Regarding Profile Lists

  • Popular Post

I'm sure many of our active members will know that profile lists are quite a common occurrence here, and very rarely have we ever stepped in when it comes to determining what we can and can't allow. That has had to change over the past few days due to some recent events, and it's best to let everyone know about it now before we come knocking.

First, I'd like to state that we have no intention on getting rid of profile lists completely. They're a great way for members to express themselves and thank other members who've helped them or who have been good friends over time.

However, we have to address a specific type of list - the "abusive list" for lack of a better term. Some may remember a few months ago, there was an isolated incident where a member drafted a list containing the names of a dozen or so members and wrote abusive remarks about them. As this was an isolated incident, it was removed, and that was that. Unfortunately, a similar event has occurred again, and the trend doesn't show any sign of abating so we've had to address the issue formally.

We want members to be able to express themselves on their profiles. We can't however allow lists that abuse, slander, or otherwise degrade other members. That goes against the direction we want this site to go in, and it's something we simply can't tolerate. Having abusive profile lists only spreads discontent between the members involved and allows any personal problems to escalate farther than they otherwise could. Not only that, but anyone visiting a profile containing an abusive list may develop the wrong impression toward certain members because of the list. As such, any profile lists of that nature that we come across will be removed and as with any incident of abuse, proper action will be taken.

I must stress that this doesn't mean we're prohibiting any list that isn't "positive." We see no issues with having a list of people someone doesn't like; there just can't be any abuse, slander, or other remarks of that nature. Having a list entitled "people I don't like" is fine, but having a list saying "these people are all idiots" is not.  We feel this is an acceptable balance between prohibiting degrading remarks and allowing members to express themselves.

This may be a significant restriction for profiles (and probably disliked by some), but there's really no other option. No civilised forum should allow members to spread crude remarks about others.  If we allowed abusive lists, we'd be saying it's okay to label and degrade other members on profiles.  That simply isn't acceptable.  Our Community Guidelines will be updated accordingly to reflect this change as well.

Thanks iconography, a community should be a place where people should get to express themselves and not have to worry about other being abusive towards them or otherwise inappropriate behavior, this is lcpdfr how would you like if someone made fun of you or was abusive towards you all because of something on your profile.

What's a profile list?

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not but i'll just tell you anyways. It's when users list a whole bunch of other members in their "About Me" section. Most of the time it's people who they respect.

Put a list of the abusers profiles on the home page. :]

I'm just kidding.

I'm actually down for something like this. I'm tired of people who actually steal, rip and whatnot with peoples parts, cars, and other mods. Myself, and a couple others that I know, had the "be careful of" lists. It was meant for people to know "hey, these people aren't very trustworthy" and to let them know. Some people who are starting out don't know the names of these members on the website, and they might get tangled with someone wrong and then they get in trouble and they didn't even know why.

That's my two cents.

I'm not for "this guys a jackass" or "this guy makes shitty mods", I'm all about keeping the members of this site informed.

The LCPDFR Team would not do something like this because it would add unnecessary drama and it would ruin the LCPDFR image for acting immature/unprofessional. The way that they're dealing with the current situation is fine.

For sure, I wasn't really saying that they should really implement this, maybe do this for the moderators if they haven't already. But They should leave the profiles of members who do that, and remove the ones who just have "crappy mod people" or "people who piss me off" lists.

I think there needs to be an age limit to join on here...18+ this is one of the most immature forums ive ever been in granted ive only been a part of few truck forums but since  grand theft auto iv is rated m for mature this site should also go by that and then maybe there wouldn't be so much drama on here because that's all ive seen the past few years nothing but drama queens

The thing about this is, some immature people on this community can and possibly be and are over the age of 18. Being 18 doesn't necessarily mean they are more mature. It would be punishing many people who have done nothing wrong and followed the rules. Maybe making the sanctions more severe to get rid of these guys could be something the Community Team looks into.

I'm going to personally say I'm against this change and was against it. My thoughts do not represent the community team (as I rarely wish to deal with our interpretive rules and how we're interpreting them) but I honestly think that sometimes critique is well deserved. The particular case this policy change was concerning wasn't really that bad and wasn't abusive, just a personal view by a member.

I think this isn't really "abusive profile lists" as much as it's "negative profile lists". I don't know, maybe I have a too liberal view on freedom of speech.

But if the community thinks this is a good change, that's all that really matters in my view.

Big Thumbs up from me, perfect statement.

I'm not being sarcastic, that's why I asked. If you checked my profile, I've obviously never has done this.

Does having your name in a list really piss people off or something? I don't see why this should be a big deal. I doubt most users would care if they're on a good or a bad list, it's just the opinion of others. A forum is generally the place for people to spat their opinions.

Anyways, isn't this an isolated incident?

I somewhat agree here, however i can't help but feel this is a double standard.. We're allowed to Express ourselves but not when its negative? I've been on a few of the negative List's and Seriously Couldn't care less.. I Think people need to grow up.. if being on Someone's (who they don't even know nor will ever know) "Hate List" like come on guys seriously?

I Think Truly Abusive Things about people in A List like (Racism,Bigotry Towards Religion, eyc) should be Deleted, but i think the Line between Abusive and Simple Negative Expression is being Blurred Seriously, I've felt that way ever since people had serious Issues with Criticism in general in the download section trying to call that abuse too, but that's another argument to be had..

Age, for the most part, does not determine someones maturity level.

LCPDFR.com, like most websites has its fair share of "drama queens", however in comparison to some forums I've been apart of, LCPDFR.com is on the more mature end. Adding an age limit would not increase the maturity level and if anything, it would deter new members from joining. Several members of the Community Team are 18 or younger (including myself) and only a small handful of the most suited members ever get chosen for a role in the Community Team.

Off-topic: Woah. Wait a second. You're under 18? I always thought you were somewhere around 20       +10 to Respect :)

About the topic, my stance is as most above. I'm ok with it, as long as it removes lists that include racism, insulting a person directly or his religion, etc.

However, a 'People I don't like' list is ok by me, even if reasons are given (so long as they're not abusive. Reasons like: He was rude to me, etc. are ok-ish by me).

If my post made you laugh (or giggle) in any way, smash that blue grey "Like this" button & like it
