[Research/WIP] Custom Light Patterns through carcols.ymt

Featured Replies

Hi @Captain14 you did an amazing job with the lighting, I'd like to know which lines are about environment lighting (what makes the light all over the place even up to few blocs away) so I can add it to the other vehicles, that's in carcols right ? thank you very much !

    I've made a carcols a while back that just seems to work really well on pretty much any car you throw it on. Here's a demo of it on my Kansas cars, no edits were done to the cars.  If a

Yes. It is in the carcols. Look under the siren setting that you want to edit for:

 <lightFalloffMax value="10.00000000"/>
      <lightFalloffExponent value="10.00000000"/>

Adjust to taste. Me personally, I have mine set at 45 with a falloff of 15.

As far as flash patterns go, I have found that  you can use a binary of 101 or 010....although, there is a pause before it restarts the flash. Just for testing I did a flash pattern of 111111000000111111000000111111000000111111000000111111000000111111000000111111000000111111000000111111000000.

With a BPM of 660 it flashed so fast that it almost looked steady.

Thanks you very mcuh for your reply, unfortunately it seems that carcols for police, police2 etc... are encrypted and thus impossible to override and most of vehicles change carvariations and use default carcols so impossible to know what it is to add replacement in a dlcpack.

No...it is not encrypted. Grab the unencrypted carcols.ymt and search for police/sheriff  or search for id value="1"

thanks you for replying, actually the only carcols.ymt that I found are here  hosted here https://www.gta5-mods.com/tools/carcols-ymt-converted-into-xml-format

by a guy who converted himself ymt to xml, but my game version is older than his so is there any other work around to edit original carcols.ymt please ?

Thank you very much.

I did this over the last couple days. I just need to fix the strobes on the vic and we're golden.

Just getting into messing with my carcols.ymt.

I came up with a super duper simple headlight flash pattern (shown here on Bxbugs123's awesome CVPI)

How do you vary the speed of the sequences though? I'd like to make the wigwagging faster than the four flashes together

Just pull your own carcols.ymt out of OpenIV and modify it. Worked for me...

make the lights you want to flash slower turn on for longer.

For example my light setup is a standard

1010 0000

0000 1010

but I have my wigwags flashing slower so I have them set as

1111 0000

0000 1111

you can see it a bit here, look at the rear indicators and the headlights

You can set individual sirens to be rotating or non-rotating and configure their speeds.

How would you go about setting the speeds of rotating lights? At the moment for my setting they're synced to my bpm, which is at 930 and causes them to stutter. If i turn down the bpm they work fine but I don't want to have it turned down  because it makes the LED's flash slower

Hmm. On a lower BPM (220) I can still see the lights flash. I'll see about doubling my BPM and fiddling with the patterns

EDIT: Done working on this for the night. Flashing lights give me a headache :)

Could someone kindly answer this question as I would also like to know how to separate rotating light speeds from the overall bpm speed that my Led patterns are set to.

I've been trying to get it working and haven't had any luck yet. Disabling the sync to bpm causes the siren to stutter really weirdly, and the delta and start I haven't been able to pinpoint exactly what they do yet. disabling direction I found causes the siren to rotate the opposite direction to normal, but that doesn't really help

I made a template for how siren1 (police/sheriff) is setup. This is how the sirens are setup in zmodeler so you can easily identify which sirens to change the sequences to get your desired patterns! I use it as a reference when Im making new patterns so maybe this will help others!

Do you have any more on this ? Perhaps for the police bike, and other vehicle slots ? This really helps.

If u tell me the vehicle u want a template of, I will go check it out and post a template for u!

Love modding! What else can I say? :)

I made one for policeb. Cant figure out the sirens in front of bike but Im gonna assume its left handlebar is siren7 and right handlebar is siren8. Left side front fender is siren9, and right side front fender is siren10

@Captain14

one question....

i got an idea...if we can decide at which moment the light/mesh will show up taht means we can make traffic screens like nypd that says ''Police stay back''

we just need to put it3 sirens right there for example and edit the pattern/sequencer plus bpm and make it say the three words at different moment but the texture at the same spot if you see what i mean.....this would be so cool :P

Would be something like this:

Siren (x_1) : "POLICE" : 111000000

Siren (x_2) : "STAY" : 000111000

Siren (x_3) : "BACK" : 000000111

this should be actually possible right?

this line will make the corona flash 360 degrees:

            <faceCamera value="true"/> instead of false

and use this line to improve the light size

            <size value="4.10000000"/>

still busy with testing further

Doesn't seem to help with making the environmental lighting work in all directions.
