Anonymous Targets ISIS: "You are a virus; we are the cure"

Featured Replies

I thought that this was a very interesting news article. At the request of the community, I will write out what the article says in my own words! :)

About a month ago, the hacker group named Anonymous vowed to oppose terrorism, and afterwards took down one of their sites. (Which I will not link) Anonymous claims that this is only an initial attack on the terror group known as ISIS, and say they have plans for future attacks. Anonymous has been targeting Facebook and Twitter accounts of the Islamic State to further reduce its chances of expanding. Anonymous also posted a video saying that people of all races, colors, countries, and religions are participating in the attacks on ISIS. "United as one, divided by zero", is supposedly their slogan. Below is their video:

Anonymous actually started their operation after the terrorist attacks in France. Since their first goal is to defend the freedom of speech, the attack on a newspaper was something they had to react upon.

lol. A bunch of script kiddies vs an organisation of killers with millions in oil revenue.

But didn't they steal information from the US Federal Government? I don't know a damned thing about coding and such. I have a better chance of becoming the next Queen of England (Which makes no sense) then becoming a scripter.

o.o

Edit: Here are some links of what I'm talking about. I'm not making a statement, I'm literally asking. I really don't know, do they have the capabilities of causing serious damage through the internet?

Delivering names, adresses, phone numbers, locations, freezing their bank accounts and looking for where the money they get is coming from is going to seriously slow them down. Closing propaganda and recruiting websites is also going to slow down the ammount of people joining them.

The bits I've put in bold. You honestly think that a hacking group is going to all of a sudden do this and stop the ISIS in it's tracks?

The FBI, CIA, MI5 and whatever other organisation there is are all trying to do these very things. You think that a hacking group are going to achieve more than said organisations who pretty much have the facilities to do this at a moments notice?

You're seriously simplifying this situation. If it were that easy, you think that anonymous would need to do this? It would have been done a long time ago.

Well, to be fairly honest, Intelligence agencies over the world are quite unproductive on this case. First because there's almost no communication between the agencies of different countries (for example, one of the terrorists who participated in the terrorist attack in France was known by the US intelligence services as a highly probablye terrorist threat, while french intelligence services classified the man as a simple recidivist felon). This lack of communication is leading into everyone doing everything on their own side, without consulting other agencies, slowing down the progress quite a bit. On the other side, Anonymous (who strangely enough never managed to get eradicated by the said intelligence agencies, showing a certain superiority on this level) is collaborating, cooperating altogether as a single and unique force, thus making their strikes a lot more efficient and direct.

Then, the corruption factor also needs to get into that. Qatar is known by many for giving money to a lot of terrorist organizations (including some under the ISIS banner), but strangely enough, absolutely no one takes actions against them, mostly because they own money, power, and petrol. Without talking about the incredible ammount of companies they bought across the world, even sports clubs. So, all in all, yes I do believe Anonymous could be more efficient than our intelligence services because of the points I mentioned above.

None of that would impact them. If you know their names and addresses, their either in the ME which is what we already know. If they're in other Western countries, then it wouldn't matter because it is illegally obtained evidence. Best they could do is put them under surveillance.

I can tell you a huge chunk of their economy comes from selling poppy, which is legal there.

Shutting their websites down does nothing. Their crimes and atrocities are done in the real world, not cyberspace.

Am I the only one who realizes how hypocritical Anonymous is? "Defenders of Free Speech" denying a group their right to free speech (no matter how bad it is).

Anonymous always does funny and good things.  I have to slightly disagree Pavelow.  While I don't think it has a large impact, some of the recruit drive does come from internet propaganda.  They might seem barbaric, and have no tech to them at all, but in a country that can have a CD burned boot-leg pirated copy the day of a release of a movie in open showing, they are always underestimated in terms of communication.  JSOC has been hammering them for awhile now, most of the initial hits have been from internet chatter...

I do however agree that money flows from the poppy... but coming up with a alternative to them to make a living, is wwaayyy harder said then done...

OH - P.S. CriminalKillaz.  I've noticed you've expressed your opinion on joining the service and going over there...

If you don't want to be let down by your military experience... get in shape, get yourself a topo-map (google it if you live in a hilly / wilderness area - leave your phone and GPS behind, or off, as a backup...), and hitch your ass off with at least 70lbs in a ruck for awhile... then sign up for that X-Ray program...

Be warned... If you wash out ... you'll end up in the dreaded home of the 82nd paratroopers... pray you never find out!

Otherwise your chance of being exposed to action is low...

Help my channel grow and I can explain to my wife why this addiction to coding is a good thing!

I agree that their recruitment would take a hit. Although I just don't see that impacting them. There is A LOT of Islamic extremism propaganda out there.

I don't know, they drive a hard bargain...

And would you believe that there are people out here retarded enough to go and join, simply because of the sense of humor in the recruitment? "Hahahahahaha oh wow these guys seem cool, I'll check em' out Hahahahahaha". Bunch of idiots.

Thanks for the tips man. You in the military?

in a broader sense i find it interesting to look at the diversity of groups which oppose ISIS.  Anonymous, most Arab states, basically every western nation, other terrorists.  when there is this much variation in the types of groups condemning ISIS, it definitely says - ISIS is pretty bad by any standards.

You also know you're bad when a terrorist organization that murdered 3,000 people say, "Woah, you've gone too far man".

I don't always agree with Anonymous' goals, and even more seldom do I agree with their methods of achieving those goals.

This is one of those rare occasions where I find myself agreeing on both points.
