What is the most accurate Police show no television right now?

Featured Replies

Adam-12. Yes. I remember staying up until 4AM just to watch that back when it was on TV here last year, I've only seen a few episodes but I think it's really cool, I'm not sure if it's really realistic though.

Not to mention the cars...

Yeah, I love the cars they use! During the first couple seasons they used a Plymouth Belvedere, and during the last two they used an AMC Matador. I actually got into modeling because I wanted to make the cars from adam-12. I've made a Matador, but I haven't publicly released it because I didn't make the can lights that well (I'm currently making better ones) and there are some issues with the wheel textures and mesh (I need to re-make them too).

  • I think Cops might be the most accurate...

  • COPS hand down. A good show which depicts the most real-life incidents handled by the members of Law Enforcement and the most accurate in terms of how incidents are handled as well as suspects.

Here in Brazil we have our own version of COPS(not a ripoff, it is actually our Official version) called "Polícia 24 Horas", depicting the Military Police of São Paulo(PMSP) and their daily routine. But unfortunately it is the only good cop show from our country except for maybe "Força Tarefa", but that one got cancelled because the audience is more interested in soap operas and bad comedy like Zorra Total.(oh lord how I hate this piece of garbage of a country).

Oh! There is "9mm São Paulo" too, but I have not watched that, but I heard it is inspired on another american TV Show called "The Shield".

Here is an full episode of "Policia 24 horas", I cannot find a version subtitled in english, sorry.

Good thing Urdu and Hindi are pretty much the same language eh? If they weren't I'd think that it's gibberish :P

In my opinion, it depends what agency you're trying to find information about. For local police/sheriff, COPS is your best bet. However I've talked to many people who worked in departments such as Brevard Co. Florida, about the COPS TV crew. They do ride-a-longs with a department for about 4-5 months at a time typically, so the footage of pursuits and fleeing subjects is often occurrences that happen over a wide period of time, not everyday on the job. When it comes to state, I think Alaska State Troopers is a good show for that. However, I think there should be another state agency on TV. AST is not a good replication of state law enforcement in the, 'lower 48.'

COPS because it's cinema-verite. It's shot in real time and shows events as they happen. The only thing they don't record is desk work, although they do record roll call and briefings sometimes.

I actually learned something very interesting about COPS:

A lot of it is fake.

I'm an Auxiliary Police Officer, and cops wanted to come and do a show with our regular police department. Basically, what they do is comb through all of your files, find the most "interesting" and then recreate it with actors.

I don't know if they do this with every episode, but they wanted to do it with our regular department.

edit: i changed "all" to "a lot" because it's not all fake. Can't fake car accidents.

Well, at least they are still real calls.

I don't buy into that at all, dude. You can't fake pursuits on public roads, or officer involved shootings caught on dash cam, or a dying child with lungs too big for its body, etc. And most actors I know of wouldn't volunteer to be pepper sprayed or tased falling onto some parking lot pavement. A person registered on this forum who's a Sheriff's Deputy had the COPS crew ride along with him, and he said that they record things as they're supposed to, but they reverse the order of the 'personal story' clips that are shown before a callout, and the actual callouts themselves. They also obviously have to edit a lot of footage to compress things into a half hour worth of programming.

I'm pretty sure after ~453 hours of the program aired to the viewers, and which was recorded in public view for much longer than that, they would have been caught
