Police Tape 3.1

Dynamic police tape and barrier placement with traffic and pedestrian control
   (25 reviews)

1 Screenshot

It's Los Santos... people get shot, people get run over, things catch fire... and it's usually all your fault. Eventually, you need to do something to keep nosy bystanders out of your business. Ever wished you could quickly close off a freeway so no cars can get by? Ever wanted to block off the scene of a dead body so that curious pedestrians couldn't tell who exactly shot them? Perhaps you just want to peacefully do some construction work, but oblivious drivers keep driving into your work zone. Or maybe you're fighting a fire, and need to stop rubberneckers from wandering into harm's way.

No matter what you do in Los Santos, Police Tape is here to keep everyone else out of your way.

  • Featuring dynamic tape with cloth physics that blows in the wind
  • Aim-and-click tape and barrier placement lets you attach tape to any surface
  • Built-in advanced traffic control stops even the stupidest San Andreas drivers
  • Ped path blocking prevents most ambient peds from crossing police lines, while allowing backup, medics, coroners, and suspects to keep going
  • Full API lets plugin and callout creators add tape to their own scenes
  • Tape import/export system lets you save your tape and include saved tape scenes in callouts
  • Tape management menu to delete individual strands of tape and manage traffic control
  • Customize your tape texture to get different text or patterns
  • LML support to install scripts and police tape model files, DLC option if you prefer

KNOWN ISSUE: The tape sometimes droops through the ground, especially when there is not much wind or with longer pieces of tape. User more barriers and shorter pieces of tape to help reduce this effect. This is due to the limitations of what cloth physics can do in zmodeler/GTA V. Version 2.0 adds static tape models which do not sag as an option. You can choose for each strand whether to use static or dynamic tape.

KNOWN ISSUE: If you are having issues with changing the keybindings in the INI not taking effect in the game, add a single blank line at the top of your INI file.

KNOWN ISSUE: You may need to install a modified gameconfig.xml, depending on your version of GTA V. If you already have a modified gameconfig.xml to support add-on vehicles, you should be OK. If you haven't before and your game crashes on startup after installing Police Tape, you need to install a custom gameconfig. You can use the following LML package to install a compatible Gameconfig file:

What's New in Version 3.1

Released

Version 3.1:

  • Fixed possible crash when deleting individual tape strands from the tape management menu.
  • Updated to RageNativeUI 1.8.1

Previous updates:

Spoiler

Version 3.0:

  • Added the much-requested option to spawn just barricades without any police tape attached to them. This is available by entering the tape placement mode, selecting a barricade, and middle-clicking to spawn a barricade by itself, or left-clicking to spawn with tape attached.
  • Updated to RageNativeUI 1.7. Please make sure this file is up to date.
  • Added INI options to enable "alternate texture", "static tape", and "continuous mode" checkboxes by default.
  • Optimized performance of traffic control checks to significantly reduce the FPS impact when there are many tape strands spawned.
  • Added DLC installation option. LML is still recommended, but the DLC is available for those who prefer it.

Version 2.1:

  • Fixed bug causing INI Keybindings section to not be read correctly
  • Clarified instructions for installing alternate police tape textures
  • Updated for compatibility with new ParksTools.dll version

Version 2.0:

  • Added static tape option
  • Updated API
  • Improved traffic control algorithms
  • Added support for new versions of ParksTools.dll and for Coastal Callouts
  • Improved Police Tape menu
  • Other misc bug fixes

how to get the menu to pop up and how to uninstall if we don't like it no more. specific instruction should be included common.

The keybindings are in the INI, but by default it's Shift+H to start placement and Ctrl+G to manage tape.

I will write up some uninstallation instructions. Basically, just delete the plugin files and delete the DLC.

    To uninstall:

    • Remove PoliceTape.dll and PoliceTape.pdb from your GTA V\Plugins folder
    • Go to (mods)\update\update.rpf\common\data\dlclist.xml, and remove the line with "<Item>dlcpacks:\policetape\</Item>"
    • Go to (mods)\update\x64\dlcpacks\ and delete the policetape folder

I will make an OIV uninstaller later this week, but there's the manual uninstall instructions for now.

The DLL file is installed to the Plugins folder by the OIV installer. If you don't see file extensions, try turning them on in Explorer.

You need to load the plugin somehow, either auto-load it or load it from the RPH console.

Any chance we could get an option to rebind some of the keybindings for placing etc? Only my middle mouse button doesn't work making this plugin a bit impossible to use.

Such a great mod.  I've been waiting for this.  I love how the tape blows in the breeze.  One suggestion, actual yellow police tape.

Those use the game's keybindings for various actions. I believe that's the "take selfie" action? Press ESC, go to Settings, and find the Keybindings section, and look in the Cellphone section (IIRC). When you see the middle click icon in there that's the one you need to change.

    Looks really good.

My advice is to go ahead and include a readme file.  You have to remember there is still a lot of new people coming to LSPDFR.  The modders forget that.  You have an OIV install package which is nice for new people to install it.  However, there is nothing in the description unless I missed it as to which button to open the menu etc.  Or even a readme file included in the download as to how to use the mod.  I have been doing this a long time so I new that the OIV had to install the plugin somewhere and I dived into the folders and found it and saw the ini file.  But once again new people will never know to do this.

Good suggestion. There IS a readme file (assuming I included it in the ZIP upload correctly, I think so), and there is some more readme info in the OIV installer itself. But it sounds like I should include a little bit more info to help new users figure it out. I'm going to be out for most of the day but will add some more info and reupload it later today.

You probably just need to adjust the Readme file bro.  It just talks about the wrapper info.  Nothing about how to open or use.    Also,  it looks really good.  I will include a video in an upcoming review.  I do that with most modders on the site.  Thanks!

Just updated the readme, nothing else changed in download. Hopefully that helps people figure it out a bit better.

Having too many plugins in the plugins folder seem to crash LSPDFR when opening C+ For a lot of people, I hope this plugin will be fine. I want to have them all....the ones You have added and have already, really makes my game complete.

When you launch RAGEHook click the cog icon, then navigate to options and select to not load any plugins at startup.
Once you are in the game, open the console by pressing F4 and the type in ReloadAllPlugins. That should do the trick.
After that, I believe you the next time you launch GTA you will be able to revert RAGEHook settings and load all the plugins at startup (granted you selected Remember my choice option when accepting the terms).

Oop, in this situation I have no idea. I would try to reinstall the mod and if that doesn't work, move your plugins + mods folder somewhere else and go through step by step process of elimination.
It might be that two mods don't like eachother and this is the result.
Sorry but this is the best that I can do, maybe someone else, more experienced might help you.
