What was that part about the police officer being run over in 2001? Reenacting Need for Speed? That's a load of bull, there's NEVER been pedestrians, yet alone police officers, that you can run over i

  • Holy crap what a joke of a report... The funny thing is I reckon most of the people who play LSPDFR are some of the more pro-police individuals who are probably more sympathetic to the troubles office

Hey everyone; Alex Walker here, editor of Kotaku Australia. (Different company to Kotaku in the US, FYI.)

I've been chasing up Channel Seven's "report", if you can call it that. And while I'm waiting to hear back from Rockstar and the NSW Police as to what they might actually do, I'd like to get some more comments from the community about how everyone feels about this.

I pinged a member from the Emergency Australia GTA 4 mods group about this about the Aussie mods, and they've been very helpful. But I'd also like to chat to some others, and if by chance anyone happens to be serving in the emergency services I'd like to hear from you (anonymously if need be) as to your take on LSPDFR and everything that's unfolded.

Thanks, and sorry that everyone's been blindsided by what I think we can all agree is a truly shithouse piece of reporting.

Here's my word to Channel Seven. Don't recycle old news that's been done 20 times over. Another typical, "video games are bad!" blow. Maybe find some "real news" (<big words) Before you know it, "Who is this hacker, "LCPDFR"?" Typical buffoons at the news media.

As one of the "underground hacker geeks" who's Youtube clips were used in this "news" segment, I'd be happy to have a chat. Will also be putting together a video hopefully by tonight showing the context they carefully edited out of the clips from my channel.

The key thing they've missed (or intentionally misrepresented) is that this mod isn't even about shooting police. Quite the opposite! GTA V is about shooting police, LSPDFR turns that concept on its head and is about being the police. Chasing the bad guys. I think you'll be hard-pressed to find a group in this demographic (generally male, teen-mid 20s, gamers) that supports police as much as the members of this community.

So just to stir the pot a little more, I've just gotten a statement back from the NSW Police Force.

What does everyone think about that?

I cannot think of any offence being committed, and clearly the several NSWPF members who regularly watch my streams cant either as they sit back and enjoy them rather than prosecute.

If any NSWPF or serving emergency personnel would like to comment - anonymously, if you'd like - please get in touch. alex.walker@kotaku.com.au if you'd prefer email, or via messages here.

I asked what offences were being committed exactly and what laws were being cited, but haven't gotten a reply.

I love how the media is trying to portray us as hackers and possible cop-killers. I don't quite understand where their heads are at. Also the whole thing about us being the "GTA generation" with an 8% increase of violence related to the game.. give me a break.

Yep I am so sick of this violent video games means violent people. I have played video games for years and I have not gone out of my way to harm anyone. I do not see how this correlates together. I am still shocked to see how they even think LSPDFR is about killing cops or hatred to cops? It is the complete opposite, GTA allows you to kill cops not LSPDFR. The developers and mod authors have created this modification to turn the tides and allows people to play as the police. Yes you can arrest someone then shoot them in the head if you wish, that is not LSPDFR's fault, that is Rockstar for allowing that. Yet we as a community gets "targeted" for this.

I said before, I am just a person who enjoys what people create for LSPDFR. I am not a modder and I can only imagine what frustration they must feel for making their work feel like an act of so called "hate towards cops".

They very carefully edited footage to take things totally out of context and support their pre-determined view on the matter. They had zero interest in the truth, we just seemed like an easy target for some controversial headlines.
