Hostage Situation In Australia

Recommended Posts

Yet another issue involving Islam.

By Matt Siegel

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Dozens of hostages were trapped inside a central Sydney cafe on Monday, with local television showing some being forced to hold up a black flag with white Arabic writing in the window, raising fears of an attack linked to Islamic militants.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who has warned of militant plans to attack Australian targets, said he was convening a meeting of the cabinet's national security committee for a briefing on the hostage situation at the Lindt Cafe in the country's commercial capital.

Islam never seems to stop giving, huh.

Was about to make a thread about this, very interesting. It seems to be connected to an arrest of someone involved in terrorism earlier in the day.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I haven't seen the full report from the time it happened as i woke up about 2 hours after it started occurring. However from what i have seen i don't think this guy is a terrorist, if he is then he is an amateur or wannabe.. out of all my years seeing all these terrorist threats i have never seen one conduct a hostage situation. plus he has already let 5 people go.. if he was a terrorist then he would've killed or kept the 5 hostages.

A terrorist doesn't care about people, only themselves.. so why care so much about those 5 people that he spares their life? something just doesn't add up.

If you want to me reply as soon as possible, then either quote or @CouthInk4  me as i'll be notified, a general reply will not notify me

Maybe they escaped while the perp wasn't looking. How do you know he let them go?

16 hours in, the gunman has been named as Haron Monis. Monis is a self-styled preacher of Islamic State who was released on bail at the time he took hostages. The weapon he is using has been identified as a sawn-off shotgun and 15 people are being held hostage.

Please don't mix Islam and extremists.

Islam is a religion, like christianity, catholic, judaism.

Extremists are twisting religions to fit their vision of the world. There are extremists in other religions too (like the crusades for the christianity).

It's easy to mix both and accusate a whole religion and people for the acts of just a few crazy dudes. And I'm saying that while being atheist.

It really becomes hard to not mix the two when you've read the Quran.

I agree that the interpretation of the Quran (or Koran depending on how people spell it) by the muslims is slightly twisted, but you know, the same goes for other holy books. Like, the Bible states a lot of different things than the actual religion tells people to do. Or the Church tells people to do stuff that never has been stated in the Bible.

That's the problem with religions, everyone is free to interpret them the way they want.
