The Final Countdown - LSPDFR Trailer 2

This. I like the release policy "done when it's done" rather than rockstars release policy "we set a date and hope it's done".

This is a nice way to think of it.

I apologise if my absence from this topic has been alarming, and I'm sorry that we don't have something for all of you to play yet.  To be completely honest, if we had decided to set a release date, unleash the hype train and please everyone that is asking/demanding/begging for one, we'd have had a lot of very, very disappointed people on Friday.

Unfortunately we run into problems and barriers quite regularly during development.  To give you a few examples, we had a serious performance issue that was discovered just yesterday resulting in the game running at 10 FPS during certain sequences.  This was a problem caused by LSPDFR and was of the severity that it actually crashed the performance analysis tool we use.  It took a few hours to resolve, and as with a lot of things in software development, the fix to issue caused more problems than it solved.  To put it into context, and this is actually what happened, I had to spend my entire night, from 11pm until 3am re-writing one of the most crucial AI systems in the project - our custom pursuit AI.  The fix to the first issue had broken the pursuit logic, and the result was that the internal timing for it was hideously broken - with things running too fast and too slow.  Too fast meant that cops were trying to do three things at once.  Too slow meant that cops were being left to their own devices for too long, and we all know what happens when you leave the LSPD to do their own thing (it involves a hail of bullets).  So, after rewriting this pretty important part of the project to use our new timing system, what appeared to just be one problem had turned into a lot more, and we had to fix them before we could do anything else.

This is why a release date will never be given.  When we wake up, we don't know what unforeseen problems are in store for us on that day.  All I can say is that it has been a little over a week since what I promised would be the final trailer.  The banner at the top still, in typical Sam fashion, still has the branding of a 'final countdown'.  If I didn't believe that, I wouldn't keep it up there.  I understand that people might be disappointed, but I suspect that this disappointment would be multiplied by a few billion if after the 'long' wait (a month and a bit), every time you tried to get into a chase in LSPDFR, your game ran at 10 FPS, and even if you could somehow cope with that, you had better hope you didn't encounter any backup units during that pursuit as if you did, you could forget about any notion of your suspect remaining alive for more than five seconds after.  This is just some of the stuff we have to deal with.  Let's try not to add the grief of a small number of people on here to that list.

Sam and his volunteer team have not failed to deliver what they promise. From the many LCPDFR releases they have always been dedicated to improving and stabilizing what I and many others consider a masterpiece in its own right. We have not ever been left with a "dead" or canceled mod like many other seemingly promising projects.

We all understand excitement. We all feel it. But we also have to understand we are not small children. It can be understandably tiring to hear the equivalent of "Are we there yet?" from passengers over and over when you are doing all the work. Our moderators are also waiting patiently for LSPDFR just like we are.

When LSPDFR arrives it will be great as proven by LCPDFR. This is Sam's house that he and his team built with their own hands and we should all respect it as such. Besides even Judge Dredd knows: Sam is the Law

We all have the right to be excited. The developers have shown us a lot to hype about. Granted, posts like "I'm getting annoyed with the waiting" are not right, but don't go yelling at people who are just excited

There are already people that have replaced the map man.  So saying its impossible is just wrong.  :x. Just google it lol.

I meant change or add stuff in the map, not replace it with textures that were already made. Like a new island or something. And I never said it was impossible, so you know, try reading my posts correctly next time

Are you just refusing to search it? Here, let me google that for you.

Unless I'm not understanding and you mean literally add stuff to Los Santos, which is probably easier to do then that ^

Sam, this is great work you're all doing. Don't ever think us ungrateful for your sleepless nights and hour-long programming sessions. We all love you :3

You know all this speculation is kind of annoying. Like "what if this", or "it's probably because of this" and such. Gotta love the posts that say "it's done when it's done." Can't get any more polite than that! But all my thanks goes to R* and their stupid content updates no one likes. I don't care about a couple of new cars, paint jobs, and some guns I will probably only use like once. Since this update is going to be released, we wait till wednesday then some because they can't use the Rage plugin hook if it gets messed up by the update. People say it won't and that it's just a content update, but what does update mean...? Patches, bug fixes, and new content.

I by all means am not mad at you or disappointed. Shit happens! Let's make a working mod, not a broken one when released. That's your goal and I love it.

An update doesn't always have patches. I would repeat myself of how this update will work, but I've done that about 5 times now so just look back a page

P.S. Accidentally double posted, sorry about that :P

I think everyone is getting their hopes up and expecting far too much from the first release.

Either way I can't wait, but I'm not expecting a whole bunch from the first iteration.

I was quoting you in my message when you stated that it updates /update/x64/dlcpacks or whatever. I know. But I also know that game when releasing those files, also include patches sometimes. I am trying to be realistic, not optimistic.

It's nice to hear progress of the mod wether it's good or bad... I feel like if you just post atleast once a day on some progress good and or bad it will calm the people

Yeah, agreed. You don't have to Sam, but it would be kind of nice.

I don't you understand, he wants to know if it's possible to add more mapping to the original, think, adding north yankton to the side of the original map without the need of being loaded.

That would definitely be easier than making an entirely new map. All you'd have to do is edit the map file and the navmeshes and all that! It's more possible than making an entirely new map, and an entirely new map has already been made, so yes.

Thank you for the progress you're addressing, at least now people will understand the problems you're encountering and people could maybe wait a bit longer.

My PROFILE

Hideously toxic? Not deserving of anything? I dont see see any posts in any way shape or form deeming us "Not deserving of anything" Just because people like to state their opinions and are a little upset and mislead by the 2nd trailer post about it "Coming Soon" or it being "The Final Countdown" that dosent make us toxic, Thats a very close minded opinion of people being disappointed because they are so excited for the release of this mod, dont get peoples passion confused with disrespect.

Because it's a mod with no release date. People are fighting with each other on here about it not being released, not providing enough info, etc.

Just an unbiased observation: it's mostly new people here, that are causing it. Draw your own conclusions from that.

I meant something like a new island, not replacing textures

What I showed wasn't just replacing textures, it was a whole different map.

Guys, I decided to re-download gta iv and try out lcpdfr 1.1. I suggest you do the same if you are waiting too unless you don't have GTA IV.
