Officer tells dying unarmed man "fuck your breath"

Featured Replies

I've seen that on the news here in France (with a better quality video). What I don't understand is why an old man was still serving along the police department, how he managed to mistake his weapon with his taser (which are shaped differently, with different colors and different weights), why no one tried to rescue the suspect who was on the ground bleeding to death, why no officer tried to help him survive (that's part of their job too), and why they actually participated in his death (because yes, the suspect died afterwards). That makes no sense, all the officers involved here are at fault for what happened. And that old man who managed to mistake his pistol with his taser... Wish I could shove his taser up his ass so he'd finally make the different between the two.

Don't be surprised if something bad happens if you run from the cops. It didn't have to end in his death, but the perp put himself in that situation.

Is there any old men at all? One cop is 24, another one is 38. No one is supposed to be that dumb to mistake a gun for a taser. Apparently, they are not taught in their academy that they are supposed to protect, not to kill. Hey man, you have two thing on your belt, they have different name, but don't care too much about it.

The man who mistook his taser with his gun is 73 years old. I let you imagine the danger it is for everyone.

When my bad. I really didn't believe that a reserve 70-year-old officer may even have anything besides his baton and radio, so I thought it was that young guy.

Doesn't matter that the guy was a criminal and on the run. If you are a cop, you have enormous responsibility. If you have a gun, this responsibility doubles. If you want to get a taser, you go for a taser. If you can't feel the difference - get the fuck out of this job and go home.

He shouldn't have ran but as you said that's not a death sentence. The reserve deputy is being charged with manslaughter, and rightfully so.

But what sickens me is how the real deputies treated a man in what ended up being the last hour of his life. Truly despicable, like he's not even a human being.

They weren't aware he was shot as far as I know. So, I think thats why they did that.

This is the best example of "play stupid games, win stupid prizes". Next time don't run.

Let me go jump into the street and then blame the car driver that hit me. Don't do something stupid and you won't end up getting hurt. Hopefully everyone is alright though, didn't read the entire article.

Good analogy. If I walk into the street in plain view of a car driver, with plenty of room for them to stop, and they hit me, then they are absolutely blameworthy (and would go to prison for homicide, because a driver has an obligation to not kill pedestrians, and the only way it's excusable is if the driver is taking all precautions they should be taking -- that includes looking at the road and slamming on the brake if you'd otherwise hit someone). If (to take a better analogy to here) they specifically swerve to run me over, that's even more blameworthy. Police officers have guns for only one reason: to stop someone from killing others. If you run from cops, you should not expect them to kill you. Police aren't allowed to kill you because you're running from them, unless they know or have a good reason to believe that you have committed a crime so serious that if you escape you will kill someone in the future and there is no other option to stop you from escaping. Unless they're arresting you for a violent felony, or for something like stealing a nuclear bomb, they are simply not allowed to shoot you for running. So no, the fact that the victim ran doesn't provide any sort of excuse to the cops, because running doesn't give them any more right to open fire than taunting them does.

You missed the point but that's okay.

Are you kidding? They all heard the gun go off, the deputy that shot him drops the gun, which is picked up by another deputy, and says "I shot him, I'm sorry!". Then when theyre pinning him down hes screaming "You shot me! You shot me! I'm losing my breath!" to which the deputy replies "Fuck your breath".

Either they knew he was shot, or they are deaf.

Did you not read where they say the other officers did not hear the shot?

Cops would never lie, right...? I understand that your father is a cop, and I'm sure he's a great guy. But not all cops are great people. They're human beings, they also lie.

I didn't say they didn't lie, but I fully believe they didn't hear it in all of the commotion. IE Yelling, Screaming, ETC ETC. The weapon isn't very loud. (From the sounds of the video) its not like a glock.

Here's the one thing I wanna know about the entire incident. When the Washington post reported on this incident, they included one line that was absolutely unnecessary. "and a white reserve deputy sheriff shot and killed an unarmed black man, apparently by accident." Why does it matter if the cop was white and the criminal was black? Would they have also put that exactly the same if it was the other way around? (i.e. and a black reserve deputy sheriff shot and killed an unarmed white  man, apparently by accident." No, they wouldn't. This is the kind of shitty reporting that causes things like the murders of two NYPD officers while they sat in their car. Yea, this shouldn't have happened. If you don't know the difference between a gun and a taser, go home. In my eyes, reserve deputies do not "play cop." They are police officers just like a paid deputy. Same training, same risk. So to say things like "real deputies," makes you look ignorant and disrespectful. A reserve deputy serves and can also die just like any other deputy out there. This happened about 1 1/2 years ago out here in Oregon City http://www.opb.org/news/article/oregon-city-reserve-officer-dies-/. It's the heat of the moment, adrenaline pumping, things go wrong.

I'm glad they are holding him accountable, but also then again, if the suspect doesn't run from them, all this never happens.  So the blame falls both ways on this one. Just another unfortunate event in the ongoing battle between law enforcement and the public.

If you use any of my skins in a YouTube video, please let me know. I would love to see it. output_hzFinh_zps2w8whjkq.gif
