LSPDFR 0.2 Update - 12 July

So R* attacks the thing that keeps their games alive and results in better sales. Seems like an amazing sale tactic to me, let's face it if it wasn't for mods I'd stick with my GTA copy on the 360 and so would a bunch of other people who own consoles as well as PCs. There are still tons of mods for GTA IV despite it being 7 years old and R* should realise that without the dedicated community of modders GTA would not live long.

That's a bold statement to make when Rockstar's initial release back when the game was only available to Console's hit record high's. They made a whopping $1 billion dollars by the end of the first week and $800 million on the very first day. By the end of the year they nearly reached $2 billion, and I can only assume once the PC version hit that they went over that amount by half. I don't disagree in that Rockstar should allow mods to be more free and accessible, perhaps mod tools - but Rockstar on the other hand is one of the few companies where people like their solid foundation of the game. They typically always deliver in making a solid all around product, in which for this I don't think mods in that respect would affect sales for them too much, if at all.

GTA has always had a solid crowd behind it, regardless of the fact that the mass media and countless "anti-violence" protesters attempted to derail their franchise and all around train, this is even more true before Multiplayer gaming became a central focus in the industry. When Call Of Duty hit, that took GTA off of its pedestal for being one of, if not the most popular game out there (regardless of genre differences), up until this point Call Of Duty kept nailing record high's, over and over. Up until now, GTA V retook its pedestal, they took Activision and effectively thrown them off of it. However now the meat and bones is based around Rockstar's Online component, although the Single Player is still a very well designed part of the game. In other words, people before 'mods' became a huge trend in the industry (both for Singe Player and Multiplayer), enjoyed the 'vanilla' part of GTA regardless if it had a fancy Police system/mod in it, mostly because the game was not built in mind of actually being a cop, it was built with the free roaming, do anything, do everything you wouldn't otherwise be able to do in any other game or, alternatively, real life.

  • Sam, you and the whole team are just amazing. There's no need to apologize considering how hard you all are working to fix this issue.   Great work.

So it seems like we won't be seeing LSPDFR today
All I can do is slowly suffer in silence just like the rest of you.

God I hope so, I know you and many others have so many ideas, Its going to EXPLODE if we get API.

Im Retired. But that may change..

Rockstar should adapt like Wildcard Studios, makers of Ark Survival evolved. They released their dev kit with entire source code and this game can be played single player, on official servers (unmodded) or on private unofficial servers, mods allowed. There's no reason everyone can't win. Rockstar is just too cheap to host their own servers. If they'd do that, all of this would sort itself. Just my 2 cents.

It's Take Two that makes that decision not R*.
And if they were to do that they would have trouble making money off of the shark cards.

Just as a quick update, we're doing our best to continue to fix things up.  The main cause of the performance issues was resolved earlier today, although there's still one problem which is resulting in script crashes.

There's a good side to this delay as well though - we've been able to polish things up somewhat and even add in some little details that weren't going to make the original release.

Sounds good, thanks again for the frequent updates Sam.

Good job!

If one problem got solved, then the other problem should also be solveable! Good job Sam and the team!

I'm so daaamn nutty!

One day Rockstar is going to remove all mods from their game and see its followers and its players fall off its popularity chart and its funds for future Grand Theft Auto making will be completely gone.

Anyone want to protest Rockstar?

therehave been petitions..idk if id help though since they "support single player mods"

They already make record sales with the console version which doesn't support modding... So I'm sorry for you, but even if they remove completely the possibility to mod this game... They will make continue to make a lot of money, you like it or not... There is way more people playing this game and don't care about modding... We are a minority here...

But hey, I'm like everybody here... I play GTA 5 because of the mods on it... Same reason I'm still playing Skyrim, Fallout and all other modeable games!
