Push bumper, rambar, or brush guard?

Featured Replies

There are 3 very popular names that we call this metal structure protecting the front of many police cars and civilian trucks, but what do you call it most of the time?

"Push bumper", "Rambar", or "Brush Guard", or something else?

I call it a push bumper mostly, but sometimes a rambar.

I usually call it Rambar. Fast to say, only 1 word and it sounds coool. =)

It depends... For like non-police trucks I call them brush guards if they are like part of the bumper. I call them grill guards also.

Isn't there a difference?

"Pushbar" kinda like the ones the NYPD use, that "push" cars I guess

"Rambar" the ones most cars have?

Yea pushbar sounds good to but to me its a little odd to say. Nypd and the California highway patrol would use the rambars and other ones like Gorhino would be the rambar if you look at it that way.

I call it a "make car in front of me very sad". LOL :teehee:

Seriously I'd call it a bull-bar or rambar if mounted on a police vehicle.

Cheers.

All police use the bars basically to push cars. Ramming a car is the sort of thing that puts the guy you're ramming at high risk of serious injury or death (while it's not *always* considered unjustified [Scott v. Harris, for one], it's only allowed if the chase is dangerous and threatens the lives of innocent bystanders and police officers). PIT maneuvers, which are much more common, almost never use the pushbar - you use the whole side of the front of your car, and the pushbar is normally at the very front only. Also, ramming is the sort of thing that might bend your car's frame, even with a pushbar there.

Instead, the reason police cars have them is pretty much "move cars off the road" and "protect the car from minor crashes". It's not for ramming.

Yes, once my mom's car ran out of gas (she's not too swift) in an intersection and a cruiser pushed us off the road. Sadly it cracked the bumper on my mom's car. :(
