Driving Physics??

Featured Replies

Can anyone here that has got the game already shed a little light on how the driving physics are? From the videos I have seen it looks kinda "arcade/kid style"...tell me this isnt the case..

I've seen a lot of gameplay videos and the crash physics are horrendous.  You can crash into a house an not really have any major damage.  I'm not sure how the actual driving is, but the crash damage leaves much to be desired.

Mind you game play videos are often footage of a pre-RC build of the game. I'm not saying GTA V physics are wonderful, because my XBOX is broken and I'm not blowing $90 to repair a soon to be obsolete console plus a new game so I haven't played it. But what you're seeing may not be the real deal. Battlefield 3's beta was terrible as far as glitches go, and so was the Star Wars MMO beta. They even had missing features. But we received builds as far back as 4 months prior to the open beta release, so there was almost no point.

So try to look on the bright side until you actually get your hands on the game.

And you are correct, you can clearly see from the gameplay footage that the driving and damage physics are very poor.

The cars in the GTA IV had shocks to decompress the vehicle when it turns, better weight, pressure and suspension. It also had better damage physics. I really want that back!

When you see the gameplay footage on how the cars are being driven in the GTA V, the cars don't have weight on it, suspension hard as a rock and steering is very easy. The cars don't feel like you're driving a real car in a real environment like GTA IV. But what makes it even worst is that the graphics are really good, like the real world, and then when you have a arcade driving control coupled with a GTA V environment that just kills the sense of consistency.

Anyway its a good game other than the lame driving and damage physics.

Maybe the Rockstar made the driving and damage physics lame because of the consoles, so it's easier to drive with the controller. And maybe they will make realistic driving and damage physics for the PC version.

To sum it up the car physics are shit.

In gta 4 there was a lot more smashing and dents into the car, now it's all scratches and marks sadly. as someone said on my thread before, a lot of kids were whining how they couldn't drive correctly and like the AI, so they took away a lot of the smashing to it for those kind of people who like to drive the right way =/.

The physics engine aint as good as I thought it would be, besides body physics. I expected to be able to destroy buildings by now, or at least chip parts of it off.

when gta V comes out on PC you gotta expect a realistic driving physics mod, or something similar.

It gives me the feeling that the Rockstar got manipulated by the groups of 11-14 years old children who don't have the skills to drive a simple car in the GTA IV and who are not suppose to play the game anyway. They should play Need for Speed or something else and stop complaining about the GTA IV because it's obvious that this game is too much for them (too much for those who complain).

Let Rockstar to improve and make their games realistic as possible, since they made a very first step on adding a realism to the GTA with the driving and car damage physics which are now in the GTA IV. They really took that step backwards with the GTA V.

It's not only 11-14 year olds who want easier-to-drive cars. Not a lot of people play games for complete realism and GTA is one of those games that people want to be fun - not realistic. They don't want to have to worry about getting a new car every single time they crash and they want to actually be able to drive the cars easily.

Am I disappointed in the reduced vehicle damage? Yes. But the handling? I actually like it this way better. It's a lot easier to control for doing normal GTA things.

"Work and ideas get stolen, then you keep moving on doing your thing."

It's been a bit of a struggle to de-learn GTA4 driving, which I miss already. Cars are almost TOO responsive now; I think I'm going to drift around a corner and I almost do a 90 degree turn sometimes (using Franklin's ability I went from 60-0 in about 5 feet). I've still managed to mess up a car enough that the wheels get jammed, and roll-overs seem more impressive, though you can hold the stick over to roll back over pretty easily it seems.

It's something to get used to, but I'm not going to let it ruin any enjoyment of the game.

theres a petition going around to change it back to iv or close to it I hope rockstar changes it because this handling sucks monkey balls all vehicles feel the same

I don't think Rockstar cares honestly. They have bragged about how good their driving physics are, and I agree with them. It took a while to get used to, but now I can't go back to GTA IV.

Invenio, Investigatio, Imperium

It might be down to our individual driving styles, people who modulate the inputs and pay attention to how the car behaves and adapts to the physics will have a better experience than those who mash the throttle and drives Burnout style.

It's very different from IV, the cars in IV weren't that good to be honest, the cars were very loose and with massive bodyroll. The cars in V feels more planted on the road, some of the sports cars are prone to turn-in oversteer followed by substantial understeer as it tries to snap back into place, however easing off the throttle or taking it easier before you turn in will help it.

I personally like how the cars drive, there's always some acclimation when learning how the cars drive in a new game, but I find it as the best driving mechanics this side of racing sims, the cars communicate to you both by showing how you what is going on, but also by giving you audio input, going gentle on the brakes in some cars will keep it just below where  the ABS kicks in which helps tremendously with slowing down.
