I'm glad we have a stockpile over here. L.A.P.D. barely retired a 97 Vic a couple years back which OriginalLight noted a picture to me, which I later found out about. At least I don't have to see the

  • Sup with the rims on that Charger next to the Vic? are those Caravan rims? lol

  • KHP started putting those rims on the later 2014 model chargers

Some departments sell them before 50K so they can:

1. Get rid of it before the warranty expires.
2. They can sell them for much more money.
3. They're getting rid of it before possible major mechanical problems occur.

It may seem wasteful, but it makes perfect sense economically. If anything, it saves more taxpayer money than running the vehicles into the ground, having expensive repair work performed on them, and only selling them for 2K when they're done since there's no life left. In addition, it provides departments with lower budgets with solid vehicles if they can't afford brand new ones.

I'm not sure if the KHP has take home vehicles. If they're not take homes, but rather pool cars, it may be another reason to sell them earlier since pool cars generally last half the life of a take home. Additionally, the car may only have 49,000 miles, but it could have 100K in idling. 1 hour of idling = 33 miles of wear and tear according to Ford, therefore 3000 hours =  99,000 miles. So 99,000 miles in idling + 49,000 driven miles = 148K in total on the engine. 150K is a fair amount of wear and tear, especially for a police vehicle that responds to life or death situations in which 1 second can make a difference.

In my town we have 2 cop cars both 03 Crown Vics ith 150K miles on both... I don't know why the second on has that many miles considering it's used by the school's SRO. (We are very underfunded. When the PD wanted to get a Taurus the Mayor said NO!)

My guess would be, that your town bought the CV used from another department or the Schools SRO likes to drive a lot off duty, which a lot of Indiana State officers do, gets them a new car sooner.

im sure at some poin they will brig it back just like they did caprice and the impala

The new versions of both of those cars are terrible. And the new Dodge Charger was an insult to the legacy made by the original from the 60's when it debuted several years ago, and it still is. One of the best things Ford had done in the last 20 years was to kill off the Taurus. It was a bland, over-sized, slow car. And they brought it after basically re-styling the Ford Fusion and gave it to the police and civilians who refused to buy clearly superior cars from another country. It looks better these days, but they should have developed an entirely new car instead. Sneak peak of the new 2020 Ford Interceptor that's TOTALLY NOT BASED OFF THE FORD TAURUS!:

It's sad that the CVPI has been canceled. It's been 4 years now.

Why wont ford understand that you cannot kill of an modern classic?

Yes, the fuel/mile sucks, is handles like a boat, weighs more then a blue whale, but it's a damn sturdy car.

Modern plastic-japanese styled- Taurus Interceptors can fuck off.

Whenever I can, I will buy a CVPI. If there is no for sale here, I am importing one from the USA or Canada. It may be expensive but I'll do anything for a CVPI. Or atleast a car built on Panther platform, so maybe a Lincoln or a Grand Marquise.

Why wont ford understand that you cannot kill of an modern classic?

Because no car company understands it, not just Ford. Ask GM/Chevrolet why they killed off the Camaro and the Pontiac GTO, only to bring both back later. Or why Toyota did it to the Supra. Or why Dodge did it to the Charger or the Durango, or the Challenger. I could go on and on. They go and do what they do based off sales numbers. And while those are important, I don't think these car executives truly understand why sales go down when they do. The Camaro as an example is a very cool car. But during the early 2000's, it wasn't exciting anymore. It didn't capture peoples attention or imagination, and nothing made it stand out over the Mustang or the Pontiac Firebird. They needed to re-invent the Camaro rather than do small upgrades every year to a car people were bored with. Sadly, it took them years to figure that out. But when they did; the Camaro came back with vengeance.

A whole new body shape that was more aggressive and similar to the original classic from the 60's & 70's, louder paint jobs as standard, and an entirely new engine. A Corvette engine, at that. Car companies need to go beyond small innovations. They need to re-invent the wheel every once in a while instead of becoming complacent. Excitement, interest and innovation drives sales.
