How many different lightbars uses your local PD?

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

i wanna ask you, how many different lightbars uses your local PD, SO, CPD...

So, i'm from Germany and THE POLICE (yes, we've got only 1 police for the whole country) has mostly 2 different lightbars on their patrol vehicles. An older strobe- version and a newer LED- version.

In the US nearly every town or village has it's own police force. I wanna know about the US guys out there.

Like I said last year, the old Highway Patrol cars here had Federal Signal Vectors. I miss them so much, they looked well cool. I haven't seen a Highway Patrol car in years now though. As far as I can

My town uses only slicktops (lightbars are too expensive...).  We have two cruisers with a full front slicktiop lights and one with no front slicktop lights- just rambar lights.  Of the two cruisers with full slicktop lights in the front, one has a full set of lights on the top and bottom of the rear whereas the other uses three sets of ion-like lights.  Sorry for the description, there are no pictures to be found anywhere.

Quick question- can you actually see the lights well out there?  I feel like having 2-3 lights on top isn't enough...

All the light-bars used by the police here in Australia are made by Code 3. They vary from state to state, but I always see the MX7000 and 21TR in Western Australia. The older Highway Patrol vehicles were fitted with Federal Signal Vectors, but you never see them anymore.

What's interesting is that our paddy wagons actually have two light-bars on them. Usually an MX7000 at the front and a 21TR at the rear. The newer, high visibility cars, are also fitted with ANPRs.

Our PD uses two different lightbars in Finland. But if we talk about every Finnish police vehicle, then there are 3-5 lightbars(?). We also have one police force.

Finland, the country I love, the country I would die for.

Not sure of the name of lightbar (I can't ID them by name like many of you guys) but the average lightbar is this first car, but then i often see "ghost" and slicktop units alot. On one of my many ride-a-longs i found out that the ghost units, being those with the white/grey logo and lettering are owned by Homeland Security and function as my counties SWAT team.

In Finland, we only have marked and un-marked police vehicles. No slicktops.

Well In Dubai we got many cars so yeah I'm going to post pictures

You know what.. I;m so lazy to post pictures just search " Dubai Police " And you will find some epic rides

Here are the vehicles you would find

Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4, a Ferrari FF, a Chevrolet Camaro SS, a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, a Bentley Continental GT, a limited edition Aston Martin One-77, a Ford Mustang GT, a BMW M6 Gran Coupé, a Brabus G63 AMG, a Lykan Hypersport, a Bugatti Veyron, an Audi R8, a Nissan GT-R, a Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG, a McLaren MP4-12C, a Hummer H3, a Lexus GS, a Lexus RC F, a Toyota Land Cruiser, a BMW i8 and a GMC Sierra

These are our new Highway Patrol vehicles. From what I've seen, they all use the same lightbars but I have no idea what they are exactly. As you can see, we're right in the middle of snow season right now. Enjoy!

In Los Angeles, it's mainly overridden with these Arjent things.

I can't say I like them, but you get used to them overtime. Occasionally you'll see one of these beautiful pieces of work.

LAPD is the only police dept. I can think of in California that still has a few of these on their fleets, but I'm sure there's that one odd LASD cruiser fitted with one. (Not including Volunteer vehicles)

You see them on almost every single LA Co. Fire Engine in the entire region, though.

Well, the LED's are pretty bright. Esspecially in the night. And our streets are tiny in relation to the average US streets. So, you've got a closer distance and don't have to look so far. But sometimes i wish the police cruisers have some LED's in the rear window. Some have grille lights. But our ambulances are great.

Same in Germany. I think it's a typical american thing. Marked and unmarked yes. Slicktop are not allowed. I think in Europe in general.

The Michigan State Police want a word with you:

You don't actually need to light a car up like a Christmas tree to be seen.

Here in London, England the Metropolitan Police use so many lightbars so here are some of the main ones and some photos to give with them. The Met at the moment is buying new cars every year. For example since the newest plate (15) which started back in March we have got two different models of trial IRVs (standard response vehicles), new bomb cars (Counter terrorism patrols), new parks police vehicles, new public order vans, new station vans, new officer carriers, two new traffic cars, new area cars (high performance response vehicles) and the list goes on as the Met continue to buy more!

Anyway back to the lightbars we use.

Premier Hazard Sovereign (Clear & blue lens)

Currently the newest lightbar fitted to most of the new fleet since about the time we changed livery. Blue lens ones are fitted to standard response vehicles like the 2013 Ford Focus Estates, 2012 Hyundai i30 etc.. Whereas the clear lens is fitted to the specialist units like traffic, firearms etc.. Which use vehicles like BMW 5 Series Touring (E61 & F11), Volvo V70 and BMW X5.

Whelen Liberty

This bar is hardly fitted to new vehicles and is now a rare sight. Most commonly used on airport vehicles for Heathrow. It was fitted to older Volvo V70, Mitsubishi Shogun and let's not forgot the most loved and iconic BMW 5 Series E60 and E61!

Premier Hazard Maxim (Halogen & Strobe)

Very famous lightbar used on many of the old cars that come up when searching Met police into Google. Used on vehicles like the older BMW 5 Series E60, Vauxhall Omega and so on.

Whelen Edge (Strobe)

Used on some of the older traffic fleet still but it set to be replaced very soon! Vehicles fitted to include older BMW 5 Series E61, Shoguns etc..

Whelen Ultra Freedom

Was used after strobes were replaced by LEDs. Before modern slimmer light bars were introduced and began being used across the Met's fleet. Used on similar vehicles as the Whelen Edge including BMW 5 Series E61s and Shoguns.

Premier Hazard Lomax (Mini)

Used mainly on the modern station van fleet! Including the Ford Transit and now also the Ford Transit Customs which have only just been used!

I'm sure there is some I've missed but you should get a feel for the vast array of lightbars the Met uses! Please ignore any obvious mistakes it's half 4 in the morning here!
