Anybody who is good at school even being a Gamer?

Featured Replies

Playing games doesn't have to impact your grades.

I currently have 53 hours of games played the past 2 weeks but I'm still holding a 3.95 GPA in college.  It depends entirely on the person, to be honest.

Edit: actually, let me clarify this.  An addiction to games can impact your grades, since you're too likely to throw off your work.  But a healthy balance of games to work is fine.

Anybody who is good at school academics even addicted to video games? Do you think that gaming may overthrow your knowledge at school? What's your opinion?  To be honest, I still have high grades even I am addicted to video games.

No it doesnt effect my grades even though I don't play video games anymore. From going to school, and working I just don't have time.

There is a strong difference between casually playing games and being addicted to games. I highly doubt you are addicted, I highly doubt anyone here is addicted. As a result, playing games casually (even if you play some form of game every day) will not affect your grades if you focus yourself. I recently got 85% in a coursework piece at university, and submitted all my other coursework pieces in on time to a high standard. And yet I still sit and play a few hours of games each night.

(ftr 85% constitutes a 1st class piece of work, that's the highest level achievable at UK universities)

If you are capable of saying "hmm, no, I don't feel like playing that game today" you're not addicted. If you have to play games, all day, and get anxious when you don't, that is possible addiction. And that will affect your life, let alone your grades.

Don't become addicted. Take breaks, do other things. Eg, I don't play games at weekends cause I go to my dad's and the internet sucks. Instead I pull cars apart with my dad and learn how a car works in great detail.

Videogames doesn't effect my school life.

I play games, and I go to an absolutely top-tier American university. They can affect my schoolwork by way of being distracting, but that's the thing - they don't mess with knowledge, they mess with work ethic (when they mess with anything).

I guess it depends on the person, I dropped out at 16 cause I juggled school & work & I needed to focus on feeding myself rather than go to class, keep in mind my mom got me my first paying job when I was 11 as a dishwasher as she couldn't afford to buy me things, so please don't judge, I uses to play video games all the time, now I just play them when I'm bored which isn't very often, I used to play Skyrim & GTAIV literally every...single...day, then my priorities changed, I now tow cars & have no life

But that's not being a gamer messing with school, that's having had a rough childhood messing with school. "I dropped out because I needed to work a job in order to feed myself" is a lot more legitimate than "I dropped out to play Skyrim".

Being a gamer doesn't have anything to do with grades. As long as you take gaming in moderation, and discipline your self it shouldn't be a problem.

Multiple studies have been done linking video games to good health.

Yes...Playing video games can actually be good to your physical/Mental health.

Doesn't affect me.
In fact, I hardly ever studied while I was at home. Maybe touched my books 2-5 times a year for a max of 3 hrs each.

I still got above average (about 80%+, for Maths & [stupid] Social Studies 70%+) marks at school.

I was never really told to study regularly everyday, so I didn't. 70% of my days was spent playing games & doing other stuff (reading my books, comics etc). 30% was my tution (which Dad forced me to go during my Class 10th, just as a boost I think), which was 3 hrs for 3 days per week.

Summer holidays were spent playing 24/7. Doing or not doing summer assignments doesn't matter over here, so most of us didn't do it & just copied each other's at the end of holidays. I just did mine partly at the beginning & balance at the end of holidays.

Just goes to show what you can achieve if you actually & seriously pay attention during class, I guess.

It is all self control, maturity, and time management.

Those who have developed those traits will not have an issue with video games and school.

I play games/spend a decent time on the computer, when not on the PC I am out doing loads of things and usually find myself at home for about 2 hours a day before I go to sleep and have a 3.8 GPA for this semester.

Well, I always sucked at school work more in math the other math's you have to take. The only time I had a 4.0 is when one grade was posted, That was an A in P.E

I play games quite a lot of the time, although I'm not the best I am still quite good at my studies. I don't think games have that much effect, from what I see its just people being too lazy or not caring.
