Need help buying/building or upgrading a computer?

In store staff usually have no clue what they are selling, they know the specs listed on the in-store signs, so don't listen to them.

They are also trying to make a sale, so they will say almost anything they can in order to close the sale.

You can't upgrade laptops, graphics cards are usually embedded on the motherboard, the only really upgradeable parts on a laptop are the battery, the HDD and the RAM modules.

I doubt it will. If I told you my current PC can run GTAIV maxed out with an ENB with 100 FPS, would you believe me? I have a Radeon HD 4350, an AMD Phenom II 910 and 8gb of memory. Do you even know w

  • Is that even a PC? Regardless, can you post your specs please?

Aw hell naw. That thing will either blow up or implode when you play GTA.

It's unnecessary to have two 680's or a 690 for todays games anyway. OP unless you're running multiple monitors at resolutions upwards of 1080p. And depending on the Best Buy some of the employees are stupid or don't care. I've worked for them before. The guys at my store were usually pretty intelligent, and I was always brutally honest to parents who wanted to buy their kids a gaming PC but wanted a $330 laptop because the price was right. I can still remember some lady I talked to and the face she gave me when I told her that it was good for looking at MySpace or typing a letter and that's about it. I told her to buy an XBOX instead rather than waste her money on a computer that won't do anything.

A lot of PC loyalists wonder why consoles are so popular instead of PC's. That's why. $$$. Parents can usually shut their kids up for 5-7 years with a console and a few copies of Call of Duty for $3-400 plus games & controllers. PC's are more expensive to begin with (at first glance anyway) and they need updating on a semi-regular basis if you wish to have them play games at optimal performance and high detail levels. Anyway, I'm ranting now. As I said, good luck.

I thought I was going to buy it, cant afford it yet. And it is going to work, I know someone who has it and they even posted a LCPDFR video and they played it with no lag.

Okay. Im not trying to start a argument here. But actually yes I do know what those are. And the computer you told me to get is just way to expensive. The one im getting is only $600 and its a laptop and I have been trying to find a laptop that can run the game for a long time!

A pc to smoothly run this game is at least $800 put together, or about $4-500 if you order the parts and put it together yourself. Welcome to the forums btw

The upgrades I'm getting are a total of $340 and should run games for the next 4-5 years. It depends on what has to get. If he starts from scratch he needs a mb, case, everything but if he upgrades he needs less but depends on what he needs to upgrade.
