  1. Nothing changed in terms of the legality of modding. Google is not involved at all and most likely would not involve themselves in this. If anything, Take Two would abuse the content ID system to remove videos using mods, but I seriously doubt that would ever happen. Something seriously needs to be cleared up: Take Two does not and cannot make laws. They did not make modding "illegal." No one will ever be arrested for modding their game. Why GooD-NTS used the term "illegal" is beyond me, probably just for publicity.
  2. You would need to own (no pirates here, right?) and install GTA IV for it to work. If anything, it would have boosted sales for GTA IV.
  3. The Liberty City project was a tool that was in development that would transfer the map from GTA IV to GTA V. You would need to have GTA IV installed for it to work; there was not going to be any redistribution of any files. Apparently someone with media ties did see the actual letter which does specify not transferring content across games:
  4. You can say "you had to know this was coming because OpenIV was always in a legal grey area" but that isn't the issue. The issue, and what pisses me off, is that they sent the cease and desist because they think OpenIV is used to interfere with Online. Not because of the Liberty City project, not because it breaks the EULA, but because they actually think OpenIV is a source that Online modders/hackers use to disrupt other players. Were they legally in the right to do it? Perhaps. But their reasoning is completely fucked.
  5. I think we can keep this in this thread: If you feel this topic has been closed in error, please report this post.
  6. Please do not share links to download OpenIV. These are unauthorized and sharing them is against our Guidelines.
  7. There's enough threads on this topic. If you feel this topic has been closed in error, please report this post.

  9. Still waiting it seems. There is probably someone at Rockstar trying to write something, realizing it won't help, and throwing it in the garbage. I imagine there's a cliché garbage can full of crumpled paper in the PR department.
  10. According to GooD-NTS's edit on gtaforums, they specifically mention to stop the Liberty City in GTA V project: Meaning it is pretty likely that is why they are doing this. OpenIV has been around for ten years, but the Liberty City project has only been around for 6 months.
  11. I think it's more the statement this makes. Shutting down OpenIV is essentially Take Two saying they do not want anyone using mods in GTA, regardless on if you play Online. They probably didn't mean for it to be that way, to be fair they probably barely know what OpenIV does, but it makes a pretty big statement. Before, it was basically "don't ask, don't tell."
  12. We already have an active topic on the OpenIV shutdown: http://www.lcpdfr.com/forums/topic/75871-openiv-discontinued-take-two-game-modding-illegal/ This does not affect LSPDFR in anyway at this time. Modding is not "illegal" and that was a very poor choice of words on their behalf. It has always been against the EULA to modify the game, and now Take Two is acting on that. You still cannot be banned from playing the game for using mods in singleplayer, and no game can really ban you from actually playing singleplayer.
  13. Do not do either of these. Redistributing software you do not own is against our Community Guidelines, regardless of current events.
  14. The PCGamer article now states "Update: I've communicated with GooD-NTS via email and I believe this to be a legitimate legal notice sent on behalf of Take-Two. I've also received word from Rockstar that a statement will be issued "shortly" but I have not received it yet. I will update this story again if and when I receive the statement." So hopefully we get something from Rockstar soon. http://www.pcgamer.com/gta-modding-tool-openiv-shuts-down-claiming-cease-and-desist-from-take-two/
  15. I'll just add my +1 to this. I've never downloaded a plugin (aside from ones that are literally just a .dll) that is not already in the correct file structure. Makes it 1000x easier when you are installing/updating a ton of mods at once. It's kind of a general practice.

  17. Sorry about your PC being stolen, but I will have to lock this. You could probably find a 100% save somewhere, but someone providing the entire game with mods already installed would break various copyrights, so you will just have to download and install everything again. If you feel this topic has been closed in error, please report this post.
  18. LivePD is my current favorite. I can't even watch Cops anymore because it's so predictable compared to LivePD. Plus I feel like you get to know the officers/deputies/troopers since they are the same every episode (Corporal Moschetto of Calvert County, MD is best deputy).

  22. Many of the keys are tied to default game controls. You could probably edit the menu controls by editing the default game controls for menu navigation in the game options.
  23. No one said that. I suggest you stay on topic - this is about former Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
