I Agree with Desmond here. I live in Southern Calif. and i only see these white along with mainly black and white FPUI's. Ive never actually seen a CVE version in my 20 years of living here. But it looks pretty cool!

The CVE explorers are really rare.  I think the west valley station only has one.

Okay so two questions, and sorry to anyone who's read the CVPI thread where I asked the same, do you have any plans to implement a steady burn like buggs put on his CVPI?

Secondly to you guys who know about CHP than me living across the pond, what do they use the red spotlight for as I just notice the driver side spot appears to be red?

The red spotlight is just kinda a leftover from back when CHP ran fox body mustangs for pursuit vehicles.  CHP wanted to go faster (by going lighter) and to reduce weight they decided to not to go all out with lights (because extra lights mean extra batteries etc.) and since CVC only required 1 forward facing red steady burn and the red spotlight was born.

I think you should have a couple of options for the CHP black & white:

  • ALPR (automatic license plate recognition) cameras mounted, see image for reference
  • full wrap around push bars, most have full wrap but some don't

On the all white one the red spotlight could be an option, but I've never seen any of those with red spotlights.

Sure, do I need do ALPR as an extra? all chp fpiu have this system?

full wrap around push bars - i think its updated setup, only 2014 chp fpiu have this, but i already make this

I live in Los Angeles and I really only see the CHP FPIU with the non-wrap around push bar. I've only seen 1 in the last 8 months that has had the wrap around bar. I remember reading somewhere that they usually only equip those kinds are bars on vehicles that are used to patrol rural areas, as they are mostly used for pushing debris off the road.

Also, every CHP FPIU I've ever seen has had ALPR scanners mounted on the roof. I even see them on a lot of the LAPD FPIU traffic units as well.

Here are some detailed photos that will hopefully help you.

All CHP vehicles have a pushbar, so the one on the right in your image wouldn't exist, unless it's used in the CHP academy. Some have the full wrap around, some just have the front pushbar. From what I read, the CHP originally bought them without the wrap-around, but after pursuits and PIT manouvres they damaged the front of the cars so they installed the wrap arounds to protect them. As Joeym said, in the city they all have ALPR, but outside of the main city, most CHP units won't have it. ALPR is useful in cities, but less useful on a highway, so it should be a removable extra, it's a good system but not all cars have them.

Also, the pictures provided by Joey are actually very good! All the antennas used on their FPUIs are there, so make sure to put them in as well, the CHP have a lot of antennas on all their vehicles.

A thing to remember when you're adding the antennas to the car is that only the "Low Band Main Radio" and maybe the "VHF Radio" antenna's are going to have that bobble/sway movement in real life. So if possible, I would recommend only adding the bobble effect to those main two antennas and leave the shorter ones stationary.

No pushbar, no bumper fog lights, only the factory stereo antenna, no mirror lights, wrong indicators and the wrong spotlight. That's not an actual CHP car, I'd say thats a demo model provided by Ford, perhaps for the media to see and test before the CHP announced their purchase of the Utility. That is definitely a demo version, no licence plate either.

This picture was most likely taken at the CHP training academy, which explains why it's lacking most of the standard patrol equipment such as push-bar, antennas, ALPR, etc.

With the LAPD (and most police/sheriff agencies) you will see that some vehicles have push-bars and some do not. The ones that have the push-bars are usually units that are assigned to traffic patrol, and the units that do not have push-bars are usually assigned to regular patrol.

As SeaHawk14 mentioned earlier, since the CHP's main role is to enforce traffic on the highways, you will very rarely find one that doesn't have some sort of push-bar. (Unless they forgot to install it lol)

No need to apologize!  Now that you point it out, that photo does actually look like photoshop (door handle, side mirror, door logo).

I think the TA needs to be yellower, it looks orange to me. Rest of the bar is excellent

From what I can tell is that Desmond doesn't have a light enhancer mod (Radiance V or something) so the lightbar looks more orange than it should be. However, if Radiance is installed, the lights may have a more realistic colour, but I could be wrong.

"Please, put it in park, will ya?" "LSPD, see the lights, pullover." "Stop the vehicle, we need to have a little chat!" "Get in the car and keep your mouth shut." "You have the right to absolutely nothing." "The damn gun is jammed!"
