  1. In fact, if it comes down to this, it can hurt you to do this - it shows that you know that it *is* copyright infringement.
  2. A standalone would crash a LOT more. Reason: Making a game is HARD. It's really easy for bugs to creep in; GTA itself has its fair share, and it was developed by a large group of professional programmers with years of experience.

  4. That was certainly true when ELS used the extras system the normal way (adding/removing extras) [and, incidentally, issues like this are probably *why* adding and removing extras makes the car reset all damage, and why the things that led to god mode and door flapping were originally put in IV]. However, I'm not sure it's still necessarily the case. As of version 8.0, ELS works by turning on and off rendering of the extras; I'm not sure how it works internally, but it may be possible to extend *that* to non-extra parts.
  5. No, GTA doesn't make you ragdoll when shot. It's hardcore mode doing that; just turn it off to stop it.
  6. The vast majority of states don't require *any* sort of traffic advisor, and not all departments use them. However, police cars practically have to have some sort of emergency lighting facing backwards for visibility purposes, and taillights generally aren't enough - they're just not visible enough.

Also, because that's what the word "tester" means - testers receive unreleased things in order to check and make sure if they work.
  8. That's not quite true. Coronas in ELS 8 are placed in the position of various dummies on cars; for most, they should already be in the right spot (because IV uses them too), but for extras 5 and 6, coronas may be in the wrong spot. However, you can always not use coronas, at which point this isn't an issue. You'll just have to update the ELS vehicle configs.

  12. ASI files are compiled C++ code. It's not possible to simply "edit" them.
  13. Shouldn't the link be gta-mod-center.com, not gta-modding-chest.com?
  14. I think we generally got tz71's point. Can we move on, please?
  15. Reseating the memory (taking it out and putting it back in) is, as people have said, most likely the best option. If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, find a computer repair store in your area; it'd cost money, but they'll be able to do this for you.
  16. Then it might be a regional thing, not as much of a big department/small department thing.
  17. No, really, more like "if you aren't justified in using force without regard to keeping him alive, a firearm is not an appropriate weapon to use". The notion that there is some less-lethal way to shoot someone is entirely divorced from reality; if you *are* shooting someone, the only valid reason is that you had a reasonable belief that killing them was necessary to save the life of someone else. Also, generally it's considered a *bad* thing to shoot all the bystanders, because you *will* miss someones arms and legs (they move extremely quickly; center mass is a larger target and moves more smoothly), and even if you hit them, it's easy for the shot to go *through* the person and hit something else. Also, hitting them is not necessarily any less fatal than a center mass shot, but is MUCH worse at *stopping* someone. This isn't unique to police - if you try to shoot someone and choose your target based on anything other than "what will stop this person as fast as possible", you're committing a presumptively unjustified assault with a deadly weapon. US police receive defensive tactics training, and use that in preference to using weapons. However, this person had a knife, and there is no martial art that reliably beats a knife.
  18. I'm not in the UK, so I can't answer that. Police don't quite shoot to *kill*; they shoot to *stop*, but make no attempt whatsoever to stop in a less-than-fatal way. If the suspect stops being a threat, they stop shooting, but at least in the US, they never, ever, EVER should shoot in the arm or leg - it's an excellent way to kill innocent bystanders while missing the suspect entirely, and if you *do* hit someone in the arm or leg, it can still easily be fatal. Shooting in the leg or arm is Hollywood crap, where the heroes never miss, there is such a thing as "only a flesh wound", overpenetration isn't an issue, and police chiefs are fine with cops blatantly violating the rights of suspects as long as "damn it, they get the job done".
  19. Because it was getting up there in years, very fuel-inefficient (important to police departments, whose cars get a TON of miles on them), unsafe, and generally becoming not cost-effective. The Crown Victoria isn't some archetypal police car, used by departments from the beginning of time. It was introduced in the 90s, and back then faced stiff competition from the Chevy Caprice (which, at the time, was probably *more* iconic as a cop car). The CVPI only became the "default" police car in the 2000s. Now, it's true that the full-size Ford sedan, whatever name it carried, has long been a police staple. But it's by no means been the only one, nor is it particularly the best. What makes the Crown Vic different from literally any other police car that, in its time, dominated the fleet market? The Crown Vic was by no means the first such car (unless you think cops walked beats and rode horses until 1992), and it won't be the last.
  20. In the context of game modding, "vanilla" refers to unmodded content that shipped with the original game - "vanilla install" would then refer to an install with absolutely no mods, "vanilla cars" are the Rockstar-made cars that came with GTA IV and EFLC, etc.
