  1. It looks like it will *be* an RPG, according to the site - you have a persistent character, who develops as you play. In which case: meh, RPGs aren't generally my cup of tea.
  2. No it wouldn't. If they had, they would deserve to be brought up on criminal charges, such as reckless endangerment, felony assault, and possibly felony murder. First off, they'd miss - police shoot center-of-mass because your center of mass presents a large target, and because it doesn't jerk around a lot (it moves smoothly). Every missed shot poses a lethal threat to bystanders - they miss even shooting center-of-mass, but they'd miss a *lot* more shooting the extremities. Second, the fact that they're shooting arms and legs means they think lethal force isn't needed (else they'd be shooting to kill, not to wound), and yet they're still using it (the situation *can* be different when police snipers are involved in a situation where there's a clear perimeter, the situation is more under control, and there's lots of communication - there, it *might* be justified if lethal force is justified and other officers are standing by to shoot center-of-mass if need be).
  3. The function it's attempting to call was added in Vista. ELS is trying to make a system call which simply doesn't exist in XP. If it required compiling the mod on XP to fix, you'd be *completely* out of luck; it's objectively unreasonable to expect Caine to get Windows XP just to compile his mod to support it. But it's slightly different: The API function ELS uses isn't there. There's a dependency to a function in the Windows API DLL that isn't in the DLL. The only fix would be to replace the function; this might be possible, but Caine may have chosen GetTickCount64 for a good reason. Now, this call could potentially be replaced if ELS detects it's running on XP. Caine might be willing to do that. Alternatively, if this is being used to handle light flash ticks, it's possible that GetSystemTimeAsFileTime might work as well (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms724397(v=vs.85).aspx ). However, if this doesn't work, then it's likely that the mod wasn't actually tested much on XP, so there may be other bugs. Advice: Drop XP now. It's past end-of-life, with no more security patches, no bugfixes, nothing. It should be presumed to be insecure. It was first released 13 years ago. Running it on your computer is a serious security risk; if you're willing to put up with a serious security risk to play GTA with full graphics, then get a newer computer that can do so with an operating system that still gets patched. But you should not be using XP. Period.
  4. LCPDFR and ELS v8 both come with a file called "AdvancedHook.dll". You need to use the version that came with ELS, *not* the one that came with LCPDFR - the LCPDFR one is slightly older, and doesn't have the features the ELS one needs (this will change with future versions of LCPDFR, but for 1.0b, the ELS AdvancedHook replaces the LCPDFR one). So, just go to your ELS v8 download, drag "AdvancedHook.dll" into your main directory, and that should stop this crash. About 0.91 - That version is frankly ancient, and there have been *2* newer versions - 0.95 and 1.0. With 0.95, we initially said "it's not stable, so use 0.91 if you want support", but eventually dropped support on 0.91 entirely. LCPDFR 0.91 should not be assumed to work with any LCPDFR-related mods developed since 2012 or so - they're all designed to work more with LCPDFR 0.95 or 1.0.
  5. No, this area is for support with the LCPDFR mod only; other issues go into GTA IV Support Requests. I'm moving this thread there now.
  6. Are the emissives under the tailgate in the hierarchy, or were they just placed where the lights are when the tailgate is closed? With ELS <8, it didn't matter, as the tailgate auto-closed when ELS was turned on (actually, I suspect this is one reason Rockstar made adding extras also reset the car - so that the extras spawn in the right position, and you don't have an undamaged taxi sign hovering over a severely warped taxi roof). However, now, if you want the extras to go up when the tailgates do, you'll have to do whatever you do with the light frames (which I think is adding them under the tailgate, or maybe attaching the mesh or something - I'm not a car modeler :P).
  7. Only if it's an unlocked model.
  8. You want to edit the taxi sign textures and make them much, much darker.
  9. What I do when I get that is wait a couple minutes before trying again.
  10. From what I understand, you can tase someone with a knife, provided you have backup officers with firearms. Tasers aren't just for single-officer use; you can have multiple officers providing a range of force options.
  11. a) As mentioned previously in this thread, rank-and-file NYPD officers don't carry Tasers. b) Part of the reason why is the risk that they'll treat them like you apparently would have.
  12. Open up AdvancedHook.log and post the contents here.

  14. You must install the ELS 8 AdvancedHook *over* the LCPDFR one; the LCPDFR one doesn't have the functions ELS 8 requires (this will be remedied in future versions of LCPDFR).

  17. Actually, it's *less* essential in big cities, where backup is more likely. In a situation where a Taser might be needed, it's pretty easy for an NYPD officer to call ESU or a supervisor, and they can quickly respond. In a small town with one cop on duty, he needs to be able to handle whatever comes up. And Tasers aren't necessarily better from a liability standpoint; the risk is that cops overuse them, and they're decidedly not non-lethal (they're called "less-lethal" for a reason). Officers have nightsticks and pepper spray, as well as hands, feet, and 34,000 fellow officers. There's no need to give everyone the very-easily-abused Taser. It's a specialty device, for specialty situations, and in a big-city department you can call another unit for the specialty situation.
  18. I don't think regular NYPD officers *have* Tasers; I'm pretty sure they're restricted to ESU and sergeants. Regular NYC cops have a pistol, baton, maybe pepper spray (not sure between baton/pepper spray), and that's it - the rank and file doesn't have shotguns or rifles in their car, and aren't issued Tasers. In general, Tasers are almost never universally issued in a big department - they require special training, and that takes time and money.
  19. ELS v8's main new feature is that the door and godmode bug has been fixed; instead of adding and removing extras, it turns on and off the *rendering* of extras. It also has support for coronas, which means a takedown light can actually *look* like a takedown light, and wigwags can work with lights like the default headlights. Those are the biggest changes.
  20. MODERATOR NOTICE Thread moved.
  21. If a change were made, it'd more likely be in adding an ELS 5/6 pattern to ELS 8, not going back to the ELS 5/6 code and changing the core of how ELS operates.
  22. No one involved with ELS 7 ever made that claim. People not involved occasionally did, because people like to claim that all sorts of things they want will actually happen, but no one who actually worked on or had access claimed that the door bug was fixed, because it wasn't. What was claimed for v7 was increased stability, which, in the experience of the testers, it generally had. ELS 7's core features were vastly improved per-vehicle configuration, light staging and other new light modes, vastly improved siren capability, increased stability, and that sort of thing. Door bug fixing was never claimed.
  23. However, when my game crashes, it complains about AdvancedHook.dll: Light patterns also don't seem to be working for me. You can hear the function sounds when you press the buttons, but nothing else occurs. Can anyone help us out? EDIT: Mine is now working after removing xlive.dll and xlive_d.dll; however, I can no longer run my game without R* Social Club. I like running IV without Social Club so I can manage my save games. EDIT2: After adding xlive.dll and xlive_d.dll back into the game and removing dsound.dll, it crashes upon starting any light pattern with ELS. Your AH.dll is the wrong version - the right one would say "permission for LCPDFR and ELS only".
  24. It looks like it's spawning environment lighting elsewhere than where it should. Try changing the positions in the INI?
  25. No, ELS 8 uses AH to get around the issue. However, that means ELS.asi has to be coded to *use* AH. You can't just modify an ASI; it's compiled C++ code, and ELS is not open source (nor is AH).
