Project Christine - Razer's Concept Modular PC

Featured Replies

Hello guys, I'm bringing forward a discussion to the community today after recently reading an article on Hexus (see link further down).

I will post some images from the article for those who can't load the link for whatever reason (mobile users etc)

Here is the article

And here is some images from the article. (There is a youTube video in the article which I will embed here for simplicity.)

Basically, gaming peripheral company Razer has released a concept design for a fully modular gaming PC. I've no idea where they intend to go with this concept, if it does become a release or not but I am interested to see what PC gamers of all variety think about the idea.

PLEASE KEEP THIS TO YOUR OWN OPINIONS

I don't want to fill this thread with people hating on each other's comments, unless of course you have some valid evidence to back up your theory.

So I'll start it off with my opinions

I think the idea behind it is pretty neat, a simple self contained pc that makes upgrading easy for the novice users, like installing a keyboard you just plug in and go. however the downfall is I expect a high price range for these specially built parts, as well as the issue that you are taking away the complex nature of building a computer, and thus people would lose the interest in computing in general.

I love it's design a hell of a lot, and would be very tempted to buy one just for that. It's concept only at the moment, but the whole thing just looks uber cool in my opinion, especially with that GUI on the front of the power pack.

Based on looks and ideas I would give it an 8/10 with room for adjustment depending on price etc.

So, what do you guys/girls/androids think? Is it good or bad? and what would you rate it?

I really love building computers, and to make it so simple would take the fun out of it for me. I love the process of choosing my parts and then putting them all together, and then troubleshooting at the end.

As odd as it seems, I even love doing my cable management.

I definitely wouldn't be investing in a modular PC, that's for sure.

Honestly I'm going to say the unpopular thing here and say that PCs are already modular. This is pretty pointless.

Agreed, and yes they are. But they do call it the worlds "most modular" pc as opposed to "the only modular pc" :P

It's....different....I don't know if I like the design of it. The idea is pretty cool, but the styling, I don't know. Although I can tell you I wouldn't buy it because if you've ever seen the movie "Christine" about the evil Plymouth Fury that fixed itself and tried to kill people, I don't want a machine that will try to kill me...lol

Gonna make this plain and simple, more than the computer.

It's ugly.

The simplicity seems nice, but the overall look of the computer just looks "too" modern or modular or whatever you want to say.

It's ugly, but I like the idea of it, since some people like the idea of self-building but don't have the technical know-how to do it. It would definitely put a dent in profits of companies that sell gaming or even standardized PCs currently.

Building my PC for me was an experience I'll never forget, as I learned so much. I don't know about people less tech savvy than me, but modular PCs sound blank, dark, and boring. There's nothing more thrilling to me than learning how a PC works. It's like my baby, I care for it dearly.

Modular PCs aren't going to cut it for me, plugging in rectangles is just a turn off for me. But I'll at least say they are beautiful rectangles.

( Sorry if the image is big, I don't know how to resize :O )
