Firstly the reason the title has a question mark is I am putting this forward as a question, but mostly I'm just telling of my experience today. Every month or so I check for driver updates. Sound, GFX, etc. Like most people my game does crash now and then, but on the whole not often. I can play for 90 minutes with no issues. This morning I updated my Audio drivers to Realtek version R2.66 . It was the only driver that needed updating and was overdue it seems as it was released on 21st of October. My OS is 64bit windows 7. After this update my game began to crash whenever a helicopter turned up. Either by calling support, or just driving over a bridge and encountering a heli. (I know a lot of people complain about crashing when heli's turn up but I had never had this happen before.) So...bad instal I thought, so I resinstaled the driver, restarted pc etc. Same story, and always crash on arrival of Heli. I then rolled back the driver and all was well again. OK, by no means is this conclusive in any way. Just saying what happened today. Ive not heard of anyone else having issues with R2.66 but I do hear a lot about crashes when Heli's arrive. Iv'e never had an issue before where it seemed my Audio drivers were causing issues but maybe it's something to keep in mind if anyone is having issues and has updated their driver recently. The reason as I said the title has a question mark was I never realised Audio drivers could cause such problems. So even though the evidence in my case does seem solid I still leave it open. TLDR: If you started to suddenly crash and normally don't, and have updated your realtek driver to R2.66 in the last month keep an open mind and concider a rollback.

Els, any version, has nothing whatsoever to do with the voice over. "If you use the SHIT key with the light mode 3, it shouldn't play the megaphone speech." (I didn't edit that cause who knows, maybe he does play with "shit" key. Prob' has cocks lock too :p

You might be able to delete the relevant wav file relating to the speach maybe, i'm not sure. Also there are a hell of a lot of wav files to go through to find the right ones. Also not sure how the game will react when it cant find the file. Guess could replace it with recorded silence. Just kinda thinking out loud here :) It's prob in one of the groups in PC/ audio / SFX / speach rpf. Will take some searching as each police type ie: state trooper /fat cop etc etc etc will have their own speach relating to pullover and each officer has anywhere between 100 and over 300 speach lines hehe.

Domestic disturbance is normally first call simply because it is the most common call I guess. Not the greatest of calls but police work is a combination of mundane and repetative, with peaks of excitement and danger. I don't mind the call it's just having to walk up 3 flights of stairs on most of them to make an arrest. Though often if you wait the subject comes outside.

Are you starting your game from the same save each time ? Reason I ask is if you are then the time of day will be same each time and I find time of day especially dawn and dusk are the most resource hungry times on my PC. It's just that you say it happens like clockwork at a specific amount of time into the game. Use trainer to change time and also weather if need be and see if it has any effect. Could end up just being a small 15 minute time frame where this happens. Worth a try. Also use Gameboosters defrag tool to defrag your GTA folder. After heavy modding I find it ends up all over the place.

You actually said you clicked the "box", was trying to make sure you knew it was the "logout box", there are more than one box on the screen. nvm, wont happen again.

Nice use of subtitles. Was concidering doing something similar. Like everything else, I will get around to it :) What fps capture did you use to record in fraps ? I'm getting on a bit and like to watch vids in full screen otherwise I can't see detail :p but watching youtube stuff in 480p in fullscreen is a pita. 720HD is much better. A bit too dark for my tastes but thats just me. +1

tbh this is a minefield. Not trying to insult you but you don't seem to have much knowledge about gfx cards or how PC's work, and thats ok. It's not against the law not to know these things. I just worry that you might spend your money on a card that still gives you rubbish frame rates or even worse your power supply wont be able to run. There are a lot of things to take into concideration. It took me a month of research hardware when I built my PC and I'm not exagerating. Icon' gave you a rough idea of what price range was needed to play gta iv at a decent level and you kept linking $40 cards. Money is not the be all and end all but you tend to get what you pay for. I hope you do find a great deal but you wont find a card at $40 that will play gta iv well. Trying not to be harsh here but to prevent a situation where you spend your cash and end up with the same frame rates as you have now.. I stronly advice research. That means teaching yourself the basics of PC graphics cards.... Whatch some you tube stuff, reviews, how to vids, what graphic card etc etc. Read read read and read... Lets keep it really simple to start with. You need to make sure your power supply can run any new card you install. Work out how much you will spend. We would all like to spend less but really the gfx card is the heart and soul of any gaming pc so you can not skimp in this area. Come to a number you are willing to spend then look for cards in that range. No good saying you want to spend $200 then looking at $40 cards. What do you actually want from this card ? just to be able to play gta IV ? Cause your current card does that, but you know only too well that it does a poor job at that. Lets avoid your new card only giving a slight improvement and you ending back in same position. Lastly pay attention to what Icon said, he gives good advice on the whole :) Sorry if that was all a bit harsh but this thread was going in circles.

Nice Vid. Only took a brief look for now will watch in full later. The thing I like about comentary vids is they are unique. Don't know why you think your voice is annoying but I think most people hate the sound of their own voice. You just sound like a thousand other people I have heard speaking on teamspeak. In another game I used to play it took me a year before I would speak on teamspeak :) I think a lot of people are the same. Now I don't think twice about it. Personally I can do without the swearing tbh, not that you actually swear that much as far as I can see after the warning at the begining I was expecting worse lol. But anyway don't change that if thats how you are, because you will only be good at commentary if you continue to be yourself. So keep doing what you like doing and do it YOUR way. As soon as people start to try and please everyone thier vids become boring and like everyone elses. Again being yourself is what makes these types of vids imo. Always happy to watch / listen to LCPDFR commentary vids. +1 to you. When I get on youtube later I will subscribe if your gonna do more. Also shooting the officer in the face by accident at the old casino @ 201 ftw And @ 630 as an Ex motorcycle rider in the past I have had that happen to me many times :) You learn in the end to predict people and give them a wide berth if theres any chance they are gonna open their door.

From what I can gather $200 dollars is way over his budget. Maybe half that by what I am seeing. Yes I know he typed $200 but I think he spoke to his dad since then :) Not sure what to suggest. Allthough the site he origionally linked doesn't seem that great on prices. I'm not from US so I will repeat what someone else said. Take a look at neweg. And yes 256 MB of video memory (V RAM) is not gonna cut it. 500mb Minimum 1 Gig prefered. The more you can spend the longer your PC will will continue to run new games in the future.

Some great info and some really usefull links in this thread. Looking around now it seems 911 FR is the North American release. The same game released in the UK is Emergency 4 global fighters for life. (same as Europe, not surprising) All the game sites I have looked at dispatch the English version to me :) Quite cheap too as far as games go. Gonna hold of ordering for a day or 2 just to make sure I have my facts right.

Just a note that I have steam version of GTA IV. I copied the GTA IV out of steam and put it elsewhere. Now I run GTA IV without steam eating my resources in the background.

Found a vid where someone had used another female model as police. Slightly better than the hookers but still the voice speeches just don't cut it. Also the long hair looks a bit odd.
