Are Color-Coded Cops the Solution to Police Brutality?

So apparently designating officers by color will reduce police brutality.

i personally think that its a waste of time. racist cops were racist before donning the badge. Instead of blaming the cops for being racist, they should be focusing on the individual as the person not as a cop.

Changing how people are raised and educated is a long term more practical solution IMO.

This is absolutely ridiculous and prejudiced. Not only does it bear significant resemblance to segregation, it'll make simple police interactions take way longer than they should.

Same could be said for the offenders in this case. If all of Obama's sons were raised properly and had the finances to all be educated, the crime rate among these people would be a lot less and police would be focused on other things. And yes, i'm sure you have a couple of racist officers in the PD's all around your country, but be honest: Nowadays, all white officers are racists as soon as they approach a black person. White officer pulls over a black person after a traffic violation, people all over start shouting 'RACISM!'. The definition of racist and racism is being abused. All the time. The people are separating themselves instead of trying to make an effort to come together.

Btw no idea why i even bother, that Yahoo article is ridiculous as fuck.

Does this mean if I paint myself purple, I'll get a purple cop? Sounds like a good deal to me!

No seriously, whoever wrote this is a part of the problem themselves. This is like fighting fire with fire. Which is impossible. To what Sharp and ini said, yes, segregation. Where has that gotten us in the past?

we’d prefer people be allowed to choose inefficiency rather than to have the default be brutality

I suggest to take it one step further and  allow total customization for everyone. Who would you like to speak to today during your traffic stop? A hot 20-y-o girl from the police academy class, or a white sixty-y-o veteran, who loves rock and old cars?

I'll take the hot chick please, thanks!

This has got to be the most ridiculous thing I've read in a while, and I read some pretty ridiculous things every day. There doesn't need to be an explanation to understand why this won't work. A terrible idea, and I'm glad I've never heard of it before.

I think this is more of a cultural observation than a legitimate suggestion, guys. Its a ridiculous suggestion, and I think its supposed to be.

I think there's something to be said about strengthening community ties, but obviously not by "color-coding cops".

I've been a Yahoo user for a few years now, the writer is serious. These articles pop up all the time.

Whenever I look around school, I see people hanging out in groups. When I have noticed is that many of the black people hang out with other black people, and whites hang out with other whites. I'm not saying that they are rivals or hate each other. I am saying that we, as humans, naturally segregate into groups. Obviously, this is not always the case, but I have noticed it's a common occurrence. I'm not saying that I agree, nor disagree with this idea. I am kind of indifferent on the situation. But it would spark outrage if it was implemented and the public was informed.

Yeah, it tends to be that way. Our country more than others, because of our history.

Well I'll be damned. All black people are Obama's sons? What does that mean, that all white people are Bush's sons or Clinton's sons?

Seriously dude. How can anyone take what you say seriously after that?

Obama's son is a reference to a poorly educated, mostly underage, African-american male. The fact that you can't read that but automatically classify all black people in that category says more about your mindset then mine unfortunately. So unless you want to turn this into a flame war, i suggest you keep your racist comments to yourself.

I perfectly read what you said, thank you very much: you flag black people as poorly educated, mostly underage sons of Obama. Don't try to put the racist card on me, also, it's really pitiful and childish. Grow up and try to describe groups of people by real names and not by crappy metaphors, if you ever know what that means. Peace! <3

You misread it again. Poorly educated black kids are Obama's sons. <-- That is NOT every black person. Stop claiming that i'm saying that every black  person is poorly educated. So again, you are not properly reading and because of that, you are being racist by trying to put racist remarks in my mouth.

Seriously, go to bed. You are acting ridiculous.

Just want to go ahead and mention that I'm a black American, and you're absolutely right. We don't say what TheChef said here in America and if anyone said that in a black community here, they'd probably get beaten up. I've never heard of the reference "Obama's son". Whether it's meant to be offensive or not, I do see it as being a very ignorant statement.

You sir need to not read into the article too much. I'm surprised this article isn't on The Onion.

Notice how the author goes back against his original idea/suggestion in the last paragraph by saying "And, oh yeah: Three of the Baltimore cops involved in the death of Freddie Gray were African-American. So it’s not clear at all that racially representative police forces can fix the relationships."

Clearly the author is being facetious.

This video fits perfectly with this thread, and beautifully represents the absurdity of the notion that an individual of one ethnic background cannot possibly deal with an individual of another one in a fair, just manner.

I love you.
