A very hard decision for the BBC to make. He is an essential member of the BBC family, but clocking people in the face can't just be ignored.

This isn't even his first incident. Back in 2004, he punched Piers Morgan in the face after an altercation at the British Press Awards.

Although he is a great talent, the BBC made the right decision, just because you're rich and everybody loves you doesn't mean you can go hitting production crews in the face, or anyone for that matter. People will just have to get over it.

except Piers Morgan is a dick.  As May said, this is a matter that was blown into something much bigger than it should have been. Yes he should have been reprimanded and punished, but it was overkill to fire him and basically punish the Top Gear fans instead.

The BBC have dug their own grave with this one. Yes, dire actions have dire consequences, but nobody is going to replace Clarkson. Look at Two and a Half Men, that show became rubbish when Kutcher took over.

Jeremy and Richard Hammond appear to have left the BBC as well. All three of them, as well as the boss of Top Gear have had a secret meeting according to the Daily Fail, so it's likely that Top Gear has officially come to an end under the BBC, and unfortunately the BBC will suffer, to me they had no choice.

I've been watching Top Gear for years, and I must admit my heart sunk a bit when I read the headline recently that he had been definitively sacked. He, along with Hammond and May, made that show something worth anxiously waiting for each and every week. I can't blame the BBC for taking the action they did, but they nonetheless nailed the coffin shut. They're still going to try to remake the show in 2016, and I hope they succeed, but unfortunately it will be incredibly difficult to find anyone who can make the show as entertaining as Clarkson. Living in the US, I was entirely in the dark about motoring life in the UK and the rest of Europe. Their adventures and car reviewing have been incredibly eye-opening at the very least and really got me interesting in European vehicles.

Although, I can also blame them for convincing me to save up for a new Audi and not some more "reasonable" vehicle.

My two cents:

Jeremy technically hasn't been "sacked". He was still employed until the 31st (yesterday), they just aren't renewing his contract. Is he likely to come back? No. One BBC high-ranker who didn't wish to be named said there is a possibility of letting him come back if he gets help for himself (rehab of some sort), but I find that unlikely. I also don't foresee James and Richard going on without Jeremy, as James said outside his home in front of some press members; he considers the group a "package" but who knows. Oddly enough, a ton of British websites reporting on it seem to want a woman presenter for some reason. Anyway, strict discipline needed to happen, but I don't know if firing him was the right course of action. If he was new at the job perhaps and wasn't such a key asset to the BBC, then I would have in a heart beat if I were in control at the BBC. Since Jeremy is who he is, I think the best course of action that's good for business and good for PR is to fine him an absurd amount of money. He makes a seven figure salary off of that show alone, so maybe fine him $500,000 and don't allow him to make any money from Top Gear Live events or any royalties, or maybe suspend his pay entirely for a year. Regardless of the outcome, I feel bad for Oisin Tymon, the producer who got punched. Jeremy acted like a diva. He likes to portray (jokingly sometimes) that the British people are more civilized and cultured, but he proved that to be a crock of ****. Humans are humans, regardless of where they're from. He acted like a million other celebrity idiots from Hollywood, and he got similar punishment. Public shaming and the loss of his job/income, for now. Maybe Netflix will pick him up. Sadly, he sold the rights to the Top Gear name and I.P. It actually belonged to him a couple of years ago, so had this happened sooner, he could have taken the entire show with him.

On a more lighthearted note; I wanted to post these because they're funny:

The funniest thing about these (in my opinion) is that they were up on the internet DAY OF. Literally on the day the fight was reported.

While we're on the subject, anyone else notice that without Top Gear to fill its off-peak schedule, BBC2 seems to be filled with endless repeats of antiques programs? a clandestine jab at Clarkson, perhaps?

On BBC America they've been pretty steady with their Top Gear episodes on Monday nights, so nothing seems out of place on this side of the pond. In the latest Top Gear news, Jeremy, James and Richard have all been removed from the Top Gear website banner according to some news articles, which the BBC said was normal since their contracts haven't been renewed. Word is James and Richard are refusing to renew. Only The Stig remains. Some BBC execs are also suggesting that the last two episodes of Top Gear will never been seen because the segments that go in between their normal "cheap car challenge" films or car review films haven't been shot, and the the other two presenters won't film the segments without Jeremy.

Also, I found this video clip a few days ago. The Last Ever Top Gear.

Hopefully the trio take to Netflix since they all no longer have contracts with the BBC. Netflix would accept the idea in a heartbeat being completely serious. They're a fantastic combination that everyone loves to watch.
