  4. Volunteer experience is probably the biggest thing that most police agencies in Canada look for, and can imagine that most in the U.S. do aswell. By getting out there and showing a genuine interest in helping your community and helping others is what they're looking for. Multiple places are always looking for volunteers, food banks, libraries, fire departments (if they're volly), etc. Some sort of post-secondary also helps. My recruiter told me that you don't have to take a policing degree to get a job as a law enforcement officer. Trades, such as computer science, etc, that can give you some sort of an advantage as an officer are also good. But overall, giving some of your time to give back to your community is what they like to see. So I'd recommend volunteering.
  5. Unfortunately, you made a mistake, and you're no longer eligible for appointment as a peace officer in any State or Country at this time. I know an individual who was turned down because they had two charges on their youth record, one count of Consuming Alcohol while Underage, and another for Being Intoxicated in a Public Space. They remained squeaky clean from then on but the police still turned them down for something that happened when they were a teenager. That individual is in a bit of a better position than you are, however, because they will still accept them, they just have to remain clean for another three years of any detected and undetected criminal activity, and they will have another shot at applying. I can't think of any time I've heard of an individual being accepted into the police with a felony charge on an adult record. Regardless to the fact if it has been pardoned or not. If it's there, chances are they'll kindly show you the door. As much as it does suck to have to face the fact that you are no longer eligible for the appointment, don't let me, or anyone else here stop you. If you want to still go ahead and attempt to get a pardon for the offence, and attempt to take entry exams for different agencies, go for it. I just highly doubt that any agency you attempt to apply for is going to see a felony involving some sort of bb gun, and allow you to carry a real firearm. If you're incapable of handling a bb gun, which is treated as a firearm, they're not going to be able to trust you with handling a real, live, firearm.
  6. An airsoft, pellet, bb gun, paintball gun, etc, are all treated as a firearm. They may not fire bullets, but they do shoot a projectile that can cause serious harm if you're not on a field with proper protective clothing/eye protection. Any weapon of that sort will always be treated as a firearm, especially if it's black without an orange tip. It even says on most, if not all airsoft gun instructions to 'treat the weapon as if it were a real firearm'.
