California University Bans American Flag

Featured Replies

Symbolically, our flag represents our struggles, rights, and integrity .In the end though, it is still a piece of cloth.I support carrying the flag, waving the flag, burning the flag, you name it, as long as no one harms anyone else as a result.

It does represent this, and yes it is a piece of cloth. I'm not saying that the flag is some sort of supernatural being. I'm saying that the flag represents America, and the American people, and our history and our culture.

You're absolutely right, but you should not assume that someone who says the flag is just a piece of cloth is an ignorant fool and even if he is ignorant, he is entitled to his opinion. Don't get me wrong, I am against this "no-flag" resolution. The meaning of the flag is up to interpretation by everyone.

Right again. But what I don't appreciate is when someone who doesn't live in the United States, and clearly has never been to the United States either, judges the entirety of our country based on their current, minimal knowledge. The comment was also left with a hint of sarcasm, as though the US flag means absolutely nothing, and should just be thrown into the trash and spat on. I also don't appreciate that either, which is why I said that he'd probably be beaten here in America. American patriots don't go for that type of disrespect, and I'd be the one doing the beating if I witnessed someone so disrespectful.

So? He has a right to speak his honest mind. I fully understand dedication to the American flag as it is a symbol to the nation. However, he has a right to free speech, so he can criticize many types of issues. You have the right to do the same thing as well. What we all agree on in these articles is that this proposal to ban any flag is against our First Amendment rights of freedom of expression.

Nope. Our country was built by those who came to seek freedom, work, and make a living. Illegal immigrants haven't contributed a damned thing to American society. I support immigration, I don't support illegal immigration. To support illegal immigration makes no logical sense. What part of ILLEGAL do you not understand? Seriously? They are ILLEGAL. ILLEGAL. ILLEGAL. What part of that word do you not understand? ILLEGAL. It's against the LAW. The LAW. The LAW. Doesn't matter if you think it's a good thing, it's ILLEGAL, ILLEGAL, ILLEGAL.

Maybe saying the word 5 times will help you comprehend it. They are ILLEGAL immigrants. ILLEGAL immigrants did not build this country.

Edit: You also clearly don't understand what that passage even means. It means that America welcomes those who come to seek a better life. Those who come to work, who come for freedom. It doesn't welcome those who hop the border and want everything for free. If you want to come into America, no problem. Just do it the RIGHT way, don't try to manipulate the system.

I don't even think you understand WHY people are immigrating illegally. How many illegal immigrants have you talked to?

How can a flag even be offensive? I mean, if that's a flag with bold letters saying "immigrants go home" that does hurt. A flag itself - of any nation - can do no bad.

Well, at least all normal people are warned now. Be careful while visiting California, you might get banned.

It doesn't matter WHY people are immigrating illegally, it's the fact that it's ILLEGAL. It's not the people I have a problem with, it's the philosophy and concept. We have rules, and those rules need to be followed. Remember the good ole' "Rule of Law"? Where no one is above the law? Well, why are we treating illegal aliens like they're above the law? The law strictly states, NO ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION. So why do we welcome illegal immigrants?

OK, sure.

I'm curious, how do you feel about Cliven Bundy?

You should probably know the definition of racism before you make a racist claim. Just another use of the race card by liberals. Again, not surprising.
At this point you aren't even providing clear or accurate evidence or claims that support the absolutely ridiculous, might I add, point that illegal immigration is a good thing. Arguing with a liberal is like arguing with a wall, and that's what this argument has come to. If you have nothing more valuable to bring to the table, then why are you still holding on to this argument?

That definition isn't really helping your case bro.

You avoided my question. How do you feel about Cliven Bundy?

I provided the definition because you don't have a clue what racism means. You're just playing the race card because you have no other cards to play. The US welcomes LEGAL immigrants of all races and ethnicities from all over the world who have gone through the legal immigration process. This is not only a bad argument, it's an attempt to create a racial hatred and division, and this is why America can't get past the civil equality phase of progression.

You avoided my past five arguments. Cliven Bundy is irrelevant to the immigration process. He's just some racist right-wing extremist who doesn't know a thing about anything.

It's important for everyone to calm down with their patriotism and try to understand some of the details. This decision was made my student representatives who voted to take down the flags of all nations in an "inclusive space" where all students are supposed to feel welcomed. This is how democracy works sometimes, it doesn't always produce great results.

What is infinitely more disturbing than this decision is that right-wing groups all across the country are using the flag as a symbol of their hatred.

So cut the bullshit and stop soiling the flag with the most un-American views possible.

Oh, I'm sorry that we don't want illegal aliens in our country. Lets just open the borders and let them all in! Are illegal aliens not a problem in your eyes? Because to me, they are. I don't mind legally entering a country, but I have no sympathy for illegal aliens.

I'll have you know that I have been to the United States, thank you. Your coffee was fucking dreadful.

I'm not basing nor judging "the entirety of your country" on anything. I'm simply stating that your flag is nothing more than a piece of cloth, just like every other bloody flag in the world.

They should just do this.

So when any business hangs a flag, do they have to hang every flag of every nation? Because the flag I fly in my front yard is one flag. And if someone is offended by it, they'll have to rip it down.

No offense, but I think they may have fucked up your coffee on purpose because you weren't American lol. Just saying sweetheart haha.

Nope. Every flag for every country represents something different. Maybe not for Australia because of its history, again, no offense intended. The US flag just happens to represent freedom, and this is what the rest of the world has some sort of problem with. Oh well, life moves on.

It's a piece of material with shapes and colours on it. It doesn't identify you, nor should you identify yourself with it.

Actually, it is a bit important with identity. Showing you are from here or there, but people take it too extremely IMO. It's stupid how others try and boast about how better they are than you or rub it in your face, when you really don't give a damn. I don't run around waving the U.S Flag. Not even for my home country Germany am I patriotic. It's just stupid. Not saying that patriotism is a bad thing. It's a good way for some people to boost morale for themselves and others, but not when they do it to show off. That's just pure annoying and stupid.

Makes people look like nuts IMO.
