It was fun for a few years and then it turned into, "Don't be fat excerise constantly and play the best thing ever invented... SPORTS!!" It get's even worse when you have a 60 year old gym teacher and your really bad at sports.

I always hated PE.   Physical education, more like public humiliation...

I always loved Gym. In fact, it was always one of my favorite classes. I enjoyed the competitive nature and I always had the coolest gym teachers that were really down to earth, friendly people. I lov

Only thing I liked about PE was the mile runs. I'm not a fan of sports, but I felt running the mile every Wednesday was something that you could go slow on if you wanted or try to get the fastest time without pressure.

The school I'm in has a thing called '5x60' for lunch time, the 5x60 clubs are saying they aren't getting enough people, because some people dont want to be kicked in the face by older kids...

I was expecting the No answer to charge out, considering everybody sits in front of their PC or Phone etc... to go on this place.

I loved PE for the fact that it wasn't a class involving numbers. However I hated the fact (in middle school) that there was gender segregation. The guys were made to play Football and nothing else, whereas the girls were bound to Soccer. (Football being the American variant, same as Soccer). For this reason alone I failed the class I just never attended and instead attended detention which, hey, again, whatever got me out of doing anything with numbers, we shouldn't be segregated into having to only participate in a single specific sport. I hated Football, but loved Soccer so I was shit out of luck.

That being said, in High School it got infinitely better. The School I attended had two huge Swimming Pools, one pool for Public swim session, the other for PE and other activities. Plus 4 main Gym's. Certain days you were confined to doing a certain task in a certain Gym, or alternatively the pool, other times you were free to choose whether or not you wanted to do swimming exercises or attend the Gym "lesson/task" of the day.

Come to think of it, High School for me at least, was infinitely better than Middle School for the most part.

That's the same shit I'm gonna have to endure for the next 5 years.
Also, my school seems to do P.E for the sole purpose of getting their team numbers up.
And then of course, segregation in the genders too, where one group does swimming and the other does rugby.

It's dumb, it is one of those things that really needs to be taken out. Some kids, male or female are better at some things than others. Plus, some kids just prefer one sport or activity over another, regardless of their proficiency in it. I sucked at Football, granted it was probably because I hated it, but nevertheless - on the other hand I was exceptionally good at Soccer. There needs to be a signup sheet at the beginning of the year, or before the actual PE class to determine what everyone wants to do.

I don't understand why the gender thing is a mandatory thing either, sports isn't a required "skill" in life. You can still be a regular healthy human being without having a sport either non specific, or specific in your life.

In the UK, 2 hours of P.E is mandatory a week, mhm, I spend more time than that walking to school through the week.

I hated PE at school too, was never a sporty kind of person. But I fucking loved rugby, and was quite fond of basketball. Anything else though I pretty much sucked at and would do everything in my power to get out of doing it. But I used to play for my local team during high school so when the Rugby season came in I would happily attend to PE. Rugby was the one thing I could do with a proud "fuck you I know what I'm doing" over all the other kids who were the sporty "i love football, football is best" kind and thus would treat you like shit if you couldn't play properly. Nothing will ever be a satisfying as being the quiet nerdy kid and running at one of those sporty kids full pelt and SLAMMING into them with your shoulder ensuring they have a really shit day at school.

I'm gonna be that guy though and say that some variety of Physical Education is mandatory as defined by the government. It's actually quite important to ensure children live a healthy lifestyle, and thus why they try to promote sports. While many will argue you can stay "healthy" without doing sports you are scientifically a little wrong. Lack of muscle usage or lack of any kind of exercise is actually not a good idea.

If a school made PE optional how would they get inspired to look after their body? "hey kids you should eat healthily and be active" pfft, yeah ok sir if you say so.
Instead it's "hey why not play football for an hour, teach them how to play the sport and what that's doing for them" The response? woo football no learning anything just messing about for an hour with mates :D

@Solidefiance Saying PE isn't a life skill is straight out wrong too. And without victimising you (this is just a general gripe) people who say "maths at school was useless, thanks for teaching me how to do algebra and not taxes" are also a fucking pain in my neck, that's the sort of argument made by someone who didn't pay attention in school.
PE teaches you about exercise, it teaches you about healthy lifestyles, your muscles and how to take care of them. As shit as it sound's we're not bomb proof. The human body is more fragile than your gran's collection of porcelain owls from the war, you should take care to look after it. It also promotes healthy growth (by making you do exercise), and given that you're at the prime of muscular growth at that age, I'd say it's pretty fucking important to keep that shit up even if you hate it.

Oh and not everyone walks to school.

TL;DR quit bitching, school is the best time of your life, man up and enjoy it. Sorry for the slight rant. Rugby :D

No, that's not what I was trying to say. I never meant that P.E isn't important or that it isn't a life skill. I meant that sports, the two I was specifically talking about  (Soccer or Football), is not a life skill, therefore it should not be mandatory in the sense that those two have gender segregation. They shouldn't be segregated to either gender, period. If a girl wants to play Football, she should be able to and vice versa. My old school, and from what I've seen and heard many others do it too, segregate the two genders and make the girls do Soccer and the guys do Football.

Ahh ok my mistake, I misread into your use of "sports" as a term.

And yeah we do the same over here, there may well be a reason behind why it's still done but I'm not sure as to what that is, but I'm fairly certain we fairly rotate gender neutral sports and such.

Slightly off-topic, but I have to say, I enjoy the working world 100x more than the "schooling world." High school was god awful, college was fun but also stressful at the same time. Now, I clock in at work, do my shit, then I clock out. Whatever time I have left is purely mine. I don't have to study, do any assignments, nothing. I can just relax after a hard day's work and on my days off, I can piss it away by watching "Law and Order: SVU" marathons on USA without having to worry about any exams or anything.

I'd have to agree with that. I don't know what it's like in America, or Europe for that matter but the majority of my day was filled with School, wake up at 5:30 in the morning, shower, shit and shave, eat breakfast, head off to school at 7:30 until 2:30. Then after that it's a boat load of homework and studying, only to be met with sleep to do it all over again the next day. Work, for the most part is a lot less stressful, plus I get paid and I don't have to come home to a nagging text book and a mother telling me to finish my homework. That and the majority of my co-workers are far more mature than those in School (although some of those co-workers seemingly never grown out of school immaturity). Guess it's just par for the course.
