The officer shot a man as he ran away, supposedly as the man took his taser.  What do you think?   I didn't see a topic on here and I figured this was a place it should be posted!

A lot of the media is playing it off as race involved- personally I don't see it that way, but who knows.

Any commentary/updates?

"A white south Carolina police officer has been charged with murder"

Sigh, why does the media have to always make this about race?

Other than that, this shooting is not justified, the man should be sent to jail as such.

At first I was on the the victims side. But after watching the video more and more, it looks like the cop was tased by the guy. Right as he runs away, it looks like the taser prongs were in the officer's arm. http://gyazo.com/abbed444d5f0632cb3ab148365b98f1b

But idk, maybe not murder. Manslaughter seems more likely

Even still, the officer wasn't immobilized by the taser shot. If he had dropped to the floor and had Scott started beating on him or whatever, then by all means he's clear to waste the guy with his service weapon. But as this didn't happen I really don't see the need to lay lead into the guys back as he runs off.

That's not surprising, that's the thing that really bugs me.

Obviously, the officer didn't want to run so he pulled an LCPDFR.

Anyways I don't see it as justified he should face manslaughter charges at most but whatever.

Absolutely true, but if Scott still had the taser in his hands, who knows if the taser would've failed again. All he had to do was pull the trigger and the next 5 second charge could disable the officer. Or it could've done nothing.

The shooting was not justified, though I don't consider this a tragedy. A criminal off the street in any means necessary is always a good thing. The officer should face disciplinary action, but I'm not in mourning over the shooting. Life moves on.

The "criminal" was pulled over for a broken tail light. So shooting that man is justified? He is a criminal for having a damaged car? You really should consider reading up on things first before making statements like that.

Nobody deserves to be just shot for something. It is called civilization. We put criminals in jail, not just kill them.

And that man clearly was no criminal. There is evidence in the video that the police officer put the taser beside the man after shooting him. It is absolutely justified to charge him for murder.

Heh, this time Russian law would have protected the cop. Here it is legal to use a weapon to stop a fleeing criminal, who have committed a serious offense (if he really attacked the cop with a taser, it is  a serious offence here).

I remember the French Connection movie, the first one. When Popeye shoots the fleeing guy in  the back. I read that a cop who was consulting the filmmakers said that shooting a perp in the back is plain murder, and IRL Popeye would be guilty of it. I side with all the reasonable people here: this one was not justified, at least according to what we know.

Anyway, just read those lines:

Police officers in the US fatally shoot and kill hundreds of people each year, but only a handful of cases result in the officer facing criminal charges.

Yep, massacre people during lunchbreaks. Oh journalism oh my.

I agree that journalists went to far with that line. Still: In every european country, most of these officers, fatally shooting a suspect, would be convicted of at least manslaughter. There are very few cases where you can legally fire your gun at somebody.

The amount of shootings in the US and the amount of weapon use in the US is just far too high. I know, there are a lot more guns around, still the case in Ferguson would definitely end up in court over here. Definitely not justified to use a gun and fatally shoot a suspect, there have to be other methods to defend yourself.

I can see that you're angry. I'll just report you and let the mods deal with it. Good day!

He ran from law enforcement. It doesn't take a genius to understand that fleeing from the Police is illegal. He broke the law, and that's one less criminal on the streets. You should really start thinking before you make ludicrous claims as you just did. It's amazing how an act of Police brutality against a criminal gives people this retarded idea that the criminal deserves to be mourned and idolized. Go tell the guy you feel for him, I'm sure he'll appreciate it. A bad job by law enforcement is never something to be idolized, but a criminal off the street is always something to be happy about.

So you would shoot someone in the back 8 times if they started to run from you?

So somebody with a broken taillight who's running from the police deserves death? Oh boy ...

That's not a "criminal off the streets", that is just plain murder. You deserve a fine for that, but not being shot in the back. If you support brutality like that, you can't be taken seriously.
