Hard Copy

Can get money back when you are done with it (If you ever are)

You actually own a physical copy

Install time is much less

I'll probably go hard copy unless you're like me who constantly looses the serial key.

This is a difficult question, I'll try and make it simple for you:

Hard copy:

+ Got a relic to put on your shelf of games (I enjoy seeing a wall of games rather than a list on steam)

+ If you lose the internet or lose your digital account or whatever, you can easily reinstall as you have the disk

+ Paper copy of the map to put on your wall because why the fuck not

+ New disk smell

+ the joy of ripping open the stupid security sticker and hearing that oh so satisfying "click" of the case opening, as you launch plastic wrapping everywhere

- Disk can be scratched = fucked

- Disk/serial can be lost = fucked

- Reinstalling takes FOREVER

Steam/Digital copy:

+ Always got it if you move PC

+ Can easily unfuck the game (steam verify cache etc)

+ No disks or shit to mess around with

+ Linked to your account so you can install it elsewhere

+ Steam overlay...let's be honest it's quite handy at times (*other brands may not be as handy, see your own personal opinion on digital games launchers for more details)

- Install the game? Nope gotta wait 13,124 hours to download the game, only to find out when it hits 99% that the download failed due to a really slight interruption in your internet. Have to repeat

- No sense of joy when you own the game, just pure frustration waiting for the download, then the install, then the client to say "oops no, 100 patches first lol"

- Lose all sense of excitement when you go to the shop/it gets delivered in the post because your already bored waiting for it to download.

- No refunds or ability to sell it on

Hope this helps :)

Well, if you consider the size of the game itself, 65 gigs, it could take people an additional 3-4 days after the release to download the game in its entirety, depending on their internet connection. Hard copy allows it to be installed instantly. I don't have a problem with that, so I'm going Steam.

To say the least, I would pretty much follow what LukeD wrote.

For me, despite the long download times, I would go with a digital download copy of the game. Besides, I don't think I'll ever want to sell GTA V. It's something that I think I will want to keep around for a long time.

Until Steam hits the fan and you're unable to play the game anymore.

Hard copy. Always. My download speed is dreadful so I always buy physical copies of games whenever I can. I take care of my disks anyway, so I never loose them.

Same here. I know a lot of people who have just sold GTA V after they finish the campaign, which I think is just a waste. There's so much more to games than just the campaign. I never sell my games - I love the feeling and nostalgia of playing a game I haven't played in 2 years.

I couldn't agree more!

YES, Hard copy.

I have something that I can touch and look at, plus the digital copy will cost allot in internet data (for me anyway) and well, hard copy is the best way to go

Ummm, You can't once you used the Product key, there is no money back. depends on where you buy it

The installer will not be 65 GB. Installers make heavy use of compression to minimize file size, much more so than in the installed game (in the installed game, things need to be able to be quickly read into memory; in the installer, you aren't expecting it to be instant, so you can optimize for space efficiency (when running the game, you need to be able to access resources quickly and read lots of stuff into memory quickly, so you might put the same thing in multiple places or use low/no compression; when installing, you're decompressing *everything*, so you you don't need random access and don't need to duplicate stuff).

Also, 65 GB is far from instant installation. A single-layer DVD holds 4.7 GB; a dual-layer holds 8.5. You'd need 8 dual-layer DVDs or 14 single-layer DVDs to *hold* a 65 GB game; not only would reading 65 GB take quite a long time (longer with the dual-layer disks, they read much slower than single-layer), you'd have to constantly monitor the process to swap out the disk at least 7 times. Steam lets you queue a download and not have to worry about it anymore.

Yeah I'm with you there. I'll be getting this digitally. As a matter of fact, ever since I swapped to PC gaming, I haven't had a hard copy of anything yet, nor do I plan to. My hope is that GTA V is optimized correctly. From the system specs so far it looks promising but we won't really know until it comes out. Hopefully modding won't be too much of a headache.
