Petition to Take-Two Interactive & Rockstar Games RE: OpenIV closing

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

I created a petition against the closing of OpenIV to TTI, and R* Games:

"For 10 years now the Grand Theft Auto series has been edited and modded by people to make the game more enjoyable. Hundreds if not thousands of people have bought one or all of Grand Theft Auto: SA, Grand Theft Auto IV, and Grand Theft Auto V. The modding of these games have been done mostly in singleplayer and with the help of OpenIV, a software that lets you get into the game's files and replace vehicles, scripts, textures, etc. The closing of OpenIV leaves 1000s of people without access to be able to mod their games, and leaves 1000s of people without the ability to continue their hobbies. All modding used by OpenIV is for singleplayer use only to make the game more enjoyable, the software OpenIV was never used to mod multiplayer or Grand Theft Auto Online so it does not harm anyone. Myself, and other members of the LSPDFR and GTA modding community ask that OpenIV be allowed to continue distributing and running as a modding software. Thank you."

This is something very odd with Take2. Many gaming companies (Especially open world games it would seem) are fairly open to the idea of modding. Some prime examples being Arma, 911:First Responders (Although the newer games aren't exactly mod friendly), Cities: Skylines, etc. All of these Devs seem to realize that modding keeps a game alive. I just can't believe that the GTA devs have failed to recognize how the modding community has kept these games alive for years after their expiration date.

What you people need to be petitioning is having the retards over at OpenIV stop forcing users to uninstall their software. This alone is a violation of the user's rights. There is no reason to force a user to uninstall your software because some lawyer at T2I said they don't like custom modifications.

That being said, I sure am glad I got out of this shit before this went down.

Add Fallout and Skyrim. Those are huge AAA games that support modding

Steam/PSN: MikoFiticus, Origin: Admira1Snackbarr. Feel free to add me, I play lots of games!

If it wasn't already obvious, R* is lead by idiots, they already made their subscription based desires clear. They want to pump out tons of online content so people buy microtransactions and they keep raking the money in with little to no work. Modding takes away from their potential revenue, I'm already done with them, I play GTA because I LOVE LSPDFR and DOJRP, but I don't see myself supporting this shady company. I just hope we can find a way to continuously mod GTA V in the future to come.

With the paid mods bs and now "Creation Club", I'd be hesitant to give them ideas about profiting from mods.

You are using the WRONG right theme!

Numbnuts. Closing down a tool that has gained them so much coin the last decade. Well done RockTard Games. Loosing both moneh and potential customers still wanting to buy the GTA franchise. Well done *slow clap*

Let's all salute the creator of OpenIV and GIMS for his awesome tools all these years, and what a journey it has been.

From editing taxi signs to your favorite neighbourhood shady-taxi, to creating complete addons like LCPDFR/LSPDFR. Whatever the mod, it has learned me atleast a heap of stuff that i never before GTA had the pleasure or interest to learn.

So many thanks! And i really hope that all this attention towards R* and TT will be frutiful! (mmm fruits)

Firsty out!

This is unbelievably stupid. It's annoying to us, sure, but It'll be fairly devastating for rockstar. If GTA isn't moddable, I guarantee they lose at least half of the people that play single player even on a semi-regular basis. I can't remember the last time I played online, and I know there are tens of thousands of people like me. There's pretty much NO reason to buy any rockstar game on PC as opposed to consoles now. I'll just pick up GTA 6 for Xbox one, play through the single player once and never play the game again. Their PC sales will PLUMMET

The deeming of modding "illegal" was done by Take Two Interactive Rockstar's parent/mother company/publisher. Rockstar Games has come out before support modding their game but Take Two I guess it much more against it and has called it illegal in all of its games including Mafia, NBA 2K17, and Rockstar Games.

Pissed beyond belief right now. I hope something can change this.

Maybe a go fund me for lawyers to fight Rockstar's order?

You do realise the sheer size of Rockstar and Take Two, right?

Notice how on the steam store page, nowhere does it say that modifying the game is prohibited and/or illegal
