several cars, deflects off one and ends up smacking into the side of a building.  He dies at the scene, instantly.  The other cars also had fatalities and all cars were pretty well damaged as well.  Nothing to do but call the coroner and medics.

Never really had seen this happen before like this, so thought appropriate.  Not exactly a scripted moment, but an interesting, spontaneous, true MVA incident.

Yes I have that happen a lot. Chances are it was a reckless driver event or random drunk driver event. When it happens to me, I chase down the driver, even though he isn't running from me, only to find out he is drunk once he gets out. Most of the time, if you can get close enough while his driving to pull him over, he will stop. But you're right....I've seen many fatalities when this has happened. lol

A way that could be possible in GTA4 would be to spawn two cars slightly offset (left headlight on each being on the centre stripe or something) facing each other, somehow get them to 30 (city street) or 45 (highway) and collide with each other.

That might be what the AddForce() is referring to though =\
