Good Graphics Card for GTA IV?
You're getting an Aurora? Tip: Alienware tends to be way overpriced. If you do get it, though, you don't need to worry about the graphics card.

You can use GDDR3 with a DDR2 MB. All that matters is that the PCIe is compatible, and 2.0 and 1.0 are apparently compatible.

Wait, never mind. I didn't know memory was resolution, but I just checked, and it is. BTW, != means "does not equal" in programming (and has spread to other things on the internet).

What? Memory != resolution. EDIT: This is wrong; memory does just matter for resolution. I'm leaving it to not cover up my mistake.

I was responding to the "6850 has a good fan" comment. Also, you've reminded my of my first attempt to build a system. Protip: Pentium D chips run hot. If you don't cool them right, your system will shut down every 5 minutes or so, and you'll wind up with permanent damage.

The cooling is card-dependent (5770, 4350, 6850, etc., all just designate the GPU, memory, ports, etc. Basically, it determines the "system specs" of the card. The rest, including cooling, is done by the card manufacturer.)

Yep. I use a 5770, because it was a reasonable price and works fairly well (I used to use a 4770 or so [can't remember], but it overheated and shut off my computer when playing Portal: Prelude and HL2:E1)

Sgt. Ace, I'd have to agree with Marine831 on the card. It's too weak a card to be great for this role. Get a better graphics card.

According to WP, they mostly are backwards compatible. You can use PCIe 2 cards in 1.0 slots, and vice versa. The data rate is less, but it still works (and, AFAIK, the data rate isn't critical to performance; the card itself handles most of the work).

All that matters is the PCIe thing (which is a legitimate potential issue). The MB doesn't care what's on the graphics card, and vice versa. The graphics card has its own processor that handles graphics; the MB talks to that.

PCIe is not outdated. It is the current spec. Also, current graphics are GDDR5, not DDR3 (DDR3 is a RAM spec).

Many companies try to produce products of reasonable quality, and programmers tend to *like* improving their code. However, keep in mind that Rockstar is owned by Take-Two Interactive, which is a publicly traded company. Not only is is reasonable for them to try to make money, they are legally obligated to try to make money for shareholders. Thus, Rockstar is pushed to increase profit.

No, the slot has nothing to do with DDR2 or DDR3. The slot is PCIe, which is a completely different standard. Can you post your current card? (I mean the exact card, not another one in the same family)

DDR2 means something completely different for main memory and graphics cards. For computers, it's old but OK (the most recent is DDR3). For graphics cards, it's ancient (most recent is GDDR5) [for graphics cards, progression was DDR, DDR2, GDDR3 (improvement on DDR2), GDDR4 (based on DDR3), GDDR5].

There almost was. Look up Able Archer.

Police Shoot-out Where I Lived
AR-15? It's even easier to get semi-auto weapons; it's not like you need an old or specially modified ones. Also, you can fire FAST with semi-autos. I agree that this is a stupid debate, though.
-
Police Shoot-out Where I Lived
Bolt action and automatic aren't the only options. Semi-automatic weapons are a thing. If that's what you were referring to, sorry for the misunderstanding.
-
Police Shoot-out Where I Lived
Why are you assuming it was automatic? Automatic weapons are actually not very common in crimes. GTA's representation is pretty much the opposite of reality.
-
Police Shoot-out Where I Lived
If that happened, I don't think they would have any trouble getting another department to patrol.

Police Shoot-out Where I Lived
Generally, people are discouraged from viewing killing as "fun".

North Korea fails again
I thought you were talking about China in that first post I replied to. My bad.

North Korea fails again
@unreal: There's not that big of a difference between missiles and rockets. Rocket programs and missile program have historically been linked. @Marine: The total DoD budget for last year was $707.5 billion. China's GDP was $5,930 billion. (for reference, TOTAL defense-related spending in the US, including such things as veteran's affairs, is some $1,030 to $1,415 billion.) China's military is FAR larger than ours. They are not very deployable compared to the US Army; logistics is a specialty of the US, and our military is pretty much the most mobile one in history. However, Korea is right in their backyard.
