Crickethill got a reaction from DivineHustle in Officer shooting man as he runs awaySo somebody with a broken taillight who's running from the police deserves death? Oh boy ...
That's not a "criminal off the streets", that is just plain murder. You deserve a fine for that, but not being shot in the back. If you support brutality like that, you can't be taken seriously.

Crickethill got a reaction from Murphy in GTA V: Rockstar Editor [PC]I really like the idea of the "Director mode". You don't need to use scripts anymore to set up scenes. You can just choose your main actor/acress and roll the cameras.
But what I am more interested in is the statement Rockstar made about mods. They will ban mods that negatively influence GTA:O - absolutely understandable - but it seems like they are expecting people to mod the game. So that tells us that GTA V is not as hard to modify as GTA IV.

Crickethill got a reaction from OfficerAndrew in A strange thing happening with CryENB 3ELS lights in CryENB depend on the shaders. In V1 you had very bright lights, blinding even like you describe it, in V3, if you install everything correctly, they should look good.
Also check your visualeffects. Maybe your settings are too high for CryENB V3. I have my lights set to 80 and they look bright and realistic. So they might be too bright if you go towards values of about 150 or above.
It also depends on the lightbars. It seems like some lightbars are brighter out of the box than others, so you have to adjust accordingly to them. But I am not sure about that, it is only an experience I had. Like a Whelen Liberty is a lot brighter than a Whelen Legacy, therefore the Legacy always looks better for me.
Let me know if you found out anything ;)

Crickethill got a reaction from Murphy in Teaser Trailer for new James Bond movie released!Yeah, rumors say that Idris Elba could become the new Bond after Daniel Craig.
I have to say, I don't really think that Craig is a "real" James Bond, Brosnan and Connery were the best ones in my opinion. Still, I enjoyed Skyfall a lot, one of the best Bond movies so far.
But I feel that Craig's movies do lack the "overstatement" that older Bond movies had. No more death ray satellites, more down to earth villains. I'm not a big fan of that.
But I am really looking forward to Spectre, especially because of Christoph Waltz, and I like the new faces of M and Q and of course Mrs. Moneypenny.

Crickethill got a reaction from Illusionyary in Teaser Trailer for new James Bond movie released!Well, see what Marvel and DC are doing at the moment, just to come off as "politically correct". I am not convinced that all these changes make a lot of sense, because - like you said - these characters were created 50 years ago.
But as for Bond, it does make sense for me. Especially when you believe in one of the "Bond-Conspiracy-Theories". James Bond 007 is just a code name a lot of agents inherited from their predecessors. When one Bond dies, the next Agent takes his place. I like the theory because it explains the changes in character and visually Bond has undergone. And while that probably isn't what Metro Goldwyn Mayer is thinking when they cast Elba as Bond, I can easily live with it because of that theory ;)

Crickethill got a reaction from DivineHustle in What Did You Want To Be As a Child? Now, What Do You Want To Be?As a kid I wanted to be a firefighter. I've always loved the lights and sirens and fighting ... well ... fires. As I grew older though I realized that as a firefighter you have to go up high ladders, and I'm not really a friend of heights.
But coming from a medical family, I became more and more interested in medicine. So when I was about 14 years I wanted to become a doctor. And that career path never really changed. I chose to do my civil service (instead of military) as a paramedic (on the level of EMT-B) for nine months and am still working shifts when I am home for the holidays. So that just made my career path clearer and so I got into university, and am studying medicine. It is difficult to choose which specialization though. Probably Aenesthesia and Emergency Medicine (you know, that lights and siren) or Neurologist or Neurosurgeon.
I am pretty happy with the path I have chosen, I think there is so much variety in medicine, no day is like the day before and you're actually doing something to be proud of.

Crickethill got a reaction from Pavelow in Abq. Officers to be charged with murder.Actually we went from a heated debate to arguments, came to an understanding and cleared it all up. I think we can agree on about 90% of that. Nice to finish a conversation like that.

Crickethill got a reaction from Lee10 in Abq. Officers to be charged with murder. No country in europe has police as militarized as the US. All of our officers carry a handgun (except UK) but no long guns or shotguns. If police feel like they can't handle the situation with the equipment they have, they call in reinforcements - to be more specific - every country's own SWAT team. France has RAID or GIGN, Germany has MEK, SEK or GSG9, Austria has COBRA or WEGA, ...
They are better trained to handle armed suspects and are equipped with bullet proof vests and assault rifles. But if these teams encounter somebody wielding a knife, they will use their fighting skills to take him/her down. If they shoot somebody without having taken every possible other method, they'll have to stand trial and most likely be convicted.
I don't understand why officers in the US think they have to handle everything. If they're overmatched with a situation, they should call in officers who are actually trained in dealing with such things. That'd prevent a lot of police shootings, because they just have no clue what they're doing.
And what Pavelow said is just wrong in my view. If terrorists can get an AK-47, police doesn't need to get assault rifles. You couldn't have done anything to prevent the Charlie Hebdo shootings, with no weapon in the world would you have been able to save these people.
You know, Germany has a gun-shot-murder-rate of about 30/year maximum. UK about the same. Austria (being a small country) of about 10/year maximum. The US has about 15.000/year. Of course you can't prevent shootings, there will always be people who somehow obtain a gun and shoot somebody with it. But with strict gun laws it is far more difficult to get one. So while you can't prevent shootings, you definitely can drastically lower their number. With the same statistics as the US, Germany would have 5000 gun-shot-murders every year.
So all the armament of the police, it just escalates things. People start to feel like they can't trust the police and instead of respect them, they fear the police.
And as for your "riot police" statement: You can identify violent protesters and separate them from the peaceful group. Absolutely NO need to break up the protests because of a few violent people. And to show up in full riot gear just to show strength is also escalating things.
Over here, police officers in normal uniform follow the protesters and check for violent people in there. The riot police stays back hidden in some alley ways along the protest and if they need to intervene, they can. But they don't show off their strength.
So while I really like most of the americans I met so far, I really think you guys should think about your gun problems. And you definitely should demilitarize your police and give them some proper training on how to handle difficult situations.

Crickethill reacted to LMS in 1.0d and change in release cycleHello,
with 1.0d we decided to change the release cycle for LCPDFR a little. Since V is approaching, there won't be any new "bigger" releases anytime soon, such as 1.1. Instead, I plan to frequently patch the existing 1.0d installer to address issues reported and add one or two very small things (one being a better description for the QAM menu once you bring it up for the first time) to improve your experience. This saves us from all the hassle that comes with shipping an entirely new release and allows us to roll out small patches faster. My goal is simply that I want 1.0d to be as stable as possible once V is out, because we won't have any time for GTA IV then. I hope you understand the change and can live without properly named releases, release threads and guides in exchange for quick response time. I will update this thread every time I roll out a new release and also drop a brief change log though. The first patch should go live soon.
Since V will be most likely 64-bit (exclusive?), we at LCPDFR also have to make changes to our existing reverse engineering toolchain to adapt to the new architecture. Software in this business, normally bought by large enterprises and three letter agencies, is expensive and can easily hit 3k USD per license. Now this is a lot of money for us, so in case you haven't preordered V yet, we'd appreciate if you do so using our Amazon ref-links provided below. Using the link for your next usual shopping there counts as well, just in case you wish to support us even more. It's doesn't cost you anything, but we'd really appreciate it.
Amazon US
Amazon UK
Amazon DE
Hoping the next announcement will be about San Andreas,
LMS
1.0d #2
Short description of what has been changed:
Improved QAM for partners a little by adding help boxes and a text telling you when your partner is too far away for an action (when aiming at someone) Fixed bugs with partner arresting and holding at gunpoint Fixed a few crashes thanks to your reports Improved performance a little The multiply key can now be used to (un)mute your siren Fixed issues with NOOSE vehicles set as suspect transporter models in settings Several small fixes
Diagnostics Tool now shows status of link (if present) Error Reporter will show a help button now when no savegame has been found to address confusion Attempt to detect previous crash during restore which will bring up an option to cancel restoring (Error Reporter)

Crickethill got a reaction from TheUniT in AI in police pursuitsI have drastically lowered the number of police cars that spawn in Liberty City, that also helps making the pursuit more civilized. Sometimes, you're the only unit in pursuit in the area, and sometimes it's just three or four cars in total. That's pretty managable without getting hit and every intersection.
I think the spawn rate of police cars in GTA is generally far too high, might be a gameplay decision so that escaping as Niko is more difficult, but it just results in a crash derby when playing LCPD:FR.
But now that I use my custom popsycle.dat I rarely get problems with pursuits, and sometimes I even lose the suspect because there wasn't a unit close to the suspect, and I like that. Before you just couldn't fail pursuits because there were cops at every corner.

Crickethill got a reaction from Illusionyary in Hostage Situation In AustraliaVery sad to loose a family member, a mother and wife, especially at this time of year.
The reports I heard said that the hostages escaped, after that the gunman got increasingly nervous. So it seems like Tori Johnson tried to disarm him. The police said they moved in after they heard shots fired, so I assume all this happened after the hostages escaped. If you watch the footage, you can see some time pass after the hostages left and the police suddenly storming the café.
Very unfortunate turn of events. But I hope australians can keep on with their lives and not let the islamist terror frighten them, because that would be exactly what terrorists like IS or Al Quaida want.
-
Crickethill got a reaction from lovkal in Hostage Situation In AustraliaIt was not. Man Haron Monis was an iranian asylant who has previously been involved with the police and in court for assisting in his wive's murder and in 40 cases of sexual assault. It seems like the police doesn't think he was anyhow involved with IS.
And guys, let's keep this all civilized and not make this topic about islamophobic statements. CriminalKillaz is right when he says that the Qu'ran tells people to kill people who don't share the islamic beliefs but most muslims don't go around killing innocent jews or christians. In fact, they're killing each other, a massive religious war is going on in the middle east because different groups have different interpretations about the texts they're reading. I am not a big fan of islam myself, but most of the muslims don't support terrorist acts. I can't understand those, who willingly join IS to commit crimes that are exactly the same that Hitler did. Genocide.
But I am strongly against being hostile towards a group of people because of how they look (arabs). So I support the Twitter trend #I'llridewithyou that started right after the hostage situation to prevent these cases of open hostility towards arabs.

Crickethill got a reaction from Hystery in Hostage Situation In AustraliaSo nice of you to only mention the english speaking countries when talking about the "developed world" ...
Neither religion has brought anything materially valuable to the world. Religions are about giving a moral compass to people, giving them something to believe in, to provide them with hope. The old testament is full of pretty cruel things that represent the world back then. The new testament though preaches love and a forgiving god. Still, if you read the old testament, you will find a lot of things that you could interpretate in a way that leads you right into a crusade. And that's what Europe did in 1092, leading a crusade against islam.
If you ask what good islam has brought the world, look to the middle ages. Back then, islam was a lot further in its philosophy than christianity, supporting science and exploration. That's why so many of our most important discoveries have been made in the middle east back then. So if you're asking for things that the islamic world has done for the rest of the world take medicine, mathematics, philosophy, ...
Unfortunately the religion took a dark turn somewhere down the road. But why is it that christians and jews don't fight each other anymore? Because we've had our fair share of wars and tragedies. Europe had a war every decade until the end of WW2, jews have been seen as people of lower class since about 2000 years. The muslim world hasn't had a huge war since the start of the afghanistan war in 1989. The muslim world is in a lot of change right now, starting with the revolutions a few years ago and now, the collective effort to get rid of IS. Of course, religion still is a big part of rulers in the middle east. The irani government wouldn't exist, if it weren't for religion, the saudi kingdom is based on religion. It is so much more than just a phrase in a book. I won't argue that there are a lot of violent phrases in Koran, probably more than in the bible, some muslim friends of mine who actually read it in arabic have actually told me that in its original voice, the book very much says you should kill the "heretics". But like christians chose not to live how the old testament told them to, muslims can choose to follow a different path, a non violent path.
There will always be those people who seek their justification in these books, and they can find them in there.
But back on topic: Too sad to hear that hostages actually died. Seems like the police went in after they heard a loud "bang".

Crickethill got a reaction from Lee10 in [DEBATE] Your Opinion On Legalizing MarijuanaI personally am against legalization of marijuana. Most of my friends have smoked a joint at least one time and they're behaving completely normal. I don't condemn people who are marijuana-consumers but saying that the drug has no side effects just isn't correct.
You know, our society unfortunately already has two legal drugs - tobacco and alcohol, both are bad for your health but we won't ban them because they're a social "ritual". Yes, tobacco is bad for your lungs and alcohol is bad for your liver (to a certain extent for your brain). If we could go back in time and decide which drugs we want to legalize and if we had to chose 2, I would say let's take alcohol and marijuana. But now that tobacco and alcohol are legal I feel that adding a third drug to that wouldn't benefit our society. Because marijuana isn't harmless - it is a psychotropic substance, that's why people consume it, if it wouldn't have any effect, people wouldn't smoke marijuana. There are a lot of people with alcohol or tobacco related health problems, now if you make marijuana completely legal and easily accessible (even more easy than it already is) there will be more patients who deal with the effects of marijuana.
From a medical point of view, alcohol can cause epilepsy after withdrawal when consumed for a long time, marijuana can be a trigger-factor for psychiatric diseases. I won't say marijuana will cause these diseases but as we know nowadays, genetics influence the probability of having psychiatric diseases, now you might never become ill, but if u consume marijuana regularily it might act as a trigger. Also, marijuana is suspected (like alcohol) to cause Alzheimer's disease - read more on the subject of how Alzheimer's develops - and from having seen a lot of Alzheimer's patients, I wouldn't take the risk of ever getting that disease.
But you also have to consume marijuana somehow - you smoke it. While smoking a joint isn't as bad for your lungs as smoking a cigarette, it certainly does harm the lungs. Like alcohol, marijuana doesn't to a lot of harm to one organ but little harm to a lot of organs. I drink alcohol every weekend and I won't ever get ill from that, unlike a lot of other people with alcohol problems. The same goes for marijuana, a lot of people won't get ill from that, but there certainly will be more people getting ill from it when it is legalized. Like alcohol, marijuana can act as an escape from reality for people.
So to clear up some of the medical misinterpretations in this topic:
Marijuana affects the dopamine inside the brain? - No it doesn't. Cocaine does affect the D1 and D2 (dopamine) receptors inside the brain, marijuana doesn't. Theoretically you should be able to treat Parkinson's with cocaine because the effects of cocaine counteract the effects of Parkinson's. But nobody would do that because cocaine does have a hell lot of negative side effects. That leads me to point 2: Marijuana can heal epilepsy? - I have read the article about the little girl with epilepsy. Marijuana is a muscle relaxant so it makes sense, but also, marijuana somehow affects the chemical balance inside our brain. On the one hand this influence can cause epilepsy to stop for some patients (because epilepsy mainly is an imbalance in the brain's chemical structure that causes neurones to fire uncontrollably) but on the other hand - especially with children - it changes this balance and that is especially harmful for a brain in development. I really wan't to read a study on that in 20 years from now, how the brain of that girl developed. It is like alcohol, giving a child alcohol when it is 7 years old or so can cause its brain to develop in a wrong way. Marijuana can heal cancer? - No it can't. As simple as that. Marijuana is mainly used for pain therapy and it is good for that. But marijuana can not kill cancer cells, it has no effects on these cells unlike chemotherapy that is designed specially for a special sort of cancer. So while marijuana might take the patient's pain it may help him "activate" his self-healing-powers. But that's mainly a psychological thing and doesn't work for a lot of people. Marijuana has no sideeffects/You can't OD marijuana? - Yes it does have sideffects like the ones I mentionned above: Alzheimer's, smoking it harms the lungs, trigger for psychiatric diseases, ... Also you can indeed OD marijuana. That's known as cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome - unfortunately people rarely diagnose it right because the patient won't admit smoking marijuana and the symptoms are similar to other diseases. But it definitely IS caused by marijuana (symptoms are vomiting/severe nausea and colicky abdominal pain - the symptoms stop after stopping to consume marijuana). Also the death statistics have to interpretated correctly: People don't die from smoking cigarettes or drinking alcohol, they die from diseases they got from smoking cigarettes (like COPD) or asphyxiation when unconscious because of too much alcohol or because of liver-diseases like alcoholic cirrhosis. Of course cigarettes and alcohol are the reasons behind the death, but patients don't die directly from it unlike heroine that causes breathing arrest when OD (which actually is pretty easy to counteract, there's a nice memory hook: "Every junkie gets Narcanti").
So there are a lot of things that people don't think of when talking about the legalization of marijuana. I know it isn't the most dangerous drug, and it makes sense when used as a prescription drug in medicine but I wouldn't legalize it because we already have 2 legal drugs that affect our society in bad ways sometimes and adding a third drug to that most certainly wouldn't benefit it either. Defenders of marijuana always come up with some medical "wonders" that - when viewed from a scientific point - aren't "wonders" at all and might come with serious side-effects.
Monologue end.

Crickethill got a reaction from Hystery in 1st Female Firefighter killed in line of Duty in PhillyOf course it is always sad to read that a police officer or firefighter or paramedic dies. But as far as I've read, she wasn't working as a first responder at that time and died while working as a fire fighter. Unfortunately, that's the risk fire fighters knowingly get themselves into.
But, while that may sound hard, they know what they're going into, sometimes it is just bad luck, sometimes it's just a bad decision. The first thing you learn when going into emergency services is, that your own health is more important than for example the patient's.
I would never go anywhere near a burning truck, even if I knew there was somebody inside who needs my help. You have to take care of yourself and not endanger yourself, because if you die or get hurt, you didn't help anybody. There's just two or more victims then.
And especially first responders in the medical field aren't exposed to so much danger as one could say they "risk their life everyday". First responders dying is often related to code 3 runs. Some people just turn their brain off when they turn their lights and sirens on. You have to drive carefully, even though you have that flashy thing on your roof. I never felt in danger when driving on an ambulance because my drivers always drove carefully while still trying to be as fast as possible.
I know of enough cases where ambulances crashed into something just because they didn't respect the rule that you have to stop at a red light to make sure everybody has seen you. So the most important thing is to not turn your brain off and take care of yourself. Sometimes though, you're just really, really unlucky if something really happens to you. But I can only tell from EMS, and most injuries there are caused by pure stupidity when running code 3.

Crickethill got a reaction from sjain in New EMS Mod by Mordecki Trailer 3We can't tell you an exact release date. The mod is depending on Mordecki's and my spare time and both of us are currently involved in university and other courses. But we are still working on it on a regular basis and finishing up some of the major features.
I see that all of you have been waiting for a very long time already, but I really think we're pretty close to the finish line. I know that doesn't mean much to you because you don't know what "pretty close" means. But since the last trailer we came up with a lot of new ideas or ideas to improve our systems from back then, all that needs a lot of scripting work and Mordecki is the only one in our Two-Man-Team who is capable of scripting.
We have one major system yet to finish. The ideas are fleshed out, the main scripting work is currently being done. After that it needs some polishing. The other systems are pretty much done, still some bugfixing here and there and polishing but they're mostly already very enjoyable.
I have posted a topic some time ago here on the LCPD:FR forums to ask you guys what kind of treatment system you want, and if you read up on that, you'll see that the advanced treatment system is a lot of work, especially for Mordecki.
But I think taking time is the major factor of why the mod is running so incredibly stable (at least for me). Mordecki built in a lot of checks to get rid of bugs and crashes. So while not every idea we came up with during the creation process might be in our first release, all the important parts will already be there.
And I think I can say: We'll be back with some more to show you guys soon.

Crickethill got a reaction from Hastings in [WIP] [beta] WoutersCallouts - More callouts for LCPDFRWell, the first situation you describe doesn't need much manpower. Allergic situations aren't hard to handle if the patient isn't in anaphylactic shock at the time. You just give adrenaline or cortisol and normally the patient should stabilize immediately. For patients in shock you just give them some O2 additionally and monitor their blood pressure. The airway should be free again in no time. So I'm not entirely sure why you mentioned that situation - no additional forces would be needed here, except the kid was in cardiac arrest (children are far easier to rescusitate though because their problems are mostly airway related and no heart tissue is damaged).
What I was refering to was a cardiac arrest call where it is pretty sure that a patient is in cardiac arrest. You send everybody there to make sure somebody arrives as soon as possible. Every minute a patient stays in cardiac arrest without getting CPR, his chances of survival drop by 10%. Also something I forgot to mention: If you find somebody lying in a park or somewhere on a public place in cardiac arrest and the patient is declared dead, it is an unclear cause of death so you need police anyway.
And I want to clarify something you mentionned about heart attacks. If somebody suffers from a heart attack he doesn't immediately drop dead. A NSTEMI (non-ST-elevation-myocardial-infarction) can take up to 72 hours to really become life-endangering. An acute STEMI (ST-elevation-myocardial-infarction) needs treatment within 24 hours. So patients who immediately feel symptoms and get treatment right away get away with minor tissue damage. I had a patient though who experienced chest pain the whole day until it got so bad at night (callout at 10PM) that she called an ambulance. She had already difficulty breathing because her heart activity was pretty weak and she developed pulmonary edema. I was just a paramedic at that time and not a doctor but our emergency physician said that, had we arrived one hour later she might have gone into cardiac arrest by then. So the danger of a heart attack definitely depends on the time of treatment.
And even if somebody has a MCI because of fatty food he/she deserves to be treated properly - everybody should "bat an eye". You'd want treatment too, if it were you. If you were guilty of causing an MVA and you're trapped inside your car, I'm sure you'd want paramedics to help you too, not only the other patient you insured. So keep the ignorant comments for yourself.
Another clarification: obese patients are a lot harder to rescusitate because you need to push deeper to give proper cardial massage. For every CPR call, a minimum of 6 people are on scene (in Germany/Austria mostly 2 ambulances + emergency physician vehicle with 1 paramedic and 1 doctor).

Crickethill got a reaction from LtFlash in [WIP] [beta] WoutersCallouts - More callouts for LCPDFRWell, the first situation you describe doesn't need much manpower.
