So, Rockstar Games have just announced the special editions and while I'm disappointed they took the EA route of extra content, I'm cancelling my order and going for the collectors edition.

Thoughts? I'm loving the fact we can play as Niko during online play! Hopefully he has some new lines recorded although I don't mind re-used ones from IV. Maybe we'll see HD renditions of CJ and Tommy?

I'm really, really disappointed that rockstar is giving preorders in-game advantages and special content. I don't want to pay twice the price for the full game, outrageous.

Well, I don't really like that, we have too much "incomplete" games now, thanks to EA, Ubisoft, and some others.

 

I don't know what thinking about this for GTA V.

IMHO, "collector editions" should only be with bonus physical content (statues, posters, books, CDs, etc...), not ingame digital stuff.

im just going to get the digital version on the playstation network and IF I want the dlc ill just buy them...I hate disks

No you dont need Origin to play GTA V.  EA doesn't make the GTA games.

Disappointing they went down the path of in-game content for the special editions.  I got the GTA IV special edition with the soundtrack and duffel bag, it was pretty decent and I still have all the stuff.  I think the baseball cap and the bag look silly though :(

 

Also I don't like how the game will be easier with the special editions, it should be the same core game for everyone!

I'm really dissapointed that they went with the EA approach, but atleast R* are offering good stuff, unlike the other game companies are doing for their extra content.

 

But I'm probably just gonna go with the regular version because I have no need of those extra stuff and I don't like "Limited Editions", "Special Editons" or "Collectors Edition".

oh ok, because when I pre-order saint row 3 I didn't get the extras when they came out. (plus I only got GTA V for $33 so I can't complain) 

Wow, stupid. Special edition and collector's edition? Plus the collector's edition is WAYYYYYY overpriced. $150? Who would pay that? That's 2.5x more than the original game price. I'll probably cancel my standard pre-order and get the special edition. But still, they're way overpriced.

It won't make the game easier for those who have pre-ordered it, you'll just get a few "extras".

But I agree with you, it's quite unfair.

 

Is that really worth it anyway? I mean, the Special Edition is fine. Plus, I don't care about that stupid cap.

 

Or I could just pre-order the Collector's Edition and sell what I don't need. Don't know yet...

Some days I still want to strangle the ass who came up with the idea of in-game content as special or pre-order bonuses, and even more so the ass who came up with the idea of retailer-specific content, in-game and out.
