It's often jokes upon in the emergency services that they are the last few professions that still make house calls. But carbon monoxide and smoke are no joking matter. Lakeview County Fire Services alongside Elkridge State Paramedics were called to a residence in Sandy Shores after a resident had called their neighbor, stating they were not feeling very well. The neighbor proceeded to call 911 to have an ambulance dispatched. EMS crews arrived, but thanks to a clip-on gas monitor on the EMS 'jump kit,' which sounded when they approached the front door, EMS crews were able to determine there were high levels of carbon monoxide present in the residence. Fire Services attended and ensured all three residents, and one dog were brought safely outside of the home for assessment. All three persons in the home, two adults and a juvenile were transported to the City of Elk Grove for intensive care, and the dog was brought to an emergency veterinary clinic for assessment. Their conditions remain unknown. The Fire Services are still on scene trying to determine how the leak started, and have also provided two free smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to the residence as part of the smoke alarm initiative started by the State of Elkridge.

The City of Elk Grove called upon their neighbors in Lakeview County to respond and assist with an outside fire earlier this week. With temperatures starting to rise, fire crews have been dealing with an influx of outside fire calls both in and out of the City of Elk Grove. Firefighters remind citizens not to throw cigarette butts out of their car windows, and if having campfires or taking part in any outside burning, to make sure that firefighting measures are in place, and that once done burning, ensuring the fire is properly extinguished.

After it was apparent to city council that the apparatus existing in the City of Elk Grove, a tender was put out to various fire apparatus manufacturers. After receiving a competitive and attractive offer from Pierce Manufacturing, the City of Elk Grove purchased eight new fire apparatus for this year, and an additional to be purchased for next year. After eight months of waiting, three of the new apparatus arrived, with the other five being transported to the city shortly. RCMP have released new details regarding a robbery that took place yesterday afternoon. A previous release indicated that the store clerk was going to be facing no charges. RCMP have stated today that the store clerk has since been charged with a criminal code offence. "The store clerk was found to have used the firearm carelessly, after a complaint emerged to us about a motorist having their vehicle struck by what appeared to be a stray buck from the shotgun." said Sergeant Thomas with the Blaine County RCMP. "The roadway isn't located too far away from the building, and the possibility of a ricochet off of the metal door frame is entirely reasonable to assume." "We're still investigating whether the complaint and allegations are true, but our investigators have determined that the store clerk did act negligently in discharging the firearm towards the fleeing robber." Residents in the area spoke out on social media, some saying that they're now unsure how to defend their own property without being charged with something themselves. One other man is in custody after allegedly robbing the store and various other locations, and has yet to be named. The store clerk will not be named at this time, but they are facing the charge 'Careless use of a firearm' under Criminal Code section 86. "We have to take in account everyones safety. A passerby was put in a position of danger based off of a careless choice. The primary suspect was fleeing. Discharging the firearm in this instance was careless." The store clerk has been released on conditions and promise to appear, and is scheduled to appear before a justice on March 6, 2018. RCMP investigating after a robbery took place at a local liquor store, where the store clerk ultimately discharged a shotgun towards the armed suspect while they were fleeing from the store. The armed suspect was able to get away but was located a short distance away, unconscious, supposedly from shock after being struck in the arm by a large piece of glass due to the shotgun blast. One man who cannot be named until charges have been formally laid against him, has been remanded into custody and is facing numerous criminal code offences. The store clerk faces no charges.

Elkridge State approved the purchase of an air ambulance unit in 2017; EMS officials received the new helicopter just a week ago, and training of the pilots and air medical staff has been underway for the past week.

I was walking through the neighborhood of Elk Grove Regional Health and noticed that Elkridge State EMS' Lakeview 1A5 was parked in the bay. Pretty rare to see 1A5 down in the city. Figured I'd take some snaps quick.
