Modding and V

To counter the amount of threads being created and PM/mails I receive, let me share what I know so far.

I was able to inject into the game's scripting engine, so invoking native functions (scripting functions) works fine. Took less time than I had assumed actually. A simple video showing off one single native.

While this is good news, the bad news is all natives are hashed/whatsoever with 8 byte keys. I have found a way to match names and keys, but it will take some time.

About files: I haven't looked into .rpf yet and it's not a priority for me, others will do that for sure though.

I know im probably going to sound dumb asking this and it might have been asked and/or answers before but based on what you see in the scripting engine do you think we will be able to eventually have the mod community catch up to the same level of modding ability or higher in GTA:V?

@LMS - I have basic programming knowledge/logic. If identifying these natives is some sort of repetitive task of trial and error I am willing to help if you can instruct me on how to do so. As far as I can see the more people who can help the quicker the modding community can take off.

If you guys actually read that thread there, you will realize modding isn't that near yet. They can read the RPF but cannot edit them. The encryption key can also likely be changed with a random update forced on by rockstar rendering the whole thing obsolete. There are ways to manage that but that's if that occurs after editing key has been broken to begin with.

The game also uses update packs to supersede game files so modding will require that update pack itself is modded or overridden. So you might have to mod 2 things to actually get content in game.

The biggest concern right now is rockstar forcing constant updates disabling any progress. This will result in a GTA4 0.4 vs 0.7 patch fiasco where some people stopped updating past 04 since 07 patch broke a lot. Time will tell.

On the upside, the game is really stable so looks like the engine can take some modding abuse

This game has been out for not even 3 days and people have already modded it.

it is amazing isn't it?

Also, anyone have any updates on a potential LSPDFR? I read somewhere that LCPDFR devs were talking about (and planning to) bring the mod to GTA 5. Before any of you say this, yes I DO realize it is a massive undertaking and I am not rushing them by any means, just wondering if it is happening period.

For that to happen game needs to be

1. editable. that means packing/unpacking/repacking/ the rpf files and any contained independently encrypted files

2. hook to the main exe with full control

3. known list of calls to game engine aka natives. lms said they appear to either be encrypted or masked with random hex for fucks know what reason. so somebody either needs to trial and error map them or pull the list from somewhere.

once these 3 are present, you can actually start modding the game. so... its all dependent on the speed it gets achieved with.

some people have already gotten mods out for it so they must have cracked at least some of the code.

I think it's quite obvious that everyone is working very hard to make sure that this could become a possibility, but that doesn't mean it's going to happen. This is just my personal opinion, not an official statement.

Well I certainly hope it does ;-)

To be totally frank I really hope GTA V is not moddable because I really enjoy playing online with my buddy and we enjoy the GTA V online not some modded up police version. Unlike GTA IV if you attempt to join a regular multiplier game it's not even feasible. GTA V was created for the online experience that they intended it to be and they did a very good job at, I for one do not wish to see that ruined. I'm totally cool with sticking to my GTA IV for my LCPD:FR mods that crash every 20 minutes of game play for when I am in the mood to pretend to be a cop; something that gets old real quick when your a police academy major and notice that GTA IV LCPD:FR is really just a traffic stop and approach simulator. On that note I'll stand by my guns for defending Rockstar and hope that if and when mods come out for this game they stay on top of it to either A) keep it far far away from my multiplayer experience or B) Let the people who want to mod the game rent their own servers to run it on. Rant over.

Totally disagree, i Believe LCPDFR version for GTA 5  would be more than what you call a traffic stop simulator as i think GTA 5 has a lot more potential and i would love to see LCPDFR for gta 5 in single player, plus not everyone like yourself plays LCPDFR and crashes every 20 mins, but i do agree about heading it in the direction away from your multiplayer experience with friends.

I saw a video recently of a guy molding the 360 saves, where he was able to play as chop and he had a list of character keys and there name counterparts hopefully those keys carry over. It might get some modders somewhere. I was going to download it as soon as I get the chance. To see if it's a good list.

Would we able to convert the script mods from IV to V? Despite them having the same engine I can't imagine this happening seen as V has a more updated rage engine but I could be wrong here.
