Rockstar is a brilliant company and they've had loads of success with the GTA titles in the past. I think that a PC version is definitely planned and will be released several months after the console release. They do this because the know that anybody who is a fan of GTA on PC will probably buy the console version first, then purchase the PC version a few months later. They make double to profit over just releasing them both at the same time, because PC owners will just get the PC version.

Max Payne had both released at the same time because R* knew that Max Payne wasn't the type of game you'd buy twice, so they just released it for everybody at the same time.

I agree with that post 100%

But the Max Payne franchise is smaller and riskier in terms of a PC release however. Yeah they had two seperate games before but they were developed by GoD (I believe, I may be wrong on that), whereas something like GTA is a massive, massive hit.

I read somewhere that if there was a PC version it wouldn't be until 6 months after console release. I honestly doubt it as the sales are so much smaller on pc compared to console, however if there is enough support then they will, any company, if they see a profit in it, will do it.

I agree 100% as well. That makes a ton of sense now that I have thought about it. Good to hear from most people that there will be a PC version released after some months of the consoles released. Thanks a lot!

So GTA 5 will be released on September 7th I've heard, and there will be a PC version available right? Also, if there is, can I pre-order it now or is there a certain time reserved for PC for people to preorder? I know Xbox and PS3 is available to preorder, how about PC?

Thanks

This issue's been beaten into the ground for the last couple of years. Also regarding Rockstar releases, Alan Wake and Red Dead Redemption. I shouldn't need to say any more than those two names. Rockstar does what they want, when they want.

Ahem, Alan Wake (and AN which is decent) is now on PC. It recouped the cost of making it.....in 48 hours. Amazing!

RDR was R* San Diego which never (aside from MC2) releases PC games.

EDIT: Okay, seen GTAV keys on those legit Steam key sites, but maybe that's a misprint

This confuses me...what does Alan Wake have to do with Rockstar? It was developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Microsoft...Remedy isn't a part of R*. Max Payne was originally made by Remedy but they sold the rights to Take Two Interactive (owners of Rockstar). That's the only relationship between the two companies. Also, Alan Wake was released on PC, I own it on Steam; so how is that even related to the conversation?

"Work and ideas get stolen, then you keep moving on doing your thing."

So, i think i agree with post 22, Bojan's post that is

because i actually was wondering that what is rockstars considering about releasing GTA on PC? about how would they go on porting it? (heh) or maybe  dealing with piracy issues? (i think it's just possible to pirate games on consoles too anyway) so what.

everybody knows  that  Rockstars will benefit from releasing GTA V on PC, specially because their game rocks~ and people love it. so, i don't think that  they would mis this opertunity?

(or maybe they would~ omg)

BTW, i don't own any consoles,  i'm like a cat lazily lying on my (overpowered in my opinion) PC. i would maybe wait for more than 7 months to see if  it would come out for PC, then if i see it worth, i might buy one... but maybe i'm too patient

Who knows.  They didn't release RDR for the PC, which make me think they may not release GTAV for PC either.  Would be aweful, I'd have to buy a damn PS3 (or whatever) for two games...well three, since I'd like to try out The Last of Us, which will probably not be on PC either.

DrDetroit

The main reason they didn't release RDR....

Is because it was a R* San Diego title. They never release for PC.

Secondary reason was because it was a new IP and they didn't want to take the risk of it tanking on PC

It's a loose but influential association. Remedy and Rockstar North were "good buddies" for many years during the development and release cycles of Max Payne 1 and 2. They've undboutedly traded plenty of management and staffing for their two Max Payne projects. That game is heavily based on the Max Payne game engine, and Rockstar North was most certainly originally the publisher in mind to release the game under, but they ultimately released it under Microsoft Game Studios, probably in part having to do with Rockstar having their hands full with their own in house game, Red Dead Redemption, which released a mere four days after Alan Wake. That being said, as was the case with their previous games, the various gaming platforms had different release dates for the game. With Max Payne 1 & 2, the PC version actually came earlier. And originally, Alan Wake was meant to premier on PC, and in fact many of their live tech demos were displayed on PC as well. Close to the end of the development cycle, they announced that they'd canceled the PC version, citing what I consider to be a couple of bogus reasons. If you ask me, they picked up bad habits due to both old and new influence from Rockstar North and Microsoft (among other juggernauts in the gaming industry) who have had either developers or publisher staffing who have spoken out against PC releases due to piracy or low sales or difficulty of porting or whatever other reason they want to choose.

The PC version of Alan Wake was released nearly 2 years later, and I'm convinced that was not Remedy's original intent, especially seeing as one of their key employees said that PC gaming is "part of their roots".

Also celticfang, Red Dead Redemption was not a new IP. It was a sequel to Red Dead Revolver on the Playstation 2.

No it was a new IP as far as the PC goes, given RDRevolver wasn't on the PC either. That is what I was getting at with my new IP point, no it isn't a new IP overall, but for that platform....yeah it's a risk

Ah, I see what you're saying. Well hopefully Rockstar does release GTA V on PC at some point. I'd like to have LSPDFR :D

I can't speak for G17 Media, but most likely if GTA V comes out for PC, the developers here will likely try to reverse engineer the game to where they can make a sequel to LCPDFR. Everyone here likes to play the mod. Even the developers themselves. As for Rockstar, the ball's in their court. But I believe if we make our voices heard loudly enough, and there's enough of us, they'll take care of the fans.

By my guess , if they do , it will be around Christmas time , because if you look at the past GTA's that made it to pc , they are out within 3-6 months after their console counter parts

of course they will release it for pc...most of the big gta games have been released on pc and they would be stupid not to...more money for them...the only reason I would buy it for pc is to mod it if it cant be modded then forget it I will not be buying it for pc period and instead will get the digital copy of the game on the ps3 along with watch dogs which I think will kick gta v's ass

Remember tz71 that developers still have to work on porting the game over form console to console. It's not as if all they have to do is press new discs. Entry level programmers in the U.S. can start off around $60,000, veteran ones can make six figures if the company decides to keep them instead of hiring new college graduates all the time to keep costs down. Then you have to factory in things like the costs of packaging materials, distribution, advertising, etc. Porting over a game for a minority console (which we are in most multi-platform games, unfortunately) isn't as lucrative as you might think. I'm not saying it would be counter productive for Rockstar North, but it could take a long time for them to see the kind of money that they'd want out of it, if ever.

“Hey Rockstar, I'm curious whether you are planning on releasing GTA V on the PC...” – received via Mouthoff

“You've probably been asked before, but is GTA V coming for next gen consoles also?” –@tomtoon2010

The only versions of the game that we have announced are for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation®3 which are set for a September 17th worldwide release. We don’t have anything to share about the possibility of a next-gen or a PC platform release at this time and we are completely focused on delivering the best possible experience for the consoles people have right now.
