Police Tape 3.2

(25 reviews)

1 Screenshot

It's Los Santos... people get shot, people get run over, things catch fire... and it's usually all your fault. Eventually, you need to do something to keep nosy bystanders out of your business. Ever wished you could quickly close off a freeway so no cars can get by? Ever wanted to block off the scene of a dead body so that curious pedestrians couldn't tell who exactly shot them? Perhaps you just want to peacefully do some construction work, but oblivious drivers keep driving into your work zone. Or maybe you're fighting a fire, and need to stop rubberneckers from wandering into harm's way.

No matter what you do in Los Santos, Police Tape is here to keep everyone else out of your way.

  • Featuring dynamic tape with cloth physics that blows in the wind

  • Aim-and-click tape and barrier placement lets you attach tape to any surface

  • Built-in advanced traffic control stops even the stupidest San Andreas drivers

  • Ped path blocking prevents most ambient peds from crossing police lines, while allowing backup, medics, coroners, and suspects to keep going

  • Full API lets plugin and callout creators add tape to their own scenes

  • Tape import/export system lets you save your tape and include saved tape scenes in callouts

  • Tape management menu to delete individual strands of tape and manage traffic control

  • Customize your tape texture to get different text or patterns

  • LML support to install scripts and police tape model files, DLC option if you prefer

KNOWN ISSUE: The tape sometimes droops through the ground, especially when there is not much wind or with longer pieces of tape. User more barriers and shorter pieces of tape to help reduce this effect. This is due to the limitations of what cloth physics can do in zmodeler/GTA V. Version 2.0 adds static tape models which do not sag as an option. You can choose for each strand whether to use static or dynamic tape.

KNOWN ISSUE: If you are having issues with changing the keybindings in the INI not taking effect in the game, add a single blank line at the top of your INI file.

KNOWN ISSUE: You may need to install a modified gameconfig.xml, depending on your version of GTA V. If you already have a modified gameconfig.xml to support add-on vehicles, you should be OK. If you haven't before and your game crashes on startup after installing Police Tape, you need to install a custom gameconfig. You can use the following LML package to install a compatible Gameconfig file:

What's New in Version 3.2

Released

Version 3.2:

  • Recompiled for latest game version due to changed GameControl enum.

  • Only for RageNativeUI 1.124+ and GTA V 3717+. For older versions, use version 3.1.

Previous updates:

Spoiler

Version 3.1:

  • Fixed possible crash when deleting individual tape strands from the tape management menu.

  • Updated to RageNativeUI 1.8.1

Version 3.0:

  • Added the much-requested option to spawn just barricades without any police tape attached to them. This is available by entering the tape placement mode, selecting a barricade, and middle-clicking to spawn a barricade by itself, or left-clicking to spawn with tape attached.

  • Updated to RageNativeUI 1.7. Please make sure this file is up to date.

  • Added INI options to enable "alternate texture", "static tape", and "continuous mode" checkboxes by default.

  • Optimized performance of traffic control checks to significantly reduce the FPS impact when there are many tape strands spawned.

  • Added DLC installation option. LML is still recommended, but the DLC is available for those who prefer it.

Version 2.1:

  • Fixed bug causing INI Keybindings section to not be read correctly

  • Clarified instructions for installing alternate police tape textures

  • Updated for compatibility with new ParksTools.dll version

Version 2.0:

  • Added static tape option

  • Updated API

  • Improved traffic control algorithms

  • Added support for new versions of ParksTools.dll and for Coastal Callouts

  • Improved Police Tape menu

  • Other misc bug fixes

Would be nice to get a uninstall.oiv  so if deleted needed you can do so without people have no chance to delete if you they dont know how to

Uninstall instructions are on the download page. I will make an OIV uninstaller with the next update, but it'll be a couple weeks til I have time for the update.

Love it.

I think there's a typo in the ini, in the barriers list - prop_roadcone02ab (probably meant prop_roadcone02b). Can you confirm?

@PNWParksFan Would it be possible for you to add controller buttons to the ini for open menu? If OpenMenuKey was mapped to a controller button or button combo players using a controller could use this plugin without having to use the keyboard and mouse at all as start placing tape is accessible from the menu.

Hint for players using controller: Aim further than MaxDistFromTarget (8m by default) and you can use RT (R2) to cycle barriers without placing tape.

Edit: possible bug, you can place barriers further than MaxDistFromTarget. This is maybe intentional I don't know.

is there a manual download for this? using the auto installer, the game just crashes on start. i poked around the ini and saw a setting at the bottom for an export folder with a caution that the path must be exact. except i didnt see any folder created in the path directed in the ini, so im thinking maybe that could be the issue? i dont know because everything was done automatically

Chances are that you did not install a gameconfig file as required. It certainly has nothing to do with the INI whatsoever; if your game is crashing that happens before the plugin even gets a chance to load and read the INI.

There is not a manual installer currently. You could unzip the OIV to manually install things but that would take some advanced knowledge and I do not have time to provide support if you choose to do that.

You probably did not install a gameconfig as required.

game crashes on start? You keep saying to people who are having the same issue there is a problem with a gameconfig file, but can you explain what that is and how to fix it?

On startup it says the plugin is not installed properly (missing some .dll or something). I'll get the full error message later. Any ideas?

It does actually say that. Read the message more closely and you will see.

Has it ever worked for you? By any chance have you recently updated your game to a new version? If so you should run the installer again, or just go add the line back to dlclist.xml manually and make sure you install a proper gameconfig for the latest game version.

You need LML to load the Police Tape models.

Is it possible to remove the requirement of Lenny's Mod Loader. Not everyone that wants to install Police Tape will want to install Lenny's Mod Loader.

I am not currently planning to make a version that does not use LML.

will the LmL mod mess up what i have already installed ? or will it just be for police tape, coastal callouts and what not ? kinda low on space and dont want it to copy all my mods 😛

It's compatible with mods installed through more traditional methods too. You don't have to recopy other mods or anything like that.
