You don't need law enforcement experience for the FBI. You need one of each of the following lists:

.

.

.

Law enforcement is just one of the qualifications.

Technically, this is correct. Practically, it is extremely, extremely difficult to be hired without significant prior LE experience. Technically, you don't need to have held elected positions to be President; in practice, you do. The FBI is a very competitive job to get; lots of people apply, few are hired. People with past LE or military experience tend to get preferred over others. CPAs might be able to get hired as agents, but it'd probably help if you worked for the IRS for a bit first, or for a state agency.

Hell yeah! I've wanted to be one since ever. I hope to be joining the Explorer program my local PD offers in about a year or so. I don't know about anyone else, but I love the idea of protecting people and sacrificing my life for other peoples' safety. I just love the sense of accomplishment.

SCNG FTW!!

Yes, they have close to or over 1000 people who apply. Most are denied because they just are not qualified, meaning they don't meet those requirements on the website. Accounting is actually kind of special when you have the CPA license. I'm pretty sure most of the other qualifications need multiple years of job experience to count. With a CPA license, you already get one year of work experience. I read an article where a recruiter said that people who have a CPA license are "gold" in his eyes. I might work for one of the big four accounting firms in NYC (Deloitte, EY, PWC, KPMG) first. Possibly work for the IRS. I haven't thought that far ahead yet....

"Work and ideas get stolen, then you keep moving on doing your thing."

As I said, CPA might be special; accountants are useful. I might go with some sort of government agency, as then you'd get forensic experience (or, if you really want to be an accountant investigating federal crimes, the IRS's Criminal Investigation Division might actually be a place to look after you get forensic experience. They're the ones who handle tax evasion, are armed federal agents, and can get criminals no one else can touch for revenue violations [think Capone]).

Yea, I've looked a little into the IRS. One thing I remember is that their physical fitness requirement for special agents is to be able to handle strenuous activity such as walking and standing.

Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely take it into consideration.

The explorer program is a great thing to get into anyone from ages 14-21 (not convicted felon or anything)  It really helps you out when your looking for a job, let alone a actual police job. My teacher who was a cop for close to some 15-20 years was a CPT and he sat in on the interviews and he would always give people who had the Police Explorer experience another look because most of the time they end up being some of the best officers.

What a good thread to post my first post in. I've been leaning back and forth between career in LE or Military. Since being in the military since 2009 and had the opportunity to work side by side with ex LE people from around the world these last few years at my job I've decided to apply for the Police Academy here in Sweden. Crossing my fingers since this is the week I'll get an answer if I'll get called for the physical testing.

Nope. Too paranoid.

That's why I play LCPDFR, to simulate actually being a cop.

Paranoid?

I'm wanting to work in some type of federal investigation or law enforcement, so I put yes. Not any specific agency, although FBI and NCIS do have my attention. I have no idea what I need to do to get there, and if there happen to be any with experience in this area on the board I'd really appreciate some feedback.

I am!

Same here mate!

Already apart of the family ay :)

For those of you who think you aren't good enough to join, thats plain bullshit. (forgive the french ;) )

Its more than just being physically or mentally capable, its incorporates a range of skills anyone can master if they are dedicated enough.  I am sure atiwarie will agree with me on that one!

So stop making excuses and if you want to join up, there aint no day better than today!

the funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it

I've always wanted to be a police officer even since I can remember but I doubt I'd pass the fitness exam, I'm not obese or anything I'm just lazy as shit. Luckily I've got two more years of highschool (going to finish 11+12) to work on my fitness, and as soon as I turn 18 I'm heading straight down to the recruitment agency. In the meantime I may join the police cadets.

I would love too, and possibly Military Police, but I won't say: yes definitely, because you never know until you pass everything!

True that. It's a huge achievement to get accepted into the police force.
