What was that part about the police officer being run over in 2001? Reenacting Need for Speed? That's a load of bull, there's NEVER been pedestrians, yet alone police officers, that you can run over i

  • Holy crap what a joke of a report... The funny thing is I reckon most of the people who play LSPDFR are some of the more pro-police individuals who are probably more sympathetic to the troubles office

I'm sorry, did she say black market version of GTA?  HOW ARE THEY SO BADLY MISINFORMED?   Someone should explain to them what the black market actually is.  While they're doing this, also show them the differences between "hacker" and "modder".

I wouldn't worry about the media.  All they're trying to do is create controversial and trending stories.  They don't care what the truth is, they only care about their own agenda (which is getting lots of traffic and generating revenue).

It's amazing that those reporters looked through many videos, and must have seen the 'pro-police' attitude from most of YouTubers.  However, they picked out the worst possible clips of either glitches of accidentally punching partners or AI drivers running down players.

I'm not a lawyer, but I had a look on the website Lawstuff Australia and I found something that maybe useful for Darkmyre. There was a bit about privacy and one section says " If a large business takes a photo/video of you for a commercial purpose (like an advertisement) and you are identifiable in the photo/video they must get your permission to use or post the image online". Now I know Channel 7 is a tv channel, but i'm wondering whether they have broken privacy laws regards to showing Darkmyre's face without his permission.

Law suit?

If that's based on the Privacy Act 1988 (as Google suggests it is), it probably doesn't apply here. The Privacy Act 1988 applies to large businesses as well as government agencies, but it specifically excludes acts done by a media organization in the course of journalism. Journalism is governed by different privacy standards.

you Australian role players are in big trouble LOL

No one's in trouble, especially not the role players. If they go after anyone it'll be @MooseYTY, @Macgregor and myself, but as far as I'm aware, none of us have been contacted by anyone. They also wouldn't really be able to make a case against us in any civil or criminal court, so I think we're fine albeit a little pissed off we've been so grossly misrepresented.

Exactly.  No crime has been committed, and if they try to take it to court, the judge will laugh at them.  It's not a crime to play a video game, even if you don't agree with what goes on in said game.

Do you think it's inappropriate to have a game based around killing police officers?

This aggravates me quite a bit.  The game is NOT based around killing police officers, nor is LSPDFR.  I don't get it. People have been killing cops in GTA for YEARS, and now all of a sudden we want to use LSPDFR as a scape goat for our agenda.  This news outlet is truly a joke.

To be fair, yes, a majority of the time in the campaign you are killing cops, but that isn't your objective, it's a means to complete your objective.  If this was a game about killing cops, your only objective was to kill police officers, I could understand that. That is clearly not the case with GTA or LSPDFR.

Hmm, Channel 7 must not have heard of 'The Streisand Effect'.

To the Staff, has there been an upsurge in New Registrations over the last few Hours, or so?

There appears to be more "Guests" online than usual, that's for certain. Especially after the more recent kotaku article, where they actually linked the site and the mod:  http://kotaku.com/its-2017-lets-laugh-at-this-grand-theft-auto-news-stor-1792453598

Even crazier is the fact that the article has 94,000 views... jeez.
