California University Bans American Flag

Actually, it is a bit important with identity. Showing you are from here or there, but people take it too extremely IMO. It's stupid how others try and boast about how better they are than you or rub it in your face, when you really don't give a damn. I don't run around waving the U.S Flag. Not even for my home country Germany am I patriotic. It's just stupid. Not saying that patriotism is a bad thing. It's a good way for some people to boost morale for themselves and others, but not when they do it to show off. That's just pure annoying and stupid.

Makes people look like nuts IMO.

I will continue to fly my flag out front, and I will wear my patriotic shirts.

which is why I said that he'd probably be beaten here in America. American patriots don't go for that type of disrespect, and I'd be the one doing the beating if I witnessed someone so disrespectful.

If you are going to beat someone up over an opinion they have then you are not someone I want representing my country.

"Work and ideas get stolen, then you keep moving on doing your thing."

I'm serious, no offense intended. It's just history.

No. What you're suggesting is that because of our past, we are not "free".

Well then, let's look at the statistics for "freedom" shall we? Oh look, America isn't even in the top five. Oh, what's this? Australia is ranked as being more "free" than the US in terms of economics? Oh, oh dear indeed. It would seem that I have more freedom than those from the so called "land of freedom", how ironic.

Also, your remark about my coffee being "fucked up" because "I wasn't an American" just makes you look like a complete arrogant asshole.

That's a bit funny to read considering the US are the second most polluting country in the whole world, just behind China (and were the first most polluting country prior 2007). If you want to respect your flag that much, respect also your country and its nature. Just wanted to throw that here.

On topic, everyone is free to be as patriotic as they want, but as it has been said, shoving it into other people's throats, rubbing it over others' faces or simply bragging about it just to make it so you look like the best (even though you obviously aren't) is wrong. Besides, the comment about the flag being a piece of cloth is true. Seriously, it's an object, if you tie your ENTIRE respect for your country to the flag, you're a bit silly. I mean, I can have respect for my country and not give two sh*ts about the flag, it's just a symbole amongst many, many others.

Okay, so what ahould we do? Should people who have jobs far away walk 2 hours every day instead of drive? Should we stop all of our factories for running and just import ALL of our goods from other countries? No. When I look outside, I see no trash, clear skies, and the beauty of nature. I don't see smog, piles of trash and oil spills everywhere. Either way, I am not one of those huggers or gullible peoploe who actually believes that humans cause global warming. The planet can take care of itself.

The flag is a representation of the past, both good and bad. It represnts who we are and what the American people have been through together. We have reasons to be proud of who we are. As for your statement "even though you obviously aren't" is clearly an opinion, and you are allowed to think that. The flag to us is not "just a piece of cloth". Us Americans are patriotic people, and I don't know why people are so offended by it. You have just as much Freedom to be patriotic yourself, but it's your choice to be.

The planet can take care of itself.

It most probably can. But the planet isn't the problem. While the planet will most likely survive for several other thousands of years, we might not.

Nope, that's not what I'm suggesting at all. And because you're completely mistaken on what I was implying, I see no need to even read the rest of your rant. Also, you mean nothing to me. Your opinion is lower than the dog shit under my boot. Why? Because I don't know you, thank god. I don't have a clue who you are. What you say about me is meaningless.

If you are going to beat someone up over an opinion they have then you are not someone I want representing my country.

Then we should dissolve the entire American military, or you could always leave. Every veteran I know would be highly highly HIGHLY a offended at what Illusionary said. Me beating him up is a personal decision that I would make. It's also hard to respect such an ignorant and closed minded opinion such as that. If we were to swap circumstances here, this is my opinion of the Australian flag.

It rips off the flag of the UK.

That's an ignorant and stupid opinion. Hardly an opinion at all, this is how I view Illusinary's opinion. If you have a problem with me representing America, get over it. I do, and the only time I ever hear that I don't represent it well is here on LCPDFR.com.

I'll just address this particular issue and then close the bracket on my end since it's not the topic. It's a proven fact (proven as in demonstrated by every single organization world wide) that the US are the second most polluting country in the world. Not because of your cars, planes, or things like that, every country has those, but for example because of your coal powerplants (which is the most polluting energy production), gas leaked by pipelines as well as your exploitation of shale gas which is forbidden in most countries because highly polluting and nocive to fauna and flora. Those three are just a little examples of the many reasons why the US are polluting so much. I'm not a tree hugger either, but I am conscious that human is responsible for many problems. While majority of the countries accepted to sign the treaties to limit our polluting activity to reduce our impact on nature degradation, US (along with China, how peculiar) refused to sign up, for no reason, participating in ruining the world ecosystem. If you think the planet can take care of itself, you are totally, -totally- wrong, and that's not an opinion but a fact. US government, politics and citizens could decide to change those and for example to go for less polluting ways to produce electricity, energy or fuel, but they don't want to, which is a selfish behavior (another thing that makes other countries hate on you, quite fairly).

That's why I think it's a bit funny to see you quote Roosevelt about nature and all when you are actually disrespecting it on many, if not all levels.

The US is built on freedom. That means you are free to have whatever opinion you want. By saying you are patriotic, then turning around and saying that you would beat someone up because you disagree with their opinion is hypocritical. "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." You can think what you want of Illusionary and his opinion, but resorting to violence because of it should be completely unacceptable by anyone's standard.

...did you not read anything that Illusionary typed. You can't respect an opinion like that. I'm willing to fight and die for the rights that we have as Americans, but Illusionary isn't an American. I don't appreciate some foreigner talking shit about US culture and heritage. He clearly doesn't know what the US flag stands for.

What are you going to do? Leave America? You're the last person I'd ever expect to leave the country.

Hell no. I have my ways though.

So what you are saying is that if it was an American with that opinion, you wouldn't care? The Constitution gives Americans the rights that any human should have, just because our law only applies to us doesn't mean the general rights shouldn't apply to everyone.

Wait CriminalKillaz, you know thats ILLEGAL right? It doesn't matter what your reasons are for doing it, its ILLEGAL. I thought you were against doing things that were ILLEGAL? Its against the LAW.
