It's Los Santos... people get shot, people get run over, things catch fire... and it's usually all your fault. Eventually, you need to do something to keep nosy bystanders out of your business. Ever wished you could quickly close off a freeway so no cars can get by? Ever wanted to block off the scene of a dead body so that curious pedestrians couldn't tell who exactly shot them? Perhaps you just want to peacefully do some construction work, but oblivious drivers keep driving into your work zone. Or maybe you're fighting a fire, and need to stop rubberneckers from wandering into harm's way.

KNOWN ISSUE: The tape sometimes droops through the ground, especially when there is not much wind or with longer pieces of tape. User more barriers and shorter pieces of tape to help reduce this effect. This is due to the limitations of what cloth physics can do in zmodeler/GTA V. Version 2.0 adds static tape models which do not sag as an option. You can choose for each strand whether to use static or dynamic tape.

 

KNOWN ISSUE: If you are having issues with changing the keybindings in the INI not taking effect in the game, add a single blank line at the top of your INI file. 

 

KNOWN ISSUE: You may need to install a modified gameconfig.xml, depending on your version of GTA V. If you already have a modified gameconfig.xml to support add-on vehicles, you should be OK. If you haven't before and your game crashes on startup after installing Police Tape, you need to install a custom gameconfig. You can use the following LML package to install a compatible Gameconfig file:

  • Recompiled for latest game version due to changed GameControl enum.

  • Added the much-requested option to spawn just barricades without any police tape attached to them. This is available by entering the tape placement mode, selecting a barricade, and middle-clicking to spawn a barricade by itself, or left-clicking to spawn with tape attached.

Any change of editing "place only barrier key" often times it ends up triggering the scroll wheel instead of the middle mouse button (the INI doesnt have an option to change this)

Would you consider adding a hotkey to remove all of the tapes and barriers that were placed?

The mod is great, but I'm just wondering, how do I install custom models? What do I name them and where do I put the name if that makes sense?

Honestly, the install process for this mod is WAY too complicated and just a general pain. First off, LML is not currently up to date so I had to use the DLC method and even when I added the additional XML file mentioned in the readme the game still crashed and said that it was corupted and I had to revalidate the files to get it to launch again. Unless you can simplify the install process to a simple drag and drop situation, this mod is straight up not worth the effort of its install, considering there is an option to shut down nearby traffic in base LSPDFR.

You don't need LML to use police tape. the base LSPDFR traffic shut down method is broken.

I wish it were easier to install addon file mods, but there's nothing I can do about this. The game is not designed to accommodate adding new content, so you have to jump through some hoops to do so, regardless of what you're adding. Any add-on mod is going to require a gameconfig and heap adjuster, that's just how it is. The point of this mod is provide a police tape functionality for those who want that, and it does so as simply as possible. If you just want to stop traffic, there are certainly plenty of other mods available. 

 

For what it's worth, LML is nearly drag-and-drop, and works just fine on the latest game version. You just need to make sure you install a gameconfig and heap adjuster.

I think that the static version is kind of unreal and a bit too static. Maby a bit movment but not as much as the normal one. I think that it should have little movment if possible but atleast not a staright line. For example like this found under the pier in los santos. Its kind of a bit bend and not that static and like a straight line that could dissapere from some angles. But lovley mod and it has put so much realism and fun to my gameplay otherwise. See this more as a tip to make the mod better if possible. Sorry for bad english

Thank you for the suggestion, and I'm glad you enjoy the mod. Unfortunately, due to the way the game's physics engine works, it isn't possible to customize how much the tape sags, hence why there are two options for static and moving. The moving does sag more than I would prefer, but that's just how the game handles cloth physics when an object is resized.

Not compatible with Enhanced, as it uses memory patterns which would need to be updated and I don't know what they are in Enhanced.

You can edit the textures to change what is shown on the tape.

Hi, I'm having a problem with the mod. When I try to place the tape and click, the mod glitches and the character throws Chop's ball. Also, it won't let me select cones, barriers, etc.

Make sure you are using the correct version. If you are on the latest game version, you must download the update that was posted a few weeks ago. If you're on an older version, use the previous version of the download. The game controls used in the mod were changed by R* in the Dec 2025 update.
