GTA V Might not support mods.

Featured Replies

Hey guys! Gamespot did a review with Rockstar North/Rockstar Games and asked them tons of questions. One of them was this:

Modding took off for GTA IV PC. What are you doing to support modding for V? Is there anything within the game that supports it?

Rockstar Games: Since GTA Online has such a massive and vibrant community, our primary focus is making sure that nothing detracts from that experience or has a negative impact on the overall community of players.

Tell me what you think this means and how you fell about this.

They said that mods will be supported in singleplayer, but not GTA online for obvious reasons

Yeah, Online would be a hit, if everyone used mods, then it would get fucked. Sadly, I guess LCPDFR will have to be a single player thing, until some genious finds a solution. Remember, rockstar doesnt give two shits about the LCPDFR community. There is like what, 50,000 people here? Pfft. They care about the vast majority of people that like the GTA Series for how it is meant to be played.

Rockstars are group of people that want to get paid. Of course we will play GTAIV with mods/scripts in MP and SP in the near future. YOU WAIT AND SEE

I never listen on what Rockstar says about it as I know it CAN be done. Never Say I CAN"T

GTA IV never "supported" modding, but development of scripthooks and resource modification allowed for GTA IV modding to become as developed and diverse as it is now. It's likely simple modifications, such as modeling and spawning objects will work, but complex scripts (like "LSPDFR") will take more time.  Our modern LCPDFR relies on scripthooks that were developed for GTA IV, but "LSPDFR" may be able to function without dependencies.  Of course, no one knows untill GTA V comes out.

says nothing about not supporting mods I wouldn't worry about

True dat. I preloaded gta v and it asked me if i wanted to play gta online or gta singleplayer which means there must be diffrent games and you might not be able to have clans and play with friends with mods. Only if GTA Online and GTA Singleplayer are seperate games.

Interestingly, R* does consider them to be seperate games.  It's possible that with the release of the pc version, they may be designed differently as well.

It makes sence that it would be seperate games because they did spend 5 years working on GTA V

Taking 5 years as they made the map 50% bigger, that means it would of taking 1 year just make texuters for it's peds buildings and so on

Why do we keep getting these threads? A thread about THE SAME TOPIC opened up like two days ago! Release is less than 47+ hours away guys, relax. Then we can really find out.

There's no doubt that within the first few days of the PC release, there will be glitching galore. Hacking will be 10x easier than on consoles, and Rockstar will have their work set out for them to nick all of those vulnerabilities.

I'm not worrying about modding support. I think they'll have some way to allow mods for regular SP and some other way to severely limit them in Online.

Yeah, but that's for X360, not necessarily an indicator that it'll be available for PC too, but a decent start.

Well, it just shows the game can be injected with code at a base level. I can see the need for Scripthooks if the game doesn't support it out of the box tho.
